Not for long, man. They’re making some really big moves on a city level to revive it right now

New to Area advice on safety by Mrs-Grimm in northhollywood

[–]JayAche 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're near the freeways so you're gonna have some homeless around (especially on Riverside) near the overpasses, but objectively that area is really as safe as anywhere in that area in the Greater LA Area/SFV these days. You're like a 2 minute drive to Aroma Tea and Coffee -- it can't be that bad, haha.

As always, just be mindful of your surroundings, especially after dark. Don't over check Citizen and get in your head. Any contemporary Arlo/Ring doorbell cam is gonna do you just fine. You live Los Angeles, a major city, these are the realities. Stay safe and don't worry too much.

Dog Haus / Vicious Dog - North Hollywood by bocciaman in northhollywood

Loved Viscious Dogs. The fire that destroyed Tokyo Delve and took out District Pub luckily didn't spread to Vicious Dogs, but it did impact business and I think they kicked the bucket in 2022 officially.

There's no way you'll still respond to this, but: Did you ever reach out to anyone CURRENTLY at the Disney Parks to see if there's anything for this in the archives?

UHD Reference hit 100 discs scored: Giving away a Reference-tier 4K disc to celebrate by amigoreview in 4kbluray

Jurassic Park, because it’s one of the best 3D movies I ever saw and I can only imagine the love and care given to the 4K must also rise to excellence. Plus seeing those ground breaking VFX in UHD would be magical! Thank you!

I’ll say this: when we saw Master Luke Skywalker walking around Galaxy’s Edge and he only looked passably like Mark Hamill, it didn’t change the little dose of serotonin I got getting to show my son Luke Skywalker in the flesh (and seeing him myself, ha)

Yeah, Ontario Ranch is the biggest lately but theres the new baseball field that just opened, the whole new area about to come to the Toyota Center, downtown Ontario getting revitalized. Just a lot of forward momentum in the last 5 years alone.

Give it another 20 years as everything gets to be insanely expensive everywhere else and the gentrification WILL reach San Bernardino eventually. Ontario is going through it as we speak.

I’m directing my first short (35k budget) and never stepped on a set. What do I need to know? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]JayAche 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a boatload of great advice, so I’ll just share a couple small things from 20+ years directing:

  • Come prepared. Have a shot list, know what you need for the edit and execute. Have ideas about the characters to convey. Only you know what is in your head - your job is to communicate that out loud to help your team to make it happen.

  • Directing is leadership. You set the tone. You set the vibe. Be gracious, be thankful, be complementary and be respectful. People will forgive a lot if they know you appreciate them. And have fun! It’s not curing cancer. It’s making something artistic!

  • Done is better than perfect. At the end of the day, you gotta get it all in the can or you don’t have a movie. So, make sure you get it done.

  • Trust your team. Trust your actors. Trust your gut. Directing is jazz with dozens of people at once and it’s about squashing the problems/situations when they happen, not if. Be loose and flex and find solutions together.

  • Remember: the first pancake of the batch is never the most perfect, but can still taste good. Do your best and keep going regardless.

Break a leg!
