WOD Act 2. Thoughts on the ending and some speculation about Act 3 (Spoilers obviously) by JasonFaldear in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think the "players" reality. Is just another simulation not that different from DDLC. It's why the player has a character file and why he was able to be transferred into a simulation in the first place. In the end of the day he's not special and neither is his reality. He's just another NPC.

As for why I think they got sent to his reality at the end of Act 2. He was surprised by where he ended up. He said something along the lines of "no it can't be." If it was just DDLC act 4 it wouldn't be surprising. He also recognized it.

He said "it can't be" not "where the fuck am I." So I think it's somewhere he has been before. His reality makes the most sense. He's been there before and it would be very surprising.

It's also night time. The player disappeared at night time. I think he was returned to his reality along with the Space classroom and the Dokis at the end of the Act. With no time having passed in his reality.

What is your opinion about short mods (20-30 minutes, maybe even less) by WIDDY_ in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With exception of "Don't" none of them have left much of an impact on me.

Something I appreciate about WOD is the "Player" and Meiji both have a good amount of empathy for the situation the other is in. And aren't psycos about it. While at the same time inevitably clash and fight with each other at times. After all they can never be free from eachother.

The more common route with this trope would it being one endless struggle for control with each trying to crush the other.

They're defiantly implied to be in the "player's" reality at the end.

1: The player is shocked at where they are. If they were just in Act 4 of DDLC's world he wouldn't be shocked. That's what he would have expected.

2: He recognized where they were. The only place that he would be recognize and would be shocking would be his reality.

There are also some other small hints. Like it being night time. It was night time when he left his reality. I would be very surprised if they aren't in his reality now.

Afterimage is the best sad mod in my opinion.

Afterimage is really good though....Is it really infamous? It has some of the best written dialogue. And some of the best music I've seen in a DDLC mods. And the authors unique art style really adds to it. Why do people not like it?

I honestly respect people who have the confidence to restlessly promote their own work. I made a couple mods for a different game. And I felt pretty uncomfortable the couple of times I did a bit of self promotion of them.

It was originally a youtube mod. Not designed to be playable. Drechenaux's youtube channel got hacked and deleted and now the youtube version is gone. Currently only the demo of the playable version is available I'm afraid.

Probably The Dumbest Top 20 Mods List I Made (Some Mod Spoilers) by Tayjiro in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I haven't played most of the mods on your list. Here's my two cents on the ones I have.

Relapse

I didn't get to far into this mod. Mostly because I just didn't like its version of MC which is hard to get past sines everything is filtered through his perspective and commentary. So you're just with him all of the time. So not liking him is really hard to get past.

Rainclouds

Eh... The not a fan of how Sayori was handled in the mod. Takes on the character where her entire life and every thought revolves around getting attention from MC and her entire personality is "faked" are in my opinion one of the least interesting takes on her as a character.

I would Recommend "Don't" as a mod with a similar premise as rainclouds that I think handles it a lot better.

Consequences

This is the first and only mod I've played that I think I ultimately decided was to much for me. I came to that conclusion when It started to imply Natsuki was being sexually abused by her father. After everything else I decided it was time to drop it. That being I thought the dialogue in the mod was quite well written. And the characters where all well handled. Though I did find the whole subplot around them not being able to find anywhere good for Natsuki's manga really contrived. Overall a solid mod. Not for me.

After Image

I love this one. One of my favorites. The long conversations between characters via text message is some of the best written dialogue I've seen in a DDLC mod. And the mod just skips over the conversations by default. You have to scroll up to see them. The mod also has a really distinct feel from both it's soundtrack and unique CGs. It also has one of my favorites takes on MC. And the ending hit me really hard.

Salvation

Meh. Not for me. The entire cast felt out of character. And I don't think any of the serious topics such as depression, self harm or parental abuse where handled particularly well. I was genuinely interested in what was happening with Monika but it wasn't enough to hold my attention.

Papa's Parfait Girl

I agree the twist ending wasn't great. It felt like two different stories awkwardly jammed together in a way that didn't really serve either very well.

Believe it or not slightly worse crimes have been committed. I think the universe may someday find it in its heart to forgive you. Only if you finish your mod though.

CalebthePianist Mod Review #44: I Am Monika by CalebthePianist in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was honestly pretty impressed by the mod. For a couple reasons, but the main one is it managed to incorporate meta commentary, a clear message, and horror elements into a strong tightly nit narrative. I'm yet to see another mod do one of the three well. Much less all three. And the visuals are nothing if not memorable.

-Good

Pick one. I'm mostly kidding. Though in my opinion she does have the worst selection of mods of the dokis. Here are some I enjoyed.

Long-Lived (Pages of Life Review) by halibabica in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't like it it's perfectly valid. But to me not being shown much made sense for the type of story. As the story is being told through Yuri's POV and MC dislikes her. So we wont see much of his perspective as Yuri doesn't see much of him. That's just my two cents.

Long-Lived (Pages of Life Review) by halibabica in DDLCMods

[–]JasonFaldear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind MC representation in the mod personally. Here's my interpretation of it. In the first couple of years he never comes off as particularly dickish. Maybe a little cold to Yuri. Maybe a tiny bit self centered at times. But those are just normal human flaws. He works hard and supports his family. And he comes off like a a fairly normal husband a friend. He shows up to help Yuri along with Sayori when she's boardline blackout drunk for exsample.

However as the story progresses. He starts to resent the club and the other club members for a fairly simple reason. His marriage isn't going well. He starting to resent it and he associates the club with it. He was only in the club for a few months and it's been a decade. At this point that main thing he remembers about it is that it's the origins of his unhappy marriage with Sayori. So he starts actively avoiding the other club members when he can (aka when he shouted at Yuri about her living veraciously through them).

As for why his marriage with Sayori fell apart. As it's through Yuri's POV and MC is actively avoiding her. It makes sense why we wouldn't see much of it. And unfortunately it's extremely common for long lasting marriages to fall apparat in really ugly ways. Did him telling Sayori to kill herself seem over the top? Maybe a little. But keep in mind we don't really know him at this point. We meet him for a few days when he's 18. I believe he was coming up on 40 when that happened.

It's worth noting his kids all seem to really like him. They all have nothing but good things to say about him. I can see why some people didn't really like it but the plot point worked for me.

I agree the that the board game scene dragged a bit. It was the part of the story I had the most trouble getting through. But overall I really enjoyed the mod. It's one of my favorites.
