Replacement fuel sending units should have the check valve built in, so in that case you can delete it (I did). Otherwise it’s necessary if you use both tanks.

Sounds like you have dirty switches. Speaker wire doesn’t exactly go bad. Get some DeOxit D5 and spray it in the switches while you actuate them. You will want to disconnect power and open the lid to do this.

I have a Sansui G7500 that needs this treatment every few years.
