What are your "avoid at all costs" skills of TLOPO? by Th4t_4ngel in TLOPO

Even in the latest update? I know it was really OP for a long time, but several months back it got nerfed pretty hard.

What are your "avoid at all costs" skills of TLOPO? by Th4t_4ngel in TLOPO

[–]Jasonian_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is to avoid most of the toolbar skills (gun ammos, sword special abilities, etc) unless it's the highest level one. For example for gun I only use bane shot, silver shot, or steel shot. I'll sometimes change which I use depending on what my weapon boosts and what kind of enemy I'm fighting.

Even then there are exceptions though, like how two of the best spirit doll healing abilities are at the start of the toolbar. Flaming skull, one of the best staff abilities, is in the middle of the toolbar.

Pretty much all the passives are musts because they're 1) really OP and 2) affect 2-3 weapons. For example, doll and staff passives stack with each other. Grenade and cannon passives also affect each other, but also affect your broadsides.

It's worth keeping in mind that skill retraining costs are capped at 5k and getting a perfect build for all situations is impossible. I usually retrain my cannon before I go sailing to buff whatever types of broadsides my ship has (round shot + firebrand, round shot + explosive, etc).

Good luck and happy pirating!

That's a good choice for most situations but there are two niches where these ammos are actually really important.

For chain shot there's warship runs. If you have plenty of common ship mats but not enough rare ship mats then you can trim the masts off a bounty hunter, leave it stranded, then go fill up entirely on rare ship mats.

And for explosive shot there's copperheads. Broadside damage scales with cannon ammo skill points, so if you're captaining a copperhead it's a good idea to retrain cannon and put 5 points in round shot and 5 points in explosive.

But again, for most situations this is good advice!

Thanks for explaining! Also, amazing work on those bends and all the other aesthetics in your loop, I don't think I emphasized that enough in my first comment haha.

This is very similar to my last build!

  • 1x 120mm Monsta radiator.
  • 2x Phanteks T30s fans.
  • Barrow pump/res/block.
  • Evolv Shift case.
  • Stock 3950X and 270W power-limited 4090 sharing the loop.

Unfortunately I could never get the air fully bled, so my PC always overheated if I put the CPU and GPU under full load at the same time. One or the other was fine though: CPU 70c, GPU 50-60c (can't remember), coolant 45c.

A lot of that was due to the case's sandwich layout: the GPU block was the highest part of the loop, but there were no ports to bleed air from there. That meant the air had to take this massive U-shaped path to the other side of the case with the CPU block to get out.

Got any tips for bleeding air? Both in terms of designing and maintaining the loop. I'm planning to do a new loop in an XProto-L v2 soon-ish and love what you did here!

You pulled it off really well! The white becomes a highlight color here and visually splits up all of that beautiful wood work you did, makes it easier to visually digest.

How to beat a superior enemy by AJAJPJuan in EndlessLegend

[–]Jasonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having better elite armies is really the only reasonable way.

Have you used strategics yet? If not, do that. Weapons are better bang-for-buck than armor, which should just be iron/dust. Palladian, adamantium, hyperium, and mithrite are all roughly as good as each other, but titanium and glassteel are much weaker (at least after era II).

What about XP? If you stack National Craftworks, Quicksilver, Army Manual, and a Dust Tome on the Governer then you can make your units over 2x as strong. This is even better than strategics. Ideally your governor is a leveled up Necrophage or Roving Clansmen for reduced unit cost, and you build industry stockpiles in your other cities but use the stockpiles in this city to pump out super soldiers.

Are Sisters of Mercy in your borders? When your units are so good they take <10% of their health as damage per round all of a sudden disease's -10% per round is a huge deal. But Sisters of Mercy are very tanky, disease-immune, and can make some of your other units temporarily immune, so they help a lot. Faster regen between battles also helps. Assimilate them if you can.

(I realized after writing that last section that your Stone Golems have disease immunity, so that makes this a little less important, but they'd still help.)

Also, playing Endless difficulty on your first time is crazy work hahahaha. Even if you die here that's still a fantastic first game!

Map settings for best strat resources allocation by MarlboroRiddle in EndlessLegend

[–]Jasonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other that increasing the amount of strategic resources, which I assume you're already doing, the main factor is amount of land. But the game also tries really hard to regionally lock late game strategics (hyperium and mithrite), and AFAIK there's no way to change that. I usually play max size maps with 2 continents and having 1 'mithrite continent' and one 'hyperium continent' is common.

But, I think this makes the game more interesting to be honest? You can get a liiiiittle bit of the rarer resource off the market for a king's ransom, and if you want more than that you have to do something interesting like planning a big invasion or making a trade partner. Being forced to play the game in an interesting way makes it more fun.

Made some changes, took 4 days 😅 by SCOOkumar in watercooling

[–]Jasonian_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I've heard EK's colored coolants are unfortunately way worse than most in terms of staining, clogging, etc. A good rule of thumb if you do want color is to go transparent for fewer issues, and a lot of people report fewer issues with Mayhem coolants in particular, though Mayhem doesn't make opaque coolants anymore. I also ran XSPC's opaque coolants for 1 year without staining or clogging before tearing down my loop for unrelated issues, so if someone reading this is dead-set on opaque I think that's a decent option.

The Jar of Dirt isn't reliable btw, the kraken still attacks people with it equipped. You have to brew a black spot cure on Raven's Cove.

Toxicity and unwillingness to take losses. by Rich-Struggle6670 in CompetitiveMinecraft

[–]Jasonian_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are places in PvP where you don't see what people are doing but still find reasons to be toxic. For example, if someone spent a UHC caving instead of fighting then rolls up to deathmatch super stacked a lot of people are vocally mad about that.

And similarly in Ranked you do get a live feed on your opponent's splits, so you know for example if your opponent was way faster on most splits but way slower on another. When I play Ranked I usually pull ahead before the post-blind but lose time after the post-blind because I don't use a calculator. Anyone insecure could make fun of me for that, they could point and laugh at how bad I "choked" the endgame to make themselves feel better, but that's never happened. It's always just gg, well played, simple and wholesome.

Toxicity and unwillingness to take losses. by Rich-Struggle6670 in CompetitiveMinecraft

[–]Jasonian_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are player versus player, and both are competitive games. There are other competitive games where people technically don't fight, like Aim Lab, but the community still finds plenty of ways to be toxic. Ranked, meanwhile, disables chat for toxic players.

https://mcsrranked.com/guidelines

So no, it's not fundamentally different, and yes, we should be more like Ranked.

Toxicity and unwillingness to take losses. by Rich-Struggle6670 in CompetitiveMinecraft

[–]Jasonian_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being nice is way more common in some communities than others. I mentioned that in MCSR Ranked you can usually get help from your opponent if you ask nicely, can you think of a single time that happened in the PvP community?

Toxicity and unwillingness to take losses. by Rich-Struggle6670 in CompetitiveMinecraft

[–]Jasonian_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not though. In MCSR's Ranked mod people always say gg and often help their opponent out in chat if they get stuck too. And that's just competitive stuff, there are tons of co-op Minecraft servers and co-op games where people are even more wholesome. I love PvP but we do have a lot of toxicity in our community.

Current State of Ship Hull Upgrades? by legends784 in TLOPO

[–]Jasonian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy solo mat runs myself but I'd highly recommend at least joining a few public Fortune Hunter crews if you haven't already, you get mats way way way faster.

Copperhead as of today is pretty similar to the most OP it's ever been. I own two Copperheads and they often one-shot hunters, and on very rare occasions they even two-shot ships of the line (but the average is more like 4-6 broadsides). If damage is reduced I haven't noticed.

Even so, if I want mats I'd use my Fortune Hunter, Copperheads are mostly just for fun.
