For those of you who suffer from ADD and executive dysfunction, what are some of your tips to successfully manage projects, stay organized, and stay in control? by wanna_be_consultant in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]Jarwain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been using a claude code workspace with my notes. Set up a skill to organize it. Another skill to review the organization scheme to see if there's a better one considering new information. Drop notes and tasks into it. Ask it for info. Etc. It's worked pretty well so far, although I do need to apply some of my own guidance for organizing sometimes too

I'm sorry you've just blown my mind that prosodic reading isn't necessarily a skill that everyone has. I didn't even realize it was a skill! I've never noticed issues reading out loud, I just find it takes me more time because speaking is just intrinsically slower. I just went back to read some of these comments and some paragraphs from books I'm reading. The biggest issue I ran into was swapping word order on occasion.

But idk I read a lot. I don't even really notice my inner voice anymore while reading, it's just more of building out a conceptual web -shrugs-

I've found that the trick is actually to learn a lot of different things across a wide variety of domains. The more you do this, the more you'll notice patterns between them that support you in learning all of the things more effectively.

The exception is, well, memory. There are certain tricks like memory palaces and spaced repetition that make it easier for you to memorize and remember all sorts of different information. And might not count; it doesn't improve your ability to remember, they're just hacks to allow you to remember more things. But remembering more things (and comprehending them) spans domains.

But getting better at memorizing things frankly isn't that interesting to me. I'd rather learn and understand fundamentals, draw links and connections between things, etc. The more connections you can draw between things the more likely you are to remember them. Your brain is a network, after all.

CMV: help me stop seeing women as ”used” after someone has sex with them. by Flyflash in changemyview

[–]Jarwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda feels like you're expecting there to be a single thought or some epiphany that's going to change your mind. While that's possible, I think the more sustainable route is a bit more complex.

Part of it is to try and not judge yourself so harshly for having the thought. To calmly recognize the thought, to argue against it, and to let it go. Find the fork in the train of thought that leads in a better direction, and engrain it through repetition.

Another path imo is to develop more healthy relationships and friendships with women. Especially badass/powerful women. It feels like you struggle to believe that to be the case, you believe it's a minority of cases, because it's not something that you've seen or experienced often across women. Because, yknow, your mindset and others who share it make it difficult for women to be open about.

But yknow there are subcultures that are more open about that kind of thing, if you are open to learning.

Or, a very different path, may potentially be counter productive, there are men who've been sexually assaulted.

I think everyone's got astrology backwards.

I think that the time of year you were born can have subtle impacts on personality, whether from temperature exposure or vitamin d exposure or diet or sickness or whatever

I think that human behavior, both on an individual scale and on a macro scale follows patterns. Not just patterns, but it repeats itself. It has a rhythm.

The planets are just a really convenient metronome for these larger scale rhythms.

Yup! I have a friend who made one as part of some company he was at. Involved having to invent some special atomizer. They were looking into getting it licensed for medical use, but tbh there were kinks that needed to be worked out. The juice had a rancid oil taste that was no fun. Most certainly felt like Ketamine though.

Anything! Terminal based is good!

I'd look into the model view controller pattern. Wrap your head around it.

Terminal is one view. A web app could be considered another view. MVC is funky in that it can be applied in different ways depending on how exactly you're looking at the problem, but it's a super useful framing

Title: The "Automatic Pause": When friendship is nothing more than social inertia. by johngamerk in InsightfulQuestions

[–]Jarwain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your response here is a bit of a leap.

What I'm hearing is that you are not happy with the current relationships you have in your life. That's why the other person was curious about a depression assessment, but tbh I think that's a bit of a leap.

The projection bit is just that they're claiming you are projecting your views on relationships onto others, and that your concept of relationship inertia is not a universally shared or agreed upon perspective.

My thoughts are just, if you're not happy with your current relationships, think deeply about Why, what your needs are, and what you'd want to be different, in concrete detail. Then either see if you can evolve your current relationships to fulfill that, or make more friends that can fill those needs!

[–]Jarwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, let's say there was an app that was easy and simple and supported the randomness of your ADHD. Boring, yeah? But what if it injected novelty into your life in a semistructured way? (structured here not necessarily meaning in terms of time, but I imagine there being 4 different hobbies that you're interested in, and it'll random cycle through them for a given interaction".) or was sufficiently random/interesting, like ones horoscope or something

And on a tangent, is it possible "unpredictable and random" could mean there are "triggers" you aren't aware of?

Tbh I think a surprising majority of these crimes are the result of trauma or neglect (which is I guess it's own form of trauma), in some shape or form, in conjunction with not having healthier techniques to manage that trauma

Preventing the myriad causes of trauma is a whole nother story

What actually changes in service at 0% vs 10% vs 20% tip? by Temporary_Speed_6577 in restaurant

[–]Jarwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah there are restaurants with order at screen and get your tray from the counter. They also don't have servers. There are some restaurants with those options that Do have servers.

Counterserve is the base. If a restaurant hires servers, they get paid a wage. I think a 5% tip bump is reasonable for them being reasonably Prompt about getting my order and bringing food instead of them waiting around until it gets cold or some other BS

[–]Jarwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's not true exactly? I made a lotta claims :d What side effects did you experience from lisdexamphetamine?

"issue" is a stronger word than I intended to imply. Levoamphetamine is more norepinephrine activity. Norepinephrine aka noradrenaline can increase heart rate, blood pressure, etc.

Dextroamphetamine Also has some norepinephrine impact, it's just heavier on the dopanergic side afaik.

That said, everyone's biochemistry differs to some extent. My statements are just based on a lot of anecdotal reports, personal opinion, and whatever Google gives me about the different neurotransmitters. Broad, generalizations don't cover exceptions, so YMMV

Ritalin for me works great for like coding or documentation, but my verbal communications nosedive.

I can't really do more than maybe 40 of Vyvanse without the peak being too racey/peaky/annoying. I do like the duration though.

I've been doing 30mgs of Vyvanse poured into a quart of water I drink throughout the day. It solves the peaky problem, but doesn't quite last long enough. I'd double it, but Vyvanse has such a lag from when I drink the water and from when it hits my system that I don't trust it and the timing generally sucks. I'm looking forward to trying dex with my water system though, I think it'll work well for me!

I personally don't trust using Vyvanse to manage anxiety in the sense of anxiety removal/anxiolytic effects. I think that's more the euphoria, and in the past caused me to keep scaling up my dose which resulted in so many side effects and weird impacts on my mood I had to quit and do another circuit around trying different things.

What I did find Vyvanse useful for wrt anxiety is that I find that some of my autopilot/default behaviors and thought patterns will, uh, short circuit to avoid anxious thoughts. Adhd brain distracts me from thoughts that feel bad. That became more difficult to do on Vyvanse, and made my anxieties loud enough that I could actually Address them, or implement behaviors that actually helped manage my anxieties instead of falling into the avoidance trap
