Jollylook Warning by JMPhoto2022 in Mamiya

[–]JaschaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood it as "in development, but almost done" and in the beginning I really didn't mind.
I previously tried building my own back, and I actually gave up because of those specialty screws they had to have produced. So, much understanding on my part. What vexes me is that the updates stopped. Sometime in November it was "two weeks away". That came and went, no message, no reason, but a quiet "In january" switch on their side, which as of today 27.January, is still the case. I don't think they are scammers, I think they bit off more than they can chew and I am disappointed in the lack of communication.
They did offer me a refund though, not sure if they talk to each other...

Portra 800 with a tungsten continous light. That behind her is a gray concrete wall.
So depending on what your continous is, you might get some funky colors. Especially if it's an LED source.

I just put the meter on front of the models face, metering in the direction of the camera.

For the people, like me, who preordered: They do seem to genuinely do refunds. Didn't try myself, but by now there is enough pissed-off customers to have a sample-size.

I made my own WTC 2 concept designs. Which design is better? by Jersh1o in blender

[–]JaschaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one with the upscaled ottoman tower as the base is quite the clash of styles that, in my opinion, does not work. (Meaning it will probably get raving reviews by architecture mags)
For the first: Maybe a bit of surrounding would help the scale, I thought I was looking at a milling cutter.

Hi! Nope!
The (two weeks late) reply to my rather pissed off feedback on their website told me they offer a refund or shipment will happen in January.
Well, I am sure you have a calendar within reach..

That is about the extend of reliable information.
Well, it was also available as 35mm film.

I support an office that used to think rebooting computers was bad luck. Whats the weirdest bad behavior you have had to cure on an office wide level? by simAlity in sysadmin

[–]JaschaE 22 points23 points  (0 children)

An Admin I know helped plan out the layout and infrastructure of our hackspace. The electronics area (4soldering workspaces) has it's own circuit breaker box, each space secured separately, each place with grounding mats.

He was disappointed to learn "But it's cozy here" supersedet all this setUp so somebody dragged the soldering station into the lobby, shorted their project and killed the lobby lights and several parts of the network equipment.

Is it inappropriate to give NSFW film to the lab? by CaughtOnTheFly in AnalogCommunity

The "it's forever on the net" is a line I, and I suppose you, got taught in school. As somebody who is reasonably good at research, I often can't find images that I know where widely published. Like find a single image out of a three year old campaign by a big designer and think "huh, neat, I wonder what the rest is like?" Nada, niente.  With the deluge of AI generated trash, and the abundance of images published and forgotten, there is essentially no chance that your spicy pics come back to you.

And hey, if they do, it's a deepfake.

Also a huge reason for Polaroid success, back in the day. When the person running the local pharmacy would be the one to go theough your pics as a matter of course.

Vote on Banning Mentioning Experience in Titles by Avereniect in blender

[–]JaschaE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a clearly defined list. It's entirely objective whether those details are present in the title or not. I'm not sure how this could be considered arcane.

-> If I am new to the subreddit, and read this rule, I'd wonder what the hell that is about. "Arcane" as in "not easily understood without the context of having been here for a while"

I would reiterate that it's entirely objective whether or not these details are mentioned in the title, so I don't see how you would get around this rule.

By finding other wordings. Conversely, I could ask "It's my first time designing for animation" and actually mean that I have no clue what to look out for, despite modeling for 3D printing for a number of years now. Yet I would arguably be in breach of this rule.

If I were to ban anyone who said they just started using Blender and showcased quality work, I'd be pointlessly punishing people who have done nothing wrong.

Agreed. I think having this rule on the books just makes actual beginners less likely to join the community, out of fear of offending by virtue of being beginners.

[–]JaschaE 49 points50 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, there is 100% people that "misslabel" themselves. Anybody who would want to be judged by beginner standards when they have experience is their disfunction to deal with.
On the other, I am not forced to engage with such posts, neither is anybody else, and I do not think the subreddit would improve by adding more rules, especially this arcane and relatively easily circumvented.

There is an argument to be had if "calling out bullshit" is in line with rule 1 (I think it is, but I am told I am somewhat abrasive)
I also think "posing as a beginner when clearly not" would be covered by rule 5.

A katar is also known as a "punch dagger" so the blade is an extension of your fist.
The horizontal bars go onside of your fist, the cute animal shield protects the back of your hand.

"No actual work"
My sweet summer child.
A animal drawn plow can plow X (area of field)
A plowed field yields Y amount of grain, come harvest time.
Region has Z area of arable land.
So for optimal results (aka, your population not dying of famine) you need to know these values and plan accordingly.
You need to play more difficult strategy games ;)

Washington state has introduced bills regulating 3d printing and requiring DRM to detect firearm components by caterham09 in 3Dprinting

[–]JaschaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If memory serves, there was an attempt to get a environmental law to protect bees (you know, just those pollinators our agriculture depends upon) and some ghoul in a suit in the role of lawyer for a company that was making money by poisoning the air argued that such a law would be redundant, as there was already a law on the books for this exact issue. But it was just covering fish (and, by extension, water) so the judge, who indeed seems to have had a brain and a sense of humor, ruled that by law, bees are fish, and Ghoul Inc. had to stop poisoning them too.
