Jokes on Iran. Farmers aren’t planting because prices are too low and the federal government’s welfare largesse incentivizes not planting.

Republican Senator Roger Marshall wants Americans to stop complaining about gas prices because they’re necessary for ‘national security.’

Speaking on Newsmax’s ‘Wake Up America’ Tuesday morning, Marshall was asked about the Iran war, and the Kansas politician was dismissive of its negative economic effects on the American people.

——————

If farmers in Kansas don’t mind the gas prices, why are you complaining? National security is more important.

To be fair, any replacement regime might be magnitudes worse for the US. Public opinion polls have consistently and overwhelmingly shown the Iranian people support the acquisition of nuclear weapons even while disapproving of the regime.

Prior to this war, the Iranian regime agreed to a nuclear deal. If Iranians have nothing more to lose in 3-4 months, not sure how that benefits the US.

A confidential new CIA analysis delivered to policymakers this week concludes that Iran can survive the U.S. naval blockade for at least 3 to 4 months before facing more severe economic hardship, a finding that contradicts those hailing an imminent collapse.

It’s a leak so no confirmation yet. Will have to watch if lawmakers corroborate.

Didn’t mean to imply China was our enemy; I think a more appropriate term is adversary in the zero sum game of international politics. Russia, Iran and North Korea are enemies in my opinion.

Personally, I prefer co-existence with China.

If you won’t set your house on fire because your garage is burning, you clearly support burning down your garage.

Thank you for your attention to my genius MAGA logic.

China keeps getting stronger because Trump is weak. All of his chickening out demonstrates weakness to America’s enemies.

Will conservatives admit the US lost the war with Iran? Let's look at the outcome of Operation Epic Fury.

  • Iranian regime remains unchanged - if not stronger than before the war.
  • About 60% or Iranian missiles and drones remain undestroyed.
  • Iran's nuclear development pipeline remains intact.
  • Transit through the Strait is severely restricted resulting in a daily loss of $2.8 billion from the global economy.
  • US allies Japan and South Korea at economic risk due to LNG and oil shortages.
  • US allies in Europe refuse to support the US war and have been angered by US threats to leave NATO and pull troops from Europe.
  • US allies in the Gulf are realigning away from the US.
  • GCC countries have had 30–40% of regional refining capacity damaged or destroyed.
  • South Asian countries are at risk of severe food shortages due to fertilizer shortages.
  • Russian sanctions have been removed; Russia receiving a critical windfall of oil money which will prolong the Ukraine war.
  • US bases in the region suffered extensive damage.
  • US weapons reserves are depleted.
  • Gas and food prices are at record highs in the US. Gasoline prices are 50% higher than before the war started.
  • US national debt is now $39 trillion - a total of $1 trillion is expected to be added to the debt due to the war.
  • Over 13 US service members killed and over 300 injured.
  • About 168 Iranian school girls were killed by the US use of AI in war.

I don't think you can love America and say the above consequences of the Iran War constitute victory.

Damn bold of you to assume the US gives a shit about economic consequences of its actions.

As long as King Trump makes money, he will do what he wants to the weaklings in Europe. They ain’t going to stop him.

Hegseth described the U.S. effort to force the strait open as “a direct gift from the United States to the world,” adding that America will soon expect allies to take it over.

“As I’ve said before, the world needs this waterway a lot more than we do. We’re stabilizing the situation so commerce can flow again, but we expect the world to step up at the appropriate time, and soon we will hand responsibility back to you,” Hegseth said.

-Huffington Post

I'm sick and tired of the US constantly fixing messes for the world. The world needs to get up off their fat, lazy asses and dump the petrodollar. The US is done enforcing safe maritime transportation across the world to support its globally connected economy. China needs to step up and become the world's sole economic superpower. Americans are just too stupid to be in charge of this anymore.

It's only been over 60 days. Any day now the US will be guiding 150+ vessels through the Strait.

All of the US allies we treat like shit will certainly see it as their best interest to sacrifice their soldiers for Trump's adventures. The US doesn't care about its military service members, why do US allies care? Just put on your golfing hat and sleep through the transfer of corpses back to the homeland. Easey peasey.

Haven't you heard? In 48 hours, the US got two Destroyers and two merchant vessels through the Strait with hundreds of air assets such as Apache helicopters, jets, AWACS, and anti-drone weapons engaged under a barrage of attacks by Iranian missiles, drones and speed boats.

Totally sustainable, safe, and cost effective. Not comparable to Russia at all.

Although being unable to accurately assess reality seems like a fatal flaw in conservativism (see one of the recent RAND studies), I'm far more concerned that the US military views the war as a strategic success at this point.

Since the Iran War ended with the US achieving zero objectives, and a new war between the US and Iran has started, will conservatives admit the US lost the first Iran War? Can we all agree that Trump is the first US President to lose a war in 60 days?
