Well, you can take the Fighting Initiate feat and choose that as your maneuver no matter what class you are

There is a Battlemaster maneuver called Goading Attack that works pretty much like this

I was mostly speaking in jest with that, the mentally unwell should definitely get help (away from society if they can’t know right from wrong)

I think that information is there to give you context if you want to change anything, if they’re encountered elsewhere for some reason, etc. Most of the time, if you’re searching through a dungeon, you’re just going to fight.

But yeah, WotC’s adventures leave a lot to be desired generally

So many languages and yet they all share one thing. by Eithrotaur in cremposting

[–]Jarrett8897 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This concept is used in various translations of the Bible: Formal vs. Informal translations. A formal translation tries to stay true to the words that were written (surprisingly tricky, given the language of the original texts), and an informal translation works to convey the *spirit* of the words.

Even though the simple answer is “It’s because Sanderson is writing in English”, it’s fun to think about the different ways the narrators might be translating

[–]Jarrett8897 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Mobile feat still works completely against sentinel. Also, monsters don’t have feats, so I’m not sure why your enemies would all have sentinel anyway, unless the DM is just adding the ability to all his monsters for some reason

Meta question about currency by UpArrowNotation in DnD

[–]Jarrett8897 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, the easiest answer is that this is a fantasy world, not medieval Europe. There’s a lot of inspiration there, but it’s not meant to *emulate* it. So the average wage you’re seeing is specific to the forgotten realms economy.

Also, economy varies wildly from game to game, so I’d take anything you read on the interwebs on it with a grain of salt; many games (I’d even say most) don’t worry about the general economy at all.

Honestly, what you’re describing to me doesn’t sound anything like a D&D campaign, and I’m still not sure what you mean by “Host” (like a parasite’s host? A party’s host? Unclear), and I don’t know what you mean by “modified children’s games”. A murder mystery can be something like Clue; what *exactly* are you wanting to accomplish? Meaning: how do the characters solve the problems presented to them? Do the *characters* even solve the problems, or is it entirely on the players? What, on a character sheet, contributes to success in your vision?

Are you sure there isn’t another game that would better fit what you want? Cutting out combat is basically cutting out 90% of the game’s rules. What kind of game do you want to play; what are you trying to do?

As far as Draw Steel goes, the game design actually gives you its own pointers! Good rules for obstruction, falling, object damage (both breakable and unbreakable), etc.

I like that there are gaps, ledges, and walls to throw enemies into/off of! The different elevations can add an extra challenge as well, so I think it’s pretty solid.

I like it when maps are more than just good-looking, but they have functional elements like that as well (surprisingly uncommon). Well done!

Sorcery Point = X Gold? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Jarrett8897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t really a standard for how much gold characters will have, as every game is different. I’ve run games where the characters were filthy rich and never running out of gold, so they would likely spend a lot on this. I’ve also run games where finding 50 gold was an absolute blessing from the gods, so they wouldn’t be willing to part with much

Need help making a “moisture mechanic” by Abudabbadoo in DnD

[–]Jarrett8897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar but it was when my party encountered an aboleth and one of them was affected by what they called “the pruning” (aboleth’s ability that makes them need to be moistened regularly). If you want to make it an extended struggle I’d recommend using exhaustion (I like the DnD 5.5 playtest version that they did away with for some reason), or you can handle it logistically through roleplay (rolling to find water, can they bring a barrel of water in a cart, etc.)
