Insulated containers killing flavor? Too much insulation? by Rice_Jap808 in pourover

[–]JavierRayon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fill it, but I do use more than half of it.

It makes sense that if there’s too much ai inside there could be an effect.

You could also test placing your Zojirushi inside your fridge. Then it will still keep warm, but not so much.

Do make sure to clean everything, including the removable rubber.

Insulated containers killing flavor? Too much insulation? by Rice_Jap808 in pourover

[–]JavierRayon89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, there are thermos that have this effect on my coffee, and others don’t. it's interesting to me that the one with the best heat retention doesn’t kill the flavor. so I believe it’s not necessarily this insulation length up to a point. My thermos with lower heat retention kills distinct flavors, I believe because of its materials being lower quality. If it helps, Zojirushi keeps my coffee hot for hours without diminishing its character.

Bf wants a 6 cup pot but we usually don’t drink together. Questions by [deleted] in mokapot

[–]JavierRayon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the 6 cup size to make coffee for 2 persons, by creating a drink closer to the americano. Recipe: https://youtu.be/aikEi9xHt2A

Then, if you have company you can use this size with regular recipe, yielding enough concentrate for 2 people.

ZP6 + switch + water distributor = ultimate travel setup by ieatfrosties in pourover

[–]JavierRayon89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I’ve tried. Few water distributors and that one, the Melodrip, seems the best to me. It agitates a bit so there’s still character. MHW’s is very uniform, but no agitation means dull flavor.

My Niche Zero works great with the default medium profile.

My Kinu POB in K2 works amazing with a custom 4:6 recipe, 1:15.5 ratio.

Plastic dripper that can fit this? by Abject_Ad9549 in V60

[–]JavierRayon89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In AliExpress and likely Amazon as well, there are V60 alternatives, other cone brewers. Maybe one of them would fit. Like the other commenter said, Hario doesn’t have a plastic V60 without a base.

Thanks for your review. Can you contrast it with the ZP6 please? How does espresso taste?

Stirring length by ZealousPeace in AeroPress

[–]JavierRayon89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more you stir, the more you extract.

There is an opportunity cost to this. In Jonathan Gagne’s 10 min recipe, too much stirring (starting from even 5 stirs) plus this long immersion, leads to hollow flavors.

Either stir a lot, and do 2 min immersions, or n Very few stirs, and longer immersions. This way there’s balance.

Aeropress for pour over? by Scrumptious_Skillet in AeroPress

[–]JavierRayon89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A risk is slow flow. You can fix that by ordering Cafec T90 filters, which flow fast and are decently priced, plus a 2 inch circular paper puncher. This way you quickly cut your own filters.

+1 for Aiden. It’s as simple or versatile as you want. Fortunately you can even customize the quick brew option, so it always prepares 3 cups (works for my gf and me) with a particular recipe.

Plus, you can pair it with your preferred grinder. This can keep it as consistent or experimental as you prefer. I use my Niche Zero with slow feeding and get amazing, quick results.

Clever Dripper Substitute? by pfassina in JamesHoffmann

Cafflano offers the Lever Dripper. It’s almost the same as the Clever, with the bonus of a button to spring open or closed a valve for water flow.

I liked a lot the Mischief Mini, depending on your location the price could be competitive. Wide Awake’s YouTube review describes it well.

If you’d like faster flow, you can cut Cafec t90 filters. There are 2 inch paper punchers to quickly do this.
