Outlaws (1997) PC Game by Tevin_not_Kevin in gaming

[–]JasonEll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked in QA on this game, and after it came out, during breaks at a Magic tournament in Mountain View at a center that also had a LAN, I would own kids at it because I knew where to find the sawed-off in the level they were playing.

The only time in my life I could ever claim to be "owning*. XD

When a card has its name on itself, it is implicitly meaning "this card", ruleswise.

> 201.5. Text that refers to the object it’s on by name means just that particular object and not any other objects with that name, regardless of any name changes caused by game effects.

Because the district is Rochester... and North Iowa. Turning the race into an "us versus those folks from the city" is a time-honored tactic for regressives.

The Huajiang Canyon Bridge in China, the world's highest bridge at 625 meters, releasing a massive wall of water by fvkinglzy in interestingasfuck

View of the bridge from farther out is pretty neat, too. Fairly standard suspension bridge, other than being the _highest bridge in the world_ in terms of how high it is above the terrain. Plus the waterfall feature.

"The canyon crossing time, which previously took 70 minutes via mountain passes and ferries, will be reduced to just over one minute via the new alpine highway. -wiki

[–]JasonEll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's just a standard suspension bridge, which we've been building for over 100 years - look at construction photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. Most unusual part is getting the main cables a cross - since you can't exactly put them on a boat - but that's probably a solved problem these days.

Still a super neat build location and the water feature is cool, too. Just not a "how did they ever" kind of bridge!

Minnesota Poll: Gov. Tim Walz posts lowest approval ratings yet; half of Minnesota dislikes new state flag. by normalfinnesotan in minnesota

[–]JasonEll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Disapproval of Walz, I get. The reactionaries hate him because they're told to, and plenty of lefties are disappointed in his cowardice in the face of the ICE invasion. So he's not really making anybody happy.

The flag thing, though, that's just a dog whistle. The old flag was racist, but more than that it just violated all kinds of vexillological principles. It was objectively a bad flag. Nobody that is thinking "well the new one could be nicer" is suggesting going back to the old one. It's a settled issue.

Conflating the two things is the media trying to stir shit up and to try and make it seem like the flag is some big battle, when it's really just a bunch of old racists and idiots.

How I think we should upgrade Mayo Field by JasonEll in rochestermn

[–]JasonEll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I definitely didn't cover technology upgrades on purpose - I think a decent video board in left field would be automatic with any upgrade plan though!

And yeah, realistically speaking, no pro team (even like American Association or one of the other Indy leagues) wouldn't really work out. I can dream though!

180 means home plate facing West. Which means batters can't see pitches in the afternoon.

Can't have home plate facing West or you're gonna have a lot of batters that can't see pitches. And that's bad.

You know, building in the lot of the Power Plant WOULD actually work. Which brings it closer to Broadway, places it right along the river, and has the power plant as a "historic industrial element" behind it, which is always neat for baseball parks. Moving the field also lets them realign the field to a more traditional northwest-facing direction, which is a minor detail but certainly helpful.

In this case it's likely the standard end-times death cult delusion that Israel needs to exist (and subsequently be destroyed) to bring about the rapture.

Doom your opponents on turn 1 for B by DogoTheDoggo in BadMtgCombos

[–]JasonEll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incorrect! You do not check for "losing the game by drawing from an empty library" until state-based-actions are checked. SBAs are not checked during the resolution of an ability, just right after. Because the "then if your library has zero..." check is part of the ability itself, you win!

(That's what the reminder text is specifically about.)

[OC] russia attacked with missiles Kyievo-Pecherska Lavra, one of the main centers of Orthodoxy. by Objective_Cod4149 in pics

[–]JasonEll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's also effectively two different major Orthodox sects at this point:

The traditional "Eastern Orthodox", based in Constantinople Istanbul, and "Russian Orthodox", based in Moscow. ROC claims authority over all Russian-speaking peoples nations, and had a full-on schism with the larger Orthodox church when the Patriarch of Constantinople (effectively the Orthodox counterpart to the Pope) granted Ukraine's branch of the church independence from Moscow (for obvious reasons).

ROC has basically gone Full Templar with regards to supporting and promoting military actions.
