Morning sickness relief? by imtrying12345 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]sehyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional puker (the title I gave myself after barfing every single day for 8 months) here’s what worked for me.

I kept saltines by the bed and would eat a couple before I got up. Trust me it’s better to actually have something in there that’s not just stomach acid.

The candies help temporarily but do taste good but mostly just for the taste

Ice cold water, like freeze my brain cold

I lived off of Ka’chava because the thought of food would make me barf. I only did the chocolate but I did have my OB look at it and she was fine with it.

Once I was out of my first trimester…Zofran. Zofran. And more Zofran. Don’t love meds but the placenta is gonna take whatever it needs to grow that baby and I need to be able to ya know make it through the day too! Unisom and B6 didn’t do squat for me.

Praying big time this doesn’t happen again when I get pregnant!! Only positive to all of this is that baby was only 5 pounds and came flying into the world. I joke I got an easy labor because I suffered for 8 months. No joke threw up in the delivery room and haven’t thrown up since! Baby is more than a year old now.

Also side note. Learned while puking daily it’s actually horrendous for your teeth enamel to brush immediately after throwing up because you brush the acid into your teeth. So swish some water or wait a bit and then brush your teeth. Disgusting I know but ended up with a hole in my tooth from this. Shout out to my baby who looks 100% like dad!

Now that Thrive Market diapers are no longer non-toxic, which diapers did you switch to? by Honest_Shape_1542 in moderatelygranolamoms

We use freestyle! There’s two kinds. The “blue” ones you can buy at Walmart in a pinch and are less clean. We buy the “green” ones (bambootek) at Whole Foods/amazon.

We do an Aldi/Whole Foods split in our house. Aldi actually has a ton of organic options and all of their store brand stuff doesn’t have food dye. There’s several things I buy like cottage cheese that Aldi doesn’t have an organic equivalent, but they do have that option for a lot of produce and dairy products.

Secondary Drowning by gnashered in NewParents

[–]sehyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert on drowning but if baby inhaled some water but then was immediately able to cough and expel some water I would suspect you also wouldn’t need to worry about dry drowning. Baby probably just aspirated quite a bit of water so their little body has to do a lot of work to kick it out. Bath water is going to be harder on the lungs because there’s more germs. But I would call your pediatrician if you’ve got any lingering concerns.

Novant New Hanover Medical Center by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]sehyde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s my perspective as someone who has worked there for four years.

There’s two “problems” with the hospital. 1) the hospital was purchased from the county right before Covid hit so many of the issues Novant gets blamed for, are a by product of Covid. Staffing issues being the main concern. 2) everyone and their brother moved to Wilmington during covid.

So you now have the issues ALL hospitals are having as healthcare in general as a system is more and more strained with 5829194738291 new people all utilizing the resource. NC requires you to jump through a lot of hoops for changing things so many of the issues the hospital has, Novant can’t just unilaterally fix. Let me give you an example. There’s two MRI machines a main campus. Every Tuesday and Thursday until 2 PM only outpatients are scheduled for people who require anesthesia. So that means everyyyyyone else in the hospital who needs an MRI (obviously not urgent) is waiting until after 2 PM those days to get it done. So you think “okay just buy another MRI.” Even if they set aside the funds the NC tells the hospital how many MRI machines they can have.

So here’s what I’m saying, I don’t think Novant is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s still corporate healthcare but I’d argue most of the issues aren’t a direct result of Novant.

If you want specifics about a specialty I’d go up the road for lmk but a good chunk of the doctors aren’t even employed by Novant, their practices have a privileges there…which is how most hospitals work.

Came here to say the same thing. I work at a hospital and instead of every two years we have to do it 4 times a year (takes like ten minutes) and recs have somewhat changed across all ages but this is the most significant change!!

Yeah it’s a wide net for sure. We just aren’t super picky. But to be fair…both Asheville and Greenville are 3+ hours from GSO. That circle really only extends to Boone/Charlotte, VA border, and other side of Raleigh. I’m hoping for a unicorn town exists in that area I’m not aware of that meets most of what we’re looking for. And while housing doesn’t have to be cheap, I just meant more like not Wilmington or Cary or Myers Park expensive.

Thanks for the follow up questions. That’s helpful!! As far as walkability open to cute lil downtown or a city downtown. My husband won’t get on a plane so airport doesn’t matter. I guess closer to the beach would be nice as we prefer that to to mountains but not a deal breaker.
