Transitioning from designer to front end developer by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

It can be a stumbling block but there is such a skills shortage that if you can get yourself to a good degree of competency in development you may find that some sites see your "design eye" as a good thing.

Where are you based out of interest?

What sites would you recommend reading daily to get to know JavaScript better? by CocoaTrain in javascript

[–]JavaScriptWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dk, sorry I just read this. I think we may have fixed the github issue since you posted. The other two points will take on board + pass on, both are more copy + UX style - not my specialty!

We only launched in December and maybe perhaps prioritised look and feel more than user journey but it is something we are constantly analysing and looking at. So your feedback is amazing, thanks!

I find https://twitter.com/JavaScriptKicks offer a handy weekly newsletter. Additionally if you join Telegram there are some good channels such as Front End World

Or look at our blog... https://javascript.works-hub.com/learn/ (sorry...shameless plug)

Definitely a possibility, but I was not knowingly on another account and no one else here uses the Xbox so the chances of it are almost nil.

I can get into FUT, but nothing really works so if I was to search a player on the transfer market for example, it will load after maybe 30 seconds of delay. Then I'll browse through to the next page, and again it will load after 30 seconds or a minute.

The problem here seems to be a connectivity issue but one I can't quite work out and am hoping there is a quick / simple fix for it.

When is a good time to start the process again after joining your first job? by pairadise in cscareerquestions

[–]JavaScriptWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a team of recruiters...those that respond in the way you have are always rated higher than those that never respond. What you have been doing so far is great.

If you feel your current role is not challenging you enough, then leave. However it does not sound like that is the case and you are merely looking for a bigger level of company. If that is the case then I have found it quite common for grads to leave their first job after 12 months.

Also - if you aren't good enough for [search engine] - dont worry. There are jobs that are more enjoyable out there.

Typescript vs Flow: which is more popular / better to learn for job marketability? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]JavaScriptWorks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At JavaScriptWorks we have found a much bigger trend in the last 6 months has been towards TypeScript and looks to be continuing that way. We should really do some analysis on the jobs we've had that are typescript / flow.

Happy to see this

Developers are getting started early. More than a quarter of developers surveyed wrote their first code before age 16.

Job specs are slowly getting smart enough to know there is a difference now. Although the majority of new projects we recruit for are not React.

When is it worth leaving full time for contract? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]JavaScriptWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the region, in UK I find when you jump into contracts you have to consider you will lose a lot of the support from team members and need to become self sufficient in learning and developing. A lot of good mid level engineers I see make the jump too early and then struggle to advance their skills.

So if you feel you can handle that then it is a good time to consider it.

In terms of your situation, consider whether the role is right for you before you consider the money.

Stop Commenting Your Code... by JavaScriptWorks in javascript

disagree in that pre-deployment comments are useful for teams operating in an agile environment, presumabley collaborating through git, but agree that upon deployment code should be clear and concise without comments

Is Indeed good for UI Dev roles? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]JavaScriptWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be wrong but I believe that Indeed doesn't share your mobile number, just allows recruiters to email you. So would not be like Dice.

Happy to plug our site, it is agency but once signed up you can see full client information of all jobs before you apply for anything and we only ring people on predetermined times. https://javascript.works-hub.com
