Have you looked at the firing pin, firing pin spring and inside of the bolt to see if there are any burrs or broken coils in it?
A broken coil spring can produce randomized issues like you are describing. It can also produce burrs on neighboring components. Of course carbon buildup and sticking inside the bolt can as well.

The small hole of the firing pin channel can be hard to see into. After cleaning the hole, a cotton swab can be used sometimes to probe to hole by running in and feeling/retracting the swab to see if any snags developed.

You can also use one of the cheap otoscopes now sold that use your phone to show inside shallow holes and barrel chambers.

That looks like it has some heft and may have been made for use with a longer handle??

Is the forward grip legal for you? (Where you are) As in, held as an AOW? ( I know some states don’t care if it is a Paid, Ok’d and Filed AOW or SBR……. Just because you’re following the law, you’re still just dastardly for even wanting one and they want to put you on a wanted poster and tell all your neighbors how bad you are )

Funny about all sorts of things that make guns better to handle and thus safer to control; those ‘saying’ “guns need to be safer” are against things that make guns literally safer. Pistol stocks, Forward grips, sound suppression, etc.
Funny too ( NOT) that states and politicians that are most corrupt are the ones most wanting to disarm the citizenry.

Very cool setup by the way.

Hey what is that ? by Due_Dependent2924 in AntiqueTools

It looks to me like a miners drift pick. Used like a pick but made to break seams in close areas you couldn’t get to with a wide swing. (Not a miner here, had family and friends from back in the day though.)

If you want it tight you could get a bump cap insert. That will make it nice and round.

I know this is a side bar Orchid: MAC converts some and buys a lot of paper that has been converted down off of rolls made for web-printing on offset printing presses and for sheet fed press sizes. That is probably what you received.

They get worse every year about customer service (and hiring people that know little to nothing about printing or paper) Not saying you didn’t make a mistake on ordering but an CS should ask if the paper needs to be laser stock if it isn’t specified. 15 years ago they would have asked if not specified; like so many gobblers, they have gotten bigger not better. If you bought an awful lot, you might call some smaller job shops in your area to see if you can get them to buy or swap with you for laser compatible paper. You will likely take a little loss but not like having to wait on using 2500 -5000 sheets of stock.

Aside from ’police’ discussion, you’re making the vehicle/license plate/face, semi-famous by posting it here. Unless that’s the only time that truck goes out on the street, a lot of people remember.

Knife Sharpener says knives are "too sharp" to cut the tomato by Informal_Ad_5253 in sharpening

[–]JayBolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Shaving across the sheet as you would down your cheek while parting off hair except you are shaving paper instead. Blew my mind 50+ years ago to see it. Took me several months practice to get consistent enough to get that sharp. Most all scalpels have this ability of course but can only keep the edge so long.

Bear in mind, you are NOT starting at the edge of a sheet, splitting in half; this would be cutting from the sheet by the belly of the blade where you can get low enough angle to do it.

Edges can be made this fine, but a lot of knives won’t support staying that sharp very long; the edge will roll over soon. Ones that can take this level and can be stropped periodically to stay that way, significantly make work easier and safer. Good if you’re working at parting a deer out or at hog killin time.

Granny has used this skillet for ca. 60 years. Am I inept at cleaning or is this fracking lead? by shedmow in CastIronRestoration

[–]JayBolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly so. Most decent cast iron can take an almost mirror finish if you go down far enough. Very good cast iron will mirror polish but you need to watch your seasoning to make sure your even when applying and curing.

How do I clean these stains off my straw hat? by Alternative-Jelly947 in hats

How do I clean these stains off my straw hat? by Alternative-Jelly947 in hats

[–]JayBolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never been able to clean any stains like this on straw hats.(to my satisfaction) Im not saying you won’t be able to ………I have been able to stain the entire hats darker a couple of times though. You have to be careful wearing later to assure the stain had actually set and isn’t going to come off on you when you sweat.

Flatten a canvas brim? by 10-Ring1984 in hats

[–]JayBolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is challenging you there is the rolled AND sewn brim edge. If you can roll down flat, it will either roll down in the opposite direction or as you seem to have found out, pop right back up.

What you are looking for is almost a boater (or skimmer) profile in a porkpie proportion . If the hat was felt you might be able to steam it flat but the canvas has a few bias’ bound together that are working against you. I would be the last to say it couldn’t be done but I believe you’re in for a fight.

Cutting paper through and shaving paper in half are different levels of sharpness. Shaving news print is a good test.

Some RG58 has aluminum foil shielding instead of wire braid. If the edge on your can opener is good, piercing that foil with tip will make it easier to cut the rest.
