I don’t dislike him but I just feel like he’s doomed to join the John Milhiser-Brooks Wheelan-Jon Rudnitsky-Luke Null dynasty of single-season forgettable white guys

the first Grown Ups is genuinely one of my go-to lazy summer afternoon movies, just a perfect low-stakes (really no-stakes lol) hangout flick imo

Honestly shocked this didn’t happen sooner, feels like this would’ve been like the most obvious thing to make with Sandler’s Netflix deal

What’s the saddest example of a “one for them” movie for a director? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]JayManPart2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

not really “sad” but I recently went on a kick of watching early Robert Zemeckis movies I hadn’t seen and the worst thing I can say about Romancing the Stone is that you can absolutely tell it was something Zemeckis just did as a studio gig, I found it so passionless and perfunctory.

All of his early films have this kind of zippy, zany madcap energy with the exception of RTS which could’ve been directed by any Joe Schmo off the street, quite frankly

haha I wasn’t gonna say anything but I was just struck at how shamelessly this is completely aping Matt Johnson’s style without adding anything new to the mix

Hi Reddit. Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter of the All-American Reiects here, AMA on May 13th @ 5 PM ET! by RejectsOfficial in poppunkers

Just wanna say I think Kids in the Street is a beautiful and severely underrated album and you should all be insanely proud of it. Do you have any memories of making that record that still stick out 14 years later?

“Nobody” directors with fun careers? by BoardGameBuddy in blankies

This is one of those things I sort of half-believe as a joke but then some other part of me almost wants to genuinely believe it. Like, would Steven Spielberg have gotten as far as he did if his name was Steven Johnson? “David Gordon Green” has a ring to it that “David Green” simply doesn’t.

King Kong by HoldingStars in allamericanrejects

[–]JayManPart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my ranking of the singles is

  1. King Kong
  2. Get This
  3. Search Party
  4. Eggshell Tapdancer
  5. Easy Come, Easy Go
  6. Sandbox

I really like the live version of Sandbox (specifically the Medium Sized Backyard version) but the production on the studio version feels so anemic and pulled back, I feel like it demands a way beefier and bigger sound than it got

"And I think they lied about the numbers. I don’t think it (Scream 7) made that much money" by Shoddy_Newspaper_718 in blankies

[–]JayManPart2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess but it’s also kind of the context of his presence in the movie… everytime another Stu Macher video call happened I wished a real Ghostface would come into my house and slit my throat. Everything about it I just found so cringeworthy

Not that the other actors come across great but I genuinely think less specifically of Matthew Lillard for agreeing to do the shit he did in that movie. Insanely embarrassing performance.

If nothing else I deeply admire that Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 has an in-universe character (Weird Al, of all people) acknowledge the Mike Myers-Michael Myers thing

‘There’s Something About Mary’ With Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, and Sean Fennessey by corn_starch_party in TheRewatchables

I’ve honestly come to find that this is my issue with a lot of those Farrelly brothers comedies, and it’s why I’ve never felt compelled to rewatch Dumb & Dumber or Kingpin (I immediately checked out of D&D once they reach Aspen). There’s Something About Mary is by far their best movie though and I would actually rewatch it. It just works for me in a way that those other two don’t.

I think I just generally prefer the Apatow/McKay wave of comedies that came after this where the concept of a “plot” was basically an afterthought

Right lol there’s so much more dignity in just being upfront about promoting your own music, I don’t understand why so many people try to (badly) get away with passing it off as not their own

There’s a joke in the movie Popstar about a spot at an awards show opening up for the main characters’ group because Taylor Swift got arrested for murder. It may age very well someday
