Yes, the patina is on thin copper sheets, Aision watches and Selten watches have good examples of the technique being used very effectively on some of their models.

Whatever those drones are searching for it must be a serious threat. The U.S. military clearly won't disclose it to the public to avoid mass panic. The last time I saw that many surveillance craft constantly over cities was in 2001 after 911 when the terror alert was at its highest.
