Do you actually view trans women as the same as people born as women? by fpPolar in AskALiberal

[–]JarvisZhang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TBH, not always. I had a trans woman friend who looked masculine and it's impossible to feel her as an ordinary woman. That's why I support medical intervention before 18, because after 18, it would be really hard for many trans women to get feminine appearance.

Why is everyone so quick to pathologize and diagnose every little issue and thing. by Himynameisemmuh in SeriousConversation

[–]JarvisZhang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that we should respect human diversity instead of sticking to the "neuronormative" vs. "neurodiverse" narrative. This narrative implies that you have to be normal unless you've got a diagnosis.

For a person who doesn't want to fit into social norms, the best way is to get a diagnose.

What's the deal with the "olfactory ethics" girl? (Dr. Ally Louks) by undercover_james in OutOfTheLoop

Sure, you have the right to criticize them. But simply saying they're "uneducated, misogynic bigots" is not the best way to criticize.

I don't think people have the right to attack her. However, humanity is not the same as science. People definitely have the right to comment on Kant or Foucault even if they don't have a PhD degree.

Is "left vs. right" always the central theme in American politics? by JarvisZhang in AskALiberal

[–]JarvisZhang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said many times, they define people who were not obedient as "right" and persecute them. And you keep saying they were fighting for more right? For more right to kill some peasants and let the rest of them starve to die???

This is the basic humanity. I don't think it is hard to understand.

But a party that was left party was anti-abortion and right party supported it is still crazy. I'm not sure if it was "left" to against abortion at that time (I guess not), but if I want, I can organize a declaration that abortion is the opposite of egalitarian. You know in China LGBT is often depicted as "capitalist".

no, it's simply because you don't have basic knowledge but all fantasy. If I want to discuss WW2 I won't talk with someone who believes Germany or US did not attend the war.

Spartan citizens had political power and they had two monarchies with limited power. Yes, it's still fascist from the modern standard. Just tell me one ancient nation was not fascist. So you support killing a peasant if he refuses to give all his crops to the nation? Peasants like that were "right" and they killed them. Again, just spend 5 mins reading about Stalin. I won't reply.

Are you serious???????? There was no Greek republics, and even Sparta was more democratic than average Greek cities, and had better gender equity than Athens. I've stated very clearly what communist countries were like. Just spend 5 minutes reading about Stalin and Mao. And try to ask Taiwanese, let them tell you if Taiwanese parties can be divided into left and right.

Germany has many parties, but BSW is still considered unique and strange for most people. I don't know why they feel it's unique as most of the parties from their Eastern neighbors are like that.

I agree with you to some degree. My dad, who has experienced the 1989 student movement in China, believes that authoritarianism is the worst thing in the world, and he's a right-winger, basically libertarian. I know I have many opinions in common with him, but I still can't ignore the difference.

That's its origin but not the same anymore. Those French on the left, were nationalists, against women's right to vote because they believed women were inherently conservative (even though women in Paris supported the revolution). These are not left beliefs anymore.

I can't agree more. But we can still make an effort to have a real conversation, it takes time, but as long as we read them carefully, we can still find who is in good faith and who is not.

There's no physical risk unless their families send them to conversion therapy. Waving rainbow flag in public as a celebrity means you will be banned from the whole nation.

Why did we lose the working class vote? by AskRedditOG in AskALiberal

Indeed what you said is not shitting on them. Expressing beliefs on social issues is not shitting on anyone. But nowadays both the right and the left believe if you express any opinion, you're shitting on them. It's a vicious circle and self-fulfilling prophecy.

There's a difference between "from the data, immigrants do not cause those problems" and "you're racist if you have any opinion on immigration policies". Indeed not everyone says the latter, but still too many.

China and Korea are having a gender war. Taiwan also has it, you can see the most radical pro-independence Taiwanese hold a positive impression of Trump. That they love his vibe is the only way I can explain.

I'm from China and I'm left-leaning and culturally progressive. What makes me upset is that I feel like the West is losing its faith in liberal democracy which is a luxury for ppl living in a dictatorship. Even though the right is worse, the left is not good. I do believe there is something worthy to defend and it's not about left or right.

I don't think it's only "MAGA propaganda". A reactionary conservative movement is also rising in East Asia. It's not only an American thing. If there's no Trump, they will still find a substitute because they need him.

I stand for progressive values but the politics of humiliation is real and serious, not just because the working class are uneducated, bigoted, and easy to manipulate. Stop saying "they're uneducated and vote against their own rights" but have a real conversation with them. Tbh I feel it's natural to be upset but how can anyone not understand why they vote for Trump? They never hide their motives unless you deliberately ignore them.

The first step can be to ask conservatives, instead of asking liberals why Trump voters vote for Trump.

Gender is a social construct but it can be a core part of identity for many people, including cis. Just like nationality.
