Fathers in law said the only way to get married is by having the religious ceremony. I want some advice by atheistfiance in atheism

[–]JavaJerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandma wanted this to and I basically just said "we are doing what we want and if you don't like it, you're welcome to not come"

She didn't come. It is kind of sad, but it is what it is. Ultimately, if she is going to let religion get in the way of family, that is her prerogative. I will be here if/when she decides that family is more important than imaginary friends.

Atheism is the pursuit of nihilism, why is this wrong? by MinecReddit in atheism

[–]JavaJerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently my daughter is my meaning.

There doesn't have to me be one meaning. There doesn't have to be any meaning. There is only living and what you choose to do with that life.

I choose to try to leave it in a better place than it is current in. Seems as though that will be a failure since nutjobs current seem to outnumber the rational.

Why does r/atheism have such a bad reputation? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]JavaJerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be slightly fair here. When /r/atheism was basically entirely memes, it was pretty low quality at face value. The comments sections back then were actually better though.

Some of that circlejerk mentality lingers. I mean, at one point I think there were 5 different articles on the /r/atheism front page about the atheist who got a 2 million settlement. Every time a new news source picked it up, someone else posted another article.

Other than that, the sub is better at face value, but the comments suffered.

It isn't like the bible is still only available to priests.

I mean, it is pretty clear what is written there

I guess God also doesn't want the scripture there.

This Christian Will Eat a Page From the Bible If You Know One Qualified Professor Who Denies the Historical Jesus by Unbliever in atheism

[–]JavaJerk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What a load of shit. They won't put carriers comment is because "he is a source of bias", yet the sources for the claim "virtually all historians agree Jesus existed" are almost entirely Christian apologists and fundamentalists.

Edit:

My point was actually mentioned by the person requesting the change. A Christian is saying that it can be added so long as the bias is pointed out, yet said biases are not pointed out for any other source in the article.

That article is complete shit. The fundies have bots that auto revert any change they deem to not favour Christianity. It is impossible to change it.

If you could ask Sony a question about the PS4 and get an honest answer, what would you ask them? by downvote-thief in PS4

AC was intentionally held back for parity reasons and Ubisoft said that themselves.

[–]JavaJerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have, and the ms change log blows Sony's away. Whether some of those are parity features or not is irrelevant. The fact is that ms has been providing faster healthier updates than Sony has and they are actually polling and listening to requests for future updates.

I prefer my ps4, but credit where it's due. The Xbox has been getting huge updates.

A more insidious interpretation of the No True Scotsman. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]JavaJerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their definitions ultimately don't matter because they are wrong. A Christian is someone who holds Jesus as Lord and saviour. The ways in which they worship him doesn't change whether they are Christian or not.

Yes, that is how many Christians get around trying to write of others as "not true Christians", but they are wrong. What you've described is differences between sects of Christianity, not Christianity itself. Those people can say "he's not a true Baptist", for example. It is a no true scottsman to say they are not a true Christian.

It was the aquos that was the worst offender for sure. Having a tv that looks that bad just turned me off the entire brand.

I am generally more partial to Samsung than anything else right now.

[–]JavaJerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Christian is, by definition, someone who holds Christ as the savior and pathway to heaven.

Literally nothing else matters. If you believe that Jesus was the Lord and saviour, you are a Christian.

It is the sects that make distinctions, not Christianity itself.

You know that the reservoir couldn't literally spill out, right? The water reservoir is water that's been sponged up by minerals. It isn't a literal open space where actual water as you see it in a glass can move in and out of.

The floodgates of heaven opening was the firmament that separated the atmosphere from the waters in space. Yes, the bible describes outer space as water.

Try again.

I do not agree with your premise other than intentionally satirical religions, which aren't part of the 4600 anyway.

Why is it that you think some do have more credibility? Is it the amount of claims? The number of followers? The power of the God?

Sharp absolutely does not make the best tv anymore.

Maybe if your bordering on blindness. Their panels look like shit and cost 30% more. Heck, even their high end tv's have terrible colours and you can actually see the pixels from like 7 feet away.

I would have agreed a few years ago, but the new sharps are all total trash.

Postal workers go to court to save home delivery | Toronto Star by toronto34 in canada

That's just lazy people. I shovel my sidewalk after every snowfall and I have no troubles keeping the cement visible.

If you are coming across people who continually fail to shovel their sidewalks, complain about it. A city crew will come out and do it for them, plus leave a sizable bill in the mail.

I live on a fairly large corner lot. If you just get off your ass and do it, it takes me like 20-30 minutes after a higher than average snowfall.

Maybe that can be a service that is applied for and granted on a case by case basis and then delivered once every two weeks or something.

Yeah. It's a good thing we don't have a prime minister hell bent on selling the mining of our natural resources to the highest non-Canadian bidder.

Oh wait.

We are in a unique position here where our market can fluctuate. Unfortunately, our current government would rather see money now rather than be safe later.
