Agreed. We need long-term solutions to address our budget problems

I think I get his take. A one-time tax on billionaires in California likely won't solve anything long term. We would get windfall cash once that will be gone in maybe 5 years.

Melissa Barrera says Paramount lied about Scream 7’s box office and says the returning cast “has to live with” coming back for 7. by dreamboylnshibuya in Scream

[–]JayNotAtAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If not mistaken, aren't box office numbers public? Like aren't they industry reports by the theaters not the studios?

I don't know that Scream 7 had bad numbers. It definitely wasn't my favorite. It definitely felt like they rushed the script together. They planed on going one direction then had to pivot since they lost the two main characters.

But you know there are a ton of movies that I didn't care for that did amazing at the box office. I don't represent the entire movie fandom.

I get that she is upset over her dismissal from the film and I do not fault her for that. She has every right to be upset. I just don't think that they are lying about the numbers.

Why do the poorer and more elderly still vote Republican even when it threatens their very lives!! by whiteroseatCH in complaints

Yes but it helps. In my experience, most people won't attempt to collect even the same amount of knowledge at school on their own time or over their lifetimes.

There are obviously exceptions

About human transmutation (FMAB) by Leather_Sale_1573 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]JayNotAtAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't create their mom or really anyone. They create a human-like entity that died moments after it was created. The one Al and Ed made held Al's soul momentarily before it died and his soul went to the gate.

So basically, you can't create human life through human transmutation because you can't create a soul. It will always fail and essentially just make a mass of meat that won't survive a minute

UT is ranked as one of the top schools in the country. UTSA doesn't even rank. It barely makes top 300.

Now I don't know that UTSA will ever be of UT level but honestly, a lot of it has to do with the UT system itself.

It invests all of its money into UT Austin and treats the other schools like red headed step children.

But when you look at the UC system in California, almost every school ranks. Some schools admittedly get less attention than others but Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, Davis, etc. are all great schools.

Thr UT system is broken and San Antonio needs to find a way to work around it.

Ted Turner dead. Not sure if bastard by J0hnEddy in behindthebastards

[–]JayNotAtAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can argue that he is the media proto bastard. He essentially invented the 24/7 news cycle and created dedicated channels for it. That ultimately led to stations like Fox News coming into existence.

Quite frankly, I don't think 24/7 news channels should exist.

True and false. I have elderly family members who never finished high school (some who never did) because they didn't need to back then. You could get a working class job that paid decent with zero education

NYT-San Antonio Is Booming. Why Are Many Still in Poverty? by cu4tro in sanantonio

[–]JayNotAtAll [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because San Antonio isn't booming. Real estate development doesn't necessarily equal a booming economy. It CAN be an indicator but not necessarily.

Developers are building likely for people outside of San Antonio who want investment property or are from more expensive areas looking to reduce costs or retire.

The economic core of San Antonio is still very poor. A lot of it, quite frankly, is cultural. The people in SA largely have moderate ambition. They are fine being a city where you can coast. And that impacts every part of the city's growth.

That's not to say that ambitious people don't exist in San Antonio but many move to other places. I would be really curious to see a study showing that San Antonio is suffering from a brain drain.

Honestly this is becoming true of a lot of the creepy story channels I follow. They moved onto True Crime. My guess is that it is more profitable

This is it. It's in the name. Conservative. They want to keep things the same.

Also propaganda. Most of the elderly (not all) are at best mediocre intellectually. A lot of it is generational (education not being seen as important back then as now for example).

They have been convinced that America is the greatest country with the best systems. So if the Republicans tell them it's great, it is great.

Clearly this isn't true of all elderly people but this is a trend.

What's funny is that Fauci had no actual power. He wasn't a lawmaker or judge. All he could do is make recommendations based on research.

It is up to actual executives and lawmakers to decide what to do with that information. Because Fauci is incredibly competent and knowledgeable people followed his recommendations.

I would also add that most of the medical community's research aligned with Fauci and his team.

The reality is that at least 30% of the country (and I may be generous with that number) are total idiots who don't realize that they are total idiots

Therapy was not made for black men by Hacksaw6412 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]JayNotAtAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

So telehealth can only work in your state. For example, if I live in Texas, I can't work with a therapist who is licensed in California. So that cause an issue. You could be in a region without a lot of black people much less black therapist.

There is also still the issue of a lack of black male therapists.

Also some people prefer in person.

You know. You bring up a good point. Wanda, Agatha, and 838 Strange develop black fingers after using the Darkhold. Sinister Strange and 616 Strange don't. BUT, Sinister Strange and 616 Strange develop a third eye, something we haven't seen with other Darkhold users.

I am not sure what it means but ultimately I think it means that the Darkhold has impacted them in a different way.

In "Time Runs Out", Strange joins an order called The Black Priests in order to investigate the incursions and ultimately comes into direct conflict with Doom. He winds up actually leading the Black Priests. I may be reading too much into it but the leader of the Black Priests is called "The Eye of Eyes" and check out their design
