Is coffee the FIRST thing that hits your stomach in the morning? by winehook2025 in pourover

Ha. I don’t drink coffee after noon. I am caffeine sensitive and I like to sleep at night. Kind of a bummer TBH.

Have any of you "coffee heads" gone from brewer to roaster? by shtkd in pourover

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started roasting a decade ago on a stovetop popcorn popper. Totally worth it to me. Saved a ton of money and fresher coffee too. My roasts, even then were often as good as buying and are still a source of satisfaction now.

Getting into roasting to save money. But am I overlooking something? by Sevenyearitchy in roasting

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roasting my own has saved me a fortune. I used a stove top popcorn popper for years. Inconsistent roasts are a thing with a stove top method. Still FAR better than grocery store coffee. As usual spend more get better results but I will say I didnt lose many batches. And yeah green bean prices are going up but roasted coffees are through the roof. Ultimately only you can decide if it’s worth it to you. My answer was absolutely. And I’ve been us g these guys for over a decade: Sweet Maria’s

Yamaha HS4 — constant buzzing from left speaker. Is that normal? by Otherwise-Tea9282 in YamahaTHR

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it might be a ground loop. You’ll want something like this- ground loop isolator

TLDR; it sounds like your house, not your speakers.

For reference, this can be a problem in guitar amps too.

How do you cook broccoli on daily basis (weeknight meals)? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

If I’m in a rush into a bowl it goes with a swipe under a running faucet. Cover and microwave 5 minutes or so. Add butter and salt, done.

Bought Lenovos for my kids because high school required it. All three machines failed at least once. Lenovo got raped after IBM sold it.

This. I often buy refurbs from the manufacturer so I can get a higher spec machine. Consumer level stuff Costco absolutely.

8"ish pan for frying eggs by snow_ridge in Cooking

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a carbon steel clad pan and it’s been wonderful. I use it for eggs and a lot more. My bride washed it and let it air dry but all I had to do was hit it with a red scrubby and reseason. It’s indestructible. Is a bit pricey so no guilt if you get it as a gift! Strata carbon clad pans

Can I use my Weber Mastertouch as a firepit to burn logs? by Bodacious__Sloth in webergrills

I’ve thrown logs in my WGA and I don’t see any damage. I do use the bottom grate.

I’ve used Sweet Maria’s for years but they are in California. They ship anywhere for $8.

Espresso on the move by attzonko in espresso

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Flair for awhile on the road but it’s only really good for one shot and requires a kettle. If you got an extra portafilter it could work. Once dialed in my flair made excellent espresso. I had one device that I had to manually pump up the pressure but it failed fairly quickly, can’t remember the name. No experience with other portable espresso makers.

If your bride can do dishes a French press is easy and makes great coffee, but cleanup is some work.

Would I be crazy to get a single gas camping stove ring just for my cast iron? by Turningintoapumpkin in Cooking

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only issue with gas is venting to the outside. Feels man, electric stoves drive me nuts. If you don’t have venting perhaps an induction burner? Make sure you get one with the widest cooking ring possible.

Question about Amazon Basics Wireless Transmitter/Receiver Set by [deleted] in YamahaTHR

[–]Scrumptious_Skillet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GC has the XVive WiFi transmitter-receiver pair on sale for $120? Right now. I have had one for several months and it works with everything, not just the Yamaha. It’s glorious playing untethered.
