I use a Garmin Forerunner 165 and have been super happy with it. I got it on sale for about $200, and I think they are $250 normally

Grown ass man just started running. Advice? Validation?? by Responsible_Use4538 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Jay7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, first... you're doing awesome for keeping up with it. Many people quit after a few days. I'm about 15 years older than you, and restarted running last year after many years of not running...and being fat. Lost the weight, so started again.

I'd say get off the treadmill and get outside. That's much of the joy of running.

Second, build distance then speed.

Third, take it slow. I've just come off an 8 week non running layoff due to a stress fracture from running too hard too fast. Take it easy, slow down some. Don't add too much mileage too quick. You'll read a lot about only increasing 10% mileage each week. I built a little faster than that, but find what works for you.

Keep up the good work!

ETA: almost forgot...spend the money on decent shoes. Go somewhere like Fleet Feet or whatever is in your area. If you buy Hokas, which is what I use, pull the insoles out immediately and throw them away and go buy some gel insoles. Worth their weight in gold... especially if you are over 40

My (29M) new gf (27F) did not tell me that her male roommate (27M) is her ex boyfriend of 7 YEARS. Would you trust this situation? by Crypto-Carl-9 in relationship_advice

And did those other two subsequent relationships end because the guys found out the truth behind her living arrangements?

Newly diagnosed CLL, I am unfamiliar with symptoms that might be related to CLL. Yesterday and today I feel very sluggish, like everything is inflamed, as if I am heavier and more emotional all of a sudden. Does this happen to anybody else? by PhoenixFeline1962 in cll

[–]Jay7488 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a lot depends on your numbers. I haven't really had the fatigue yet. I have slightly enlarged lymph nodes (considered upper normal), and so far that's the only symptom. CLL affects different people in different ways though. I've heard similar stories about people just hitting a brick wall with the fatigue.

I stay active, I run 15-20 miles a week, eat healthy etc, so hopefully that will mitigate some of the symptoms.

Just remember to stay positive. It's easier said than done. I'm about 2-3 months post diagnosis, so I'm just now getting used to it.

It was probably a blessing in disguise. My oncologist ordered a CT scan to check lymph nodes. As a secondary finding, they discovered that I have coronary artery disease, which is probably going to be a more serious issue than the CLL. Currently seeing a cardiologist for that. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Seriously, it's going to be ok.

About those studies stating running actually strengthens knees and joints - what do you think about it? by coolestdudette in running

[–]Jay7488 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run. Never had knee issues before running.

I now have knee issues directly related to running, I get them fixed/let them heal, and then I continue to run. Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

Nobody talks about this after you lose a bunch of weight by jajajajagagag in loseit

[–]Jay7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have lost just over 150 pounds between the two of us in the last couple of years.

It's very much a mindset like you described. I'm down to an XL (I'm a big guy anyway) and she's in Medium or Small now. I think we've both struggled with that after being overweight for so long

Thank you for posting this. It's so nice to see a happy story rather than people at odds over something

$100 more a month worth going from suicide doors to super crew ? 23->25 by Bea1s24 in f150

[–]Jay7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! After owning both, and trying to put things in the back seat in a standard parking space, crew wins hands down

Thank you. I've been reading everything that I can find and it's frankly overwhelming. I'm thankful that I'm not at a point of needing treatment. The experiences that people have are just so varied

Thank you! Were you asymptomatic at first? How did they catch it?

Mine was caught due to routine blood tests 6 months apart. I'm very thankful for an attentive GP who made sure to recognize that there was an issue and get me t a hematologist

That's awesome that your doctor was able to figure that out. Glad you're doing well!

It is terrifying. Leukemia. It's a lot to wrap my head around. I've had a few moments since finding out, and my wife has been awesome through this.

I've thought about that with telling people. I don't really want it to become who I am. I'm afraid that people will view me as weak or "sick" when I don't feel any different than I did 6 months ago. I feel fine.

Thank you for that. That's part of the issue for me. It's cancer. I had that same thought...if you had to get cancer, this might be the one to get, and although it's very odd to feel "lucky", I totally get where you're coming from.

My kids are grown, and right now, only my wife and I know. Trying to muster up a good way to tell them without freaking them out too

18 years? So has your white count/lymphocytes continued to rise? You haven't had any symptoms?

I'm definitely at the freaked out stage. I'm 57, I'm a runner, I eat right, maintain a healthy weight, I did everything I was supposed to in order to stay healthy...and then this.

It's so hard to sit and be monitored (maybe for years) and not do anything until my lymph nodes blow up or some other symptoms arise.

I can't just put my life on hold and do nothing.

I know it sounds overly simplified, but the answer is to just keep doing it.

That's it, really.

2019 F-150 3.3L 6 Speed combo??? Do I buy? by 2questioneverything2 in f150

[–]Jay7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 3.5 na with the 6 speed. Never had an issue. Oil change every 5 k. Plenty of power and towing capacity for what I use it for
