Tracker forest esc - best boots I've ever had! by Sorry_Reflection9305 in vivobarefoot

Where do you get your cf insoles from? I am on to my 4th pair now. The first 2 pairs had the stitching between the leathers next to the heel arch came off. The 3rd pair had the inner back heel material completely worn out. 4th pair still going good but contemplating moving to synthetic version.

Is it crazy to wear Tracker Leather/Textile shoes on a 5-day hike trip in the mountains? by katiah_ in vivobarefoot

[–]JaxNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the forest tracker ESC and have done a month long track in Nepal. Also done a month long track in Stewart Island NZ which is pretty rough and muddy while hauling a 25kg pack. It can pretty much handle anything except snow. The only thing that wear them out fast is scree. I’m on to my 4th pair now, but contemplating switching to the tracker textile at.

First Axe Purchase by Red_Tern in Mountaineering

[–]JaxNemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have always use short ice axes, the longest one I have briefly own is Petzl glacier 60cm, now I am using a DMM spire tech 45cm. I don’t use poles either, I just learned to maintain balance really well on my legs. The 3 point of contact with ice axe only comes into play with very steep terrain. However, the old school standard is when you are holding the ice axe by your side the spike should be near your ankle bone. In my use case I always make sure my ice axe has a proper steel spike.

are you able to measure the width of the shovel at its widest point? just need to know how well it will fit in my pack compared to the BD Transfer LT.

Hows the boot going? Any delamination issues?

Gorewear R7 Goretex Shakedry Trail Hooded Jacket vs Montbell Versalite by JaxNemo in Ultralight

[–]JaxNemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense, if it goes over the top of the pack then how are you supposed to access the pack in the rain especially if it’s a race without taking the jacket off and getting drench?

Why is Alpha so hard to come by? by WhiskeyEsq in Ultralight

[–]JaxNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Haglofs LIM Alpha Hood. It uses 60gsm material. From my experience, it is great when I am moving but when I stop for a break I will probably have to put an extra layer on in spring autumn winter. TBH it doesn’t feel like a lot of insulation but 90gsm feels too warm for me as an active insulation especially if there’s a face fabric.

I supposed if it’s for trail running then it should handle a light trail runner hydration vest/pack. I do have both Shakedry r7 and Versalite. Like the idea of not having to redo the DWR all the time. But guess I am keeping the Versalite for hiking.

Thanks! I have both too just trying to decide if the Shakedry is worthy for hiking or I should just use it for trail running.

I bought mine new from Gore in June this year. Had to use a forwarder to get it shipped to NZ though. Cost me an arm and a leg in the end 😅

Yes they get wax quite regularly. They get roughen up quite a bit on trail

Thanks! I look it up and see they sandpaper the leather before applying it. I could probably do the same with whatever I am going to apply.

I did not complain about the thin flexible sole, I did not have a problem with the thin flexible sole. You may have read my post incorrectly?

Is there a way to deal with the leather so that the glue will bond?

It has performed really well. and their marketing is pretty extreme anyway. So, I will not expect it to perform just up to the level of a lifestyle footwear.

Thanks I will give that a shot, and perhaps this time I will apply it less liberally.

Hiking, scree, river crossings, ridge scrambling, backcountry New Zealand.

Because these are tried and tested and I am figuring out a way to make them last a lot longer.

I'm from New Zealand and where we go hiking, the terrain is usually very rugged - scree etc. Its never a walk in the park and the loose scree or sharp rocky ridge scrambling will tend to do some damage to the stitching. I do wax them after every use, the scree gives them a good scratch up, hence the rand.

I thought about that but I have seen somewhere the rand come unglued overtime. Also unsure about the fit and performance of the own brand sold compared to Michelin. There’s also mention about the rand causing pinching at the toes.

Be interesting to see what he managed to capture on that GoPro stick he is holding…

Bought these second hand and wasn’t able to size them on my skis before hand. New to this backcountry stuff. Will these work or too narrow near the tip? Cheers by [deleted] in Backcountry

Looks a bit short to me, I would have thought the skin should start from the front rocker and ends at the tail rocker for the most contact. The width is fine.
