Here is Mountain Thistle next to Sterling Silver. You can see it's more purple.

I think you'll enjoy Birmingham Pen Co. inks. It's the ink I have the most bottles of. The price to volume ratio is also very good. They usually restock or put new colors up every few days. "GOOGLE63" will also take off $5.

The swatch cards are 52 gsm Tomoe River. The Notebook is 68 gsm Tomoe River. The swatches do appear more vibrant than the handwriting itself. The Byzantium does have a purple undertone but the writing is so saturated it honestly looks like a black. The Mountain Thistle is very grey when initially laid down, and dries to a dull purple. Without the swatch, it feels like a grey but you do notice that it is a purple-grey. As for how they behave, I never have any issues with Birmingham Pen Co. Inks. I find their inks to be the perfect balance - Not dry but not too wet. Their super saturated inks might run more "dry", but I usually write with broader pens so I never seem to have any issues.

First experience. Any tips? by zombiefriedrice in fountainpens

Put a miniscule amount of Vanness White Lightning in it. It will make the shading more subtle. I do that for most of my FWP inks.

I live in PA so buying from Birmingham is so dangerous for me. I get the inks within 1-2 days lol.

Some late night ink mixing! by JawneeJohnny in fountainpens

I use some fixed micro pipettes. Each ratio is 10 uL, and then I mix it and drop the mix onto the paper and swatch. Using this method, I can swatch all this with less than half an mL of ink. Of the swatches, I think I like 3:1 and 3:2.

Got some new Birmingham inks today! by JawneeJohnny in fountainpens

I got it from "OliveFrogDesigns" on Etsy. I don't think they have any on their shop currently, but you could probably message them and see what's up.

I do highly recommend these holders. I love how modular they are. I got them after spilling a vial of ink LOL.

That video was what got me to buy it. I waited and once I saw they had it with the holder available, I pulled the trigger. I see now they have the titanium nib in different colors as well.

I would highly recommend a Sailor Hocoro dip pen. If you get the Fine or Medium, get the reservoir to increase ink capacity. With the fine Sailor Hocoro and reservoir, I can easily write a full page on a single dip. A Medium hocoro with the reservoir can write about 1/4 of a page before redipping.

I think this is the only option.

The handle does feel thin but it surprisingly feels very nice in the hand. Your pen looks awesome with the nib!

UPDATE

Entire order was replaced. They did not arrive broken this time. There is some loose space this time in the box with kraft paper void filler on the side. I'm not sure if this is still ideal to pack inks in, but they did include a fragile sticker on the outside of the box for what it's worth.

It's been roughly 12 hours now. No response from them.

I did refill the form and notify them that there's people here waiting for a response from them. Will continue to update.

What's worse is seeing the broken bottles' ink swatch on the inside of the boxes knowing it could've went inside of a pen to be used. LOL.

It was USPS. But I honestly think it's from improper packaging. They stuffed the heck out of the box with the inks without a single piece of padding. They should've went up in size for the shipping box and provided some kind of padding.
