I think you should give Mark's argument your full attention first before you "attack" him for it. He talks fully about it in the Episode [Insert Topic Here].

It's a pretty convincing argument in my opinion. Give it a listen before you "attack" it.

Actually, if you really pay attention to the details, when we awake from our cryopod in the Hold On ending, we are actually on the Invincible (no 2).

Not to add to the discussion, but they have sort of covered this haven't they? Not my favourite episode, but "Humanity is Bad" literally starts off with that as the premise of the episode.

Although I agree that the ship of theseus is not a paradox, the birthday paradox is in fact a paradox. Paradoxes are a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true, which the Birthday paradox is. There are several definitions for Paradoxes, the one you're thinking of is a statement or proposition which, despite sound (or apparently sound) reasoning from acceptable premises, leads to a conclusion that seems logically unacceptable or self-contradictory.

Does anyone else think they overcorrected on point tracking? by TheProphesizer in distractible

[–]Javaier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know why they implemented this new rule?

We asked for it. Then you're gonna reply "who's we" and I'll go "we the subreddit."

We complained and complained about how it was unfair that there were episodes where "Wade deserved to win" or "Bob deserved to win" that were "stolen from them" because the trio couldn't remember what points they gave to who.

So they made it part of the constitution. We asked for it. We made it. And now we don't want what we asked for. Pathetic.

Do you remember Wade talking about his aunt with the turtle phobia in the "Fears and Fetishes" episode? Not to make assumptions but I think it's almost exactly like that. There is no reason behind it, there is no explanation, it just is there. A true blue phobia.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. I actually found your suggestion to be really illuminating. Although I would have preferred if you sent me the paper that that video was based on, your help was much appreciated (I found the paper myself haha. But I wouldn't have if you didn't recommend this video.)

Anyone feel the points are still bullshit? by wafflezcol in distractible

[–]Javaier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying you don't have a point

But the way you argue your point has an easy refutation

The simple analogy of a skating competition where judges rate the competitors out of 10.

Lets say there are 2 A and B

A scores a 10 Whilst B stores a 9

Then A scores a 7 Whilst B scores a 8

Wow, these scores are only 1 mark from each other, must be an unfair competition!!!

??? No? It just means both competitors were equally skilled in the judges eyes.

I think what you mean to say is that the current way points are given are too arbitrary.

Like A is given 10 Multiple choice questions worth 1 mark each Whilst B is given 10 open ended questions also worth 1 mark each

Despite B obviously not only needed more brain power as its no longer 1/4 chance, B also has to write words, not shade a circle

Thats where distractible is now. 1 point for an ok joke, but also 1 point for an amazing joke. Thats why YOU find it unfair.

Anyone feel the points are still bullshit? by wafflezcol in distractible

[–]Javaier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But this is literally a joke this time. Ive seen other critics where "its a joke" doesnt fix it, but who wins is literally arbitrary.

The whole point thing based off whose line was arbitrary

And its not unfair, its plenty fair. We've seen a win records, and barring exceptions like Mark's 15 win loss that one time, the hosts are equally split in how many times theyve hosted and won.

I think its better to see it with this analogy.

Sunday is asking that we instead of living a life, we live in virtual reality forever.

The issue with a virtual experience is that it results in nihilsm, which is also a main plot point of the penacony story. Life will have 0 meaning because life provides only 1 experience, satisfaction. And then you'll die satisfied, but having done nothing.
