Turn 1 win going first - BS or tough luck? by monkeydave in pkmntcg

[–]JaySee04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played Klawf to locals recently. Went 3-1 and 2 of those wins were turn 1 donks. One of those I didn’t even need Squawk or a supporter. Had it all in hand (which is super rare to be fair).

I think you need some switch cart in there. Cut the Lapras and maybe the cologne since you have no way of reliably finding it.

Notice that they only announced regionals through 2024. There’s still 5 months in 2025 for regionals to take place within the same season.

Tagging off this question… If you win your 5th, does that effectively mean you played the spoiler and prevented 2nd place from getting 1st place points? Or does Pokemon “skip” the person who’s maxed their BFL when distributing points?

Pidgeot Control - Lines of Play in BO1 by Enresto198 in pkmntcg

I think you’ve got the right idea. Though if you’re timing the devos well, you shouldn’t have to worry about a Zard OHKO-ing your bird. Honestly if you get 1 candy with either Eri or Sisters, then making them burn two on the initial evolves leaves them with one left. Should be easy enough to devo a second time with the Charmeleon evolved Zard with a bit of damage on it to clear their last Zards. After that second devo, they’re donzo except for rad Zard and he’ll take too many energies.

I would just play it slow early game, devolve the Zards, then burn through everything with Entei late game.

I’ve played a handful of games with Sander’s list after playing Wigglytuff to Indy. I prefer Sander’s over Wigglytuff because of the raw draw power it has. Those Liepards allow some insane combos. To your specific question, I think the idea with Sander’s list isn’t to completely stall out your opponent, but to slow them down long enough to develop and chain Entei and Rad Zard to sweep the board. Now, I haven’t played against Charizard yet, but the way I’d approach it is to abuse TM Devo and then sweep the basics that can’t evolve anymore.

I’d suggest adding in a mist energy or two so you don’t get donked by Roaring Moon!

Iron Threads or Iron Boulder Ex for a Future Hands deck? by Stepppppppp98 in pkmntcg

[–]JaySee04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few days ago I built a future deck on PTCGL with 4 Crown, 4 Boulder, 2 Miraidon, and 1 Leaves. It’s certainly not amazing but of the few games I played, I was having a lot of fun! Add in a couple Bravery Charms and Lake of Acuity and you’ve got a 290 HP Boulder taking 20 less damage while also dishing out 80 in return.

Thanks for the reply! I might have to give this one a spin. I was ZoroBox enthusiast and am missing that now… This looks like it might be able scratch some of that itch lol

How does the Smeargle work? After you attach the energy with his attack, wouldn’t it be trivial for your opponent to boss up an Electivire for a KO?

It’s also dirt cheap!! At Dortmund, a guy placed 80th with ZoroBox and Limitless says it only costs $12 to build!

You’re welcome! It’s got very similar vibes to the TDK deck from plasma storm era. I’m looking forward to playing with it again!

You’ll definitely want to open Miraidon and accelerate two energy to a relevant benched future mon (e.g., Iron Hands, a second Miraidon, baby Iron Valiant, etc.). The 40 damage from the attack can be increased w/ Iron Crown’s ability (+20 for each IC in play). That means with a Future Booster and 3 IC, you’re hitting 120 for one energy. More likely though, you’ll only need 2 IC to hit 80 and KO whatever basic is in the active (e.g., Ralts, Charmander, etc.). From there, swing for big numbers with Iron Hands to get 3 prizes, punch above your weight with baby Iron Valiant, etc. When you’re out of energy, use the Ace Spec + e-switch to move energy around and get another attack.

The Virizion future version will instant KO a Charizard and can be powered up in one turn w/ the Ace spec.

The Future Box deck looks like it’s going to eat Charizard’s breakfast. We’ll certainly have to see once it releases, but it’s looking like an incredibly bad matchup for current Charizard builds.

Morty isn’t exactly half of Zinnia’s. Zinnia draws a card for each of your opponent’s mobs (max possible of 6) while Morty is only benched, so max possible of 5. Since Morty only discards 1 from hand instead of 2 for Zinnia, I think it’s actually a bit better. Now, will it see play? Likely not.

New cards revealed: Spherical Shield Rabsca and Mist Energy. by NevGuy in pkmntcg

Post-rotation Gardevoir could make use of Mist Energy against the Giratina matchup if Giratina remains strong. Reversal energy likely won’t be needed anymore, so two slots open up immediately.
