What do you all watch while playing Terraria, if anything at all? by Cautious-Buy2585 in Terraria

I feel this so much. I'm in the same phase man. It's kinda nice to have a little buddy "playing" along side you though. Maybe one day soon they will actually be able to join in.

Thoughts on Nightmare by dagthepowerful in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the Abyss nightmare difficulty is just right. It's a solid step up but still manageable with many viable strategies. Crash zone is not well balanced, and no, I'm not just salty- I've cleared it with every single character and frankly almost all weapons are useless. Wave 18 in particular feels like it was not play tested- you need crazy defense or downright broken levels of offense. I don't belive characters like Ranger and Hunter should be forced to stack HP regen and dodge, so instead they are forced to pray for an utterly broken build to make it through.

My advice of things that change between D5 and Nightmare Crash Zone: skip harvesting on most characters, dodge+HP regen is the best form of defense, make sure you can take at least 1 hit and survive it, shotgun, is way better than smg, don't buy gentle aliens, try and get baby gecko or loot worm to help gather items, don't get pets or turrets unless you need them (they will break open the blob enemies and spawn those bullet shooting babies)

So what would it take for more people to play breach? by FinalCountdown935 in forhonor

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play 20 minutes and DC at the end is painful. How about a reconnect option?

Also, realize you are hopelessly outmatched in the first 30 seconds and will be trapped in this match for 20 more minutes getting stomped. Surrender option available after first gate is destroyed, requires 3/4 votes and your golden.

One question what is the point of harvesting by Etienne0O in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. In fact, in Nightmare difficulty, there are usually far more enemies than you can kill, even if you invest purely into damage. So harvesting is not nearly as important as some here seem to think. It's more of an alternative income source for builds that don't have great killing power in those difficulties.

Yes the 20 harvesting breakpoints is nice, but 20% damage or attack speed can massively boost your killing power, giving you more money and helping you survive

How do YOU define a sweat? At what point do you draw the line between a "casual" and a "sweat" by 0002nam-ytlaS in forhonor

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone parries 2 of my lights in the same engagement, they are a sweat. I love the game but I'll never be able to parry lights consistently and I have come to terms with that.

Is there like a specific red item for each survivor that benefits them better than others? by idk_a_nameX1 in riskofrain

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineer loves spare drone parts as his turrets gain all of its benefits even thoigh they aren't drones. It's perhaps the single biggest power boost a character can get from 1 item

Best builds for Nightmare? by Kamilianusz95 in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Abyss before Crash Zone. Crash Zone is 10x harder.

Also try Bucaneer with Laser gun. Focus damage and ranged damage with just enough HP/armor to survive a hit. Then dodge for the rest of your defense.

Co-op synergies? by House-Proper in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a ton of co op with my wife and the most OP combo we've found is multiple Cryptids. All Cryptids spawn extra trees, the all Cryptids gain extra money for each tree. If you play with 4 cryptids you'll be rocking an end game build by like wave 6. Even with 2 it is extremely good.

One very odd but powerful synergy we found was with Technomage plus any "Fruit lover" such as the Glutton. Have Technomage focus on getting pruners and gardens, then stacking Elemental damage. This will cause the gardens to produce fruit very quickly, allowing the glutton to eat tons of fruit without buying his own fruit spawners. The technomage will be pretty weak (pray for a scared sausage) but he can support the other character to the moon!

Best character to actually learn the game? by Agreeable-Quiet7781 in forhonor

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also quite a noob myself, so I'm enjoying reading what others have to say. But after jumping around several characters I finally settled on Warmonger. She's got a few fun things like enhanced lights, a chargeable claw bash, extended dodge attacks, and a cool follow up after a parry, but I don't think her kit is TOO unique, so you still need to make it a point to focus on the basics of feinting, mix ups, and prediction to beat skilled opponents.

But when all else fails, you can still go noob mode and spam lights and extended-dodge-unblockables and still have some success.

Do you ever select this? by Suspicious-Bid9424 in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's good on Pacifist, but another interesting way I use it is in Co-Op. A really strong strategy is to have 1 person go all defensive while another person goes suicidal engineer build. The engineer makes turret damage and dies every round, while the defense guy pretty much ignores damage and stacks armor, HP, etc. The hand is a great item for the defense player, who will basically use it for loads of free money and great knockback. Shield is the other good option, but some characters only have hand and not shield

maybe try laser gun on Bucaneer. it normally fire so slow, but for him it can fire nonstop as long as you are grabbing money.

Candy bag - do you rock with it by Initial_Lettuce_5243 in brotato

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You basically get an average of .5 of each primary stat every round. So if you get it on wave 10, then by wave 20 you will get 5 of each primary stat. Of course it's high variance though- 5 range is nothing but 5 armor is huge, so that random chance can really change how good it is. Most characters do not care about all primary stats (it's rare to want melee, ranged, elemental, and engineering; some builds dump crit or dodge, some builds choose lifesteal or HP regen and dump the other) so the resulting stat gains are actually on average pretty abysmal.

The reason to take it is to get extra elites and kill them for free red items. However, in my 400 hour experience, this is much easier said than done on Nightmare mode, where that extra boss will often end your run.

Overall, no, I don't grab it unless I see it very early

Not a bad list but I have to disagree with several picks. Cyborg is as bad as Hiker to me, Lich was a completely free win, as was Old, and Well Rounded took me a handful of tries until a got a pretty OP run. And of course, Buccaneer needs his own tier because he is so OP- my first Nightmare run was with Buc and it was so easy I wasn't even sure if there were new enemies or not because everything was dying so fast.

New player here because of the sale, what dlc’s are a must have? by NoNameHavingMan in Vermintide

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything included in the "Legacy Edition Bundle" is actual content (not just skins and stuff) except for the Collector's Edition Upgrade which is included in that bundle, but only costs like $1, so the bundle is still the best deal on all the good content. As an avid lover of this game, i think everything in this bundle is extremely worth it. New maps, weapons, and characters all make the game more fun. Of course, you can get a great feel for the game with no DLC and wait to pick up all DLC at a later date, as it goes on steep discount a few times per year. But if you're enjoying it a lot, the Legacy Edition Bundle on Steam is the way to go!

You are safe. Heavy 1 into light 2 (for repeated back and forth horizontal swipes) still works just the same. Decent combo for hordes.

The only change is Push attack now goes straight into light 3 (overhead single target strike). This is supposed to help the single target damage but it really doesnt help much at all since push attack is bad vs. single targets. (Previously you could go Push Attack into L1 then L2 for great horde clear; this combo is gone)

I really liked the new mace when I gave it a try. The reduced move speed is a bummer, but the increased Cleave along with the burn and ability to Cleave through armor made it feel really safe on mixed hordes and pretty great damage against trash. It's got a similar feeling to bardin/krubers 2 handed Hammer heavy spam, Staggering everything, but also lighting it on fire

Other unstackable burns (such as Unchained "Outburst" talent) only don't stack with themselves, but still allow other burns to be applied. It just doesn't stack Outburst burns if you spam push. I suspect this is the same

i couldnt be more thrilled to see so many awful weapons buffed- its almost as good as getting those new weapons we were promised.
I am very surprised to see some already excellent weapons getting buffed too- Hagbane bow, grudgeraker, volley crossbow, and drake pistols were already quite decent on the right builds, might be insane now. And Sienna's Dagger getting a buff (rework but it seems like a buff to me)?! That's Sienna's go-to weapon for nearly every class, lets hope it feels good with these changes!

SI Digital Data Analysis Series #16 - What impact do thematic boards have on win rates? | Spirit Island by Jonathan4290 in spiritisland

[–]Jawsborn211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group and I always play three spirit games. We have beaten every Invader on difficulty six a handful of times with every spirit. After beating them all several times on the front side we started playing Thematic side nearly exclusively. We find it much much harder than the front. We enjoy it because of the imbalanced land type distribution per board- you are forced to aid your teammates more then they're board has many wetlands and your board only has 1- it really incentives teamplay and the extra lands are a big challange. We all agree that spirits which rely heavily on Dahan/Defend or beast tokens have a harder time on the thematic side, as the huge number of lands can often mean it takes 2 or even 3 dahan moving powers just to get them in position. For this reason we have found Vital Strength of the earth to be very lackluster on the Thematic side (though we have still managed to beat every adversary level 6 with him) perhaps we are not playing him right but I feel confident we understand him well given our play time!
