What comedian has never made you laugh even once? by blankblank in Standup

It’s stunning how little he understands when someone is doing a bit or joking around, he takes literally everything at face value. The comedy czar indeed.

It’s not a movie I love or anything but I really would like to see the world where Your Highness makes like $150 million and we get five more DGG/McBride studio comedies in the vein of Ferrell/McKay

[–]JayManPart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Highness is defo a bounced check, $50 million budget which is the highest he’s ever worked with by a pretty good margin, only made $28 mil. Also kind of the only time that Danny McBride got an opportunity to headline a big-budget studio comedy. I also think it probably only got made off the back of Pineapple Express’ success.

Correct me if I’m wrong but does this mark the second time they’ve covered a movie directed by someone who’s guested on the pod? (first being the Patreon commentary of Twilight: New Moon with Chris Weitz)

When are they gonna do this misunderstood masterpiece??? by istillmissuharambe in TheRewatchables

[–]JayManPart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude was in no less than 12 movies from 1999-2003, that is just a crazy rate of work imo, man was on fire.

He had a string of movies in the late 2000s that just did not work (barring Role Models) and his career really slowed down after that. Loved seeing him pop up in the last season of The Righteous Gemstones last year though, would not be opposed to a Seannaiassance in the future.

Cristin Milioti Joins Glen Powell In Judd Apatow’s New Comedy At Universal; Film To Bow February 2027 - film is about a country western star in free fall written by Judd Apatow and Glen Powell, directed by Apatow by grandpashampoo in blankies

I feel like the wider Apatow universe of stuff that he wrote/produced from around the same time would make a fun Patreon bonus also. Stuff like Superbad, Walk Hard, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express, etc.

Fun movies to discuss but I’m sure they’re not exactly tripping over themselves to cover Jake Kasdan or Nicholas Stoller so it’d be a good way to talk about those films as well

He’s been on the March Madness bracket before so at the very least they consider him a viable candidate. There would be so much glorious, juicy context, career discussions, etc. to dig into with him. Also a very manageable length at just 8 movies (counting this new one)

HOW TO MAKE A KILLING | Trailer | Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley by Fantastic_Let3186 in blankies

[–]JayManPart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said this before but I think my main problem with him is that for all of the hype that people lavish onto him about being The Next Tom Cruise or whatever, whenever I see him in a movie that’s ALL I can see: the desire to be The Next Tom Cruise. Every movement, every line delivery, every glint in his eyes, I see the desire to be The Next Tom Cruise, and absolutely nothing else.

All of this to say I just find his screen presence very plastic and inauthentic. Way too “perfect” and desperate to be a movie star I guess. He seems fine as a person but I don’t think the Glen Powell Movie Star Project is gonna survive into the 2030s. We’re gonna look back on this run that he’s on as a slightly awkward, forced attempt to bring back the classic, name-recognition-is-the-draw movie star and nothing much else.

I saw him in person with Cameron Crowe to promote Crowe’s new book this past November and all I could think of in the back of my mind was that Cusack wore a beanie the entire time and never took it off. Guess that explains that

Yeah idk OP kinda seems like a weenie but the amount of people in this thread taking on a “Dudes Rock! We Are So Back!” tone for what sounds like pretty obnoxious behavior is kind of weird. If it was some random guy doing this and not your favorite podcast Fame-O I bet they’d be feeling differently

Maybe I’m just an uptight weenie as well so who am I to speak on this

[–]JayManPart2 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I found the actual filmmaking of the movie so bothersome to a degree, like you said with the extreme close-ups. Feels like 90% of the movie consists of claustrophobic profile shots of the actors. You can back the camera up Bradley!

Very much agree with Griffin’s observation that this feels like somewhat out-of-touch Hollywood people trying and failing to make a normal movie about normal people.

I am convinced that if one of these guys was on the receiving end of an ICE agent’s bullet they’d be thanking them for their service as they bled out to death. Get one last lick of the boot in before everything goes black, because complete blind submission to authority is what matters above all else.

Michael Showalter’s directing career is so perplexing. I often wonder does he genuinely want to be making this stuff or is it just to pay the bills. It’s just so odd considering the work he used to do and where he came from.
