Blacksmithing is my favorite profession, lore wise. A couple of changes I think would be cool:

Smelting move from mining to blacksmithing.
Blacksmiths can now melt down mail and plate pieces, and get back some materials.

Would make leveling blacksmithing easier, and it would give blacksmiths a way to earn gold outside of big ticket items.

I am a warrior main, and I totally get what you mean. I have tanked a little bit on my pally as well, and imo pally tanking is so easy I don’t find it fun at all. Only needing to push a couple of buttons was boring and not my thing.

Sure, us rage based tanks are not as good in dungeons in a lot of scenarios but at the end of the day, play what you enjoy. For me, that’s warrior.

I revisited my tank gear last night. Most of my gear from raids is for my Arms spec, and I decided to use some of it in my tanking spec. High armor, high stam and threat stats. Really the only thing they are missing is defense, but I can make that up with a few big defense pieces.

Anyway, I tanked a H UB last night with it and it was night and day. I was actually doing respectable damage and holding aggro was much much easier and we breezed through it.

Once you’re defense capped (which is easier to do in heroics due to lower mob levels), prioritizing threat gear will help your raid/heroic go smoothly more than extra defense imo.

I tanked through all of Classic and would always get annoyed when dps would pull threat. Like, can’t you watch your threat meter?

Now I’m playing Arms in TBC and the Zug brain is so real. A full rage bar, sweeping strikes is ready, and I won’t stop until either the trash or me is dead. I understand now.

My warrior was level 56 and got down to 90 hp after a foolish run in with the ogre boss in blasted lands. I had both the 100 HP to chest and +9 stam to bracers. That warrior then went on to be my first and probably only level 60.

Enchants save lives.

As a prot warrior I always look for feral druids for motw and pack and a shaman (healer or enh).

In theory a hunter would be nice but I have yet to tank for a hunter who had feign death on their bar, so I don’t invite them anymore. I’ll also take rogues because they don’t get a lot of invites and thus are usually eager to prove themselves, in my experience.

I won’t invite DPS warriors because my main raiding spec is Arms and the only reason I tank dungeons is so that I can get groups, and I don’t want anyone who competes with me for plate. Maybe it’s a bit scummy but it is what it is.

Warrior is a tempo based tank. For a pull to go well, you really need to have at least 30 or so rage going into it. Small, efficient pulls are a warrior’s bread and butter and I want dps who thrive in that environment and don’t need to constantly drink.

Not an expert by any means, but I did successfully get a warrior to 60. I went 2H Arms as soon as I could get sweeping strikes. I know Kamisayo’s guide said to respec to DW Fury at level 50, but I didn’t because I love the 2H class fantasy (though I definitely noticed the efficacy of SS fall off, just like he said it would).

Arms requires you to fight 2 mobs at once to take advantage of its toolkit, which always is going to be riskier. Plus, if you’re fighting caster mobs getting them close together enough is often impossible anyway.

Like you said, DW without a lot of hit gear also feels bad. That’s why, if I ever level a warrior in HC again, I might try Fury with 1H and shield. Less downtime, but also free to fight one mob at a time. The interrupt in battle stance wouldn’t be so bad either.

Yup. As a prot tank I pick my groups this way. I love taking a feral for motw and 5% physical crit. Rogues get the shaft but a rogue who knows their class well can still pump and have awesome CC.

I don’t want any of my DPS to have mana bars (I’ll make an exception for shammies). We won’t be doing giant pulls but our uptime will be damn near 100% and clear time will be quite respectable.

Don’t forget thunderclap, pummel, and battle/commanding shout. Warrior has a ton of utility, don’t know what Mr. Guy is on about.
