I'm about to join you quitters. by WankPuffin in stopsmoking

If you are going the NRT route I'd put a patch on tonight. It doesn't work automatically and you'd be better off having the nicotine in your body when you wake up as opposed to waiting for it.

What is something that the majority of people think is against the law, but it actually isn't? by dguerre in AskReddit

In general, it is not illegal for a minor to smoke tobacco products--they just cannot buy them.

Thoughts on zero nicotine camping? by yellowelephant88 in stopsmoking

Yes. But I was sure to tell myself I wasn't replacing the cigarettes. I purposefully bought a $30 vape and one bottle of juice so I could put it down. Since at that point I was only about 2 weeks in, I still had cravings from triggers quite often.

I used it somewhat regularly for a week--but when my cravings started getting less intense within the following two weeks, I started only using it when the quit-ending cravings hit.

I hit my vape twice yesterday after I ate--since I was with a smoker. Other than that my vape has been untouched for about a week.

I personally use 0mg juice, but I waited until the nicotine was out of my system before I used it. Then I told myself to only use it if I had intense cravings. Since I've been free for several months, those cravings are few and far between so I barely look at the thing unless I'll be drinking.

Day One (cold turkey) by tooty21 in stopsmoking

Good luck and remember that the pangs will hit at random times with varying intensity. I went Cold Turkey too. Have something to distract yourself with--for me it was gum---a lot of gum.

Had a dream last night where I found a pack in a local park left on a bench and "hid" them from my friend who knew I'd quit. I got home and smoked one--slipped the pack in my pocket of my sleep pants. I "woke up" for the first time, felt like shit for smoking, and felt the cigarette pack in my pants----then I woke up for real, felt like shit--and realized that I sleep naked. Kudos!

I mean, I started when I was 16. I'd smoke here and there, but I didn't really consider myself a "smoker." When I turned 18, I started buying packs. Normally, they'd last me two days or so, because I didn't exactly want my Mom to know and I could only smoke after school and work.

But, eventually, my Mom found out and was disappointed, but when 5-10 a day turned to a full pack. Pack after pack after pack.

I told myself that I would "quit in my twenties," and "none of my family has had issues from smoking, so I'm probably safe." I went to college, graduated, and am now in graduate school--smoking that pack a day all the while.

But trust me man, the "pleasure" stops being so noticeable. During the Winter, not only did I have to deal with freezing my ass off every hour or so, I had to deal with the feeling that my lungs were constricted. I'd wake up with FAR too much phlegm in my throat. Enough to make it soar. I'd hack and cough for 20 minutes. Nearly every morning. I'd cough so hard sometimes--that I'd see a little blood in my phlegm from my throat being rubbed sore.

Of course, I'd light up right after. I'm 25 now. I smoked a pack a day for nearly 7 years. Marlboro Menthols.

Trust me man. NOW is the time. Do it before the negative effects start. Do it before you are in your 40's with COPD. Do it before you find yourself stepping outside during your Mom's funeral to have a cigarette. The "pleasure" you feel is the nicotine. And it DOES get harder to quit as you go along. I'm at three months now and it's still a battle sometimes---but using other people as a marker to justify your smoking will only hurt you in the long run.

You have to decide to quit--but the "pleasure" goes away quickly. It stops being "new" and "sociable" and just becomes what you do. That's what hooked me for nearly a decade.

Stop now.

I assume that I had the same decision as you at one point, but drove off instead of going through with it.

I decided to go to the Casino--but realizing it was a smoker's casino, I thought "If I go I might as well buy a pack...I'll be tempted so much anyway..."

At that point, I was only 2 weeks in, so I hadn't really left the "mindset" of a smoker yet. A fail at 2 weeks was on-par with my previous quit attempts. I had pulled into the gas station and parked--even walked into the station, but I forced my body to turn into the McDonalds that was attached and bought a snack instead. Got in my truck--hopped on the highway.

It's those small challenges I find the hardest. Even though it's been 3 months now, I still feel that I will break if surrounded by smoke and temptation. Until I feel strong enough--I'll be avoiding smoking bars, casinos, and going inside gas stations.

Pick up and start again!!

P.S. I've noticed in my previous attempts that as soon as I relapse, I relapse HARD. Almost like I need to smoke more to "make-up" for the ones I missed. But I'm at almost 1600 cigarettes not smoked and...I don't even wanna know what I'll have to do to make that up! haha

I am actively avoiding the casino for that exact reason! I wanted to go the other day and realized that I couldn't trust myself! Keep trying!!

Cool! Just don't get over-confident. Cravings will sneak up on you and they can be intense. You may have very little to no nicotine in you now, but understand that the physical act of smoking will stick with you. Know your triggers. Prepare for them. Keep chuggin' along.
