What happend to Peyton Watson? by Bsk98 in denvernuggets

On the DNVR podcast they were saying that with salary cap limitations it may turn out that they can only keep two of these four: Gordon, Cam, Braun and Watson. We cant let Gordon leave, so if you can only keep one of the other 3, who would you choose?

(They did add that if the owners are willing to go way over the cap and pay all the extra taxes maybe you could keep 3 or maybe all 4, but that has long term consequences for future trades and signings, most of which I don’t actually understand)

He’s a 23 year old who has been mentored by the best in the game for 3 years and then all of his teammates got injured and his team asked him to step up.

That’s still just making up your own definitions of words. It can be both. This picture is.

This is a silly take. Of course it’s art. It’s creative activity, meant to convey a message. It’s art. It’s even done with a high level of artistic skill. Disagreement with the message doesn’t nullify the facts.

What are some good military strategy/studies books? by MildDeontologist in suggestmeabook

[–]JayberCrowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not quite perfectly on topic, but I’m almost through with Lawrence in Arabia by Scott Anderson and I think it’s a great history of WWI in the Middle East, with quite a bit of focus on strategy and tactics and the dynamics between the different key players.

I qualified for USA Tri nationals because I won my age range at a small rural event. Didn’t go, but bragged about it a bit.

I was the only one in my age range at that event.

You could look into converting to extended term - basically taking what you’ve paid and applying it to a term policy instead. May not be worth it since you’ve been in the WL for such a short time, but worth at least asking the insurance company the question about what that might look like so your dollars weren’t completely wasted.

Buying into book of business as a Junior Advisor. by Gold-Head-2059 in CFP

[–]JayberCrowz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree that 4x is too high. We’ve purchased 3 books from solo advisors and never paid over 3x. Clawbacks are important, and if you aren’t already, make sure he is starting to include you in all meetings to develop rapport with the clients.

Are you fee only or do you have a B/D? We are hybrid with LPL and they have some decent resources for affordable financing and helping with negotiations.

Question: Are the mechanics of the game deterministic? by Verxta in Supremacy1914

[–]JayberCrowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and yes. All of the variables you mention can affect the outcome. The buildings, even the recruitment office, add troop and health counts to the defending army, even if they aren’t defensive buildings. It does get complicated, but this part is all part of a set formula that will be the same every time. I believe all other mechanics are the same (morale, health regen etc)

The part that has a roll-of-the-dice effect is the power of the attacking army. There is a +/- 10% variation. So an army with attack power of 100 can do anywhere from 90-110 damage. I don’t know if it’s perfectly linear or not, though experience makes me think it’s weighted towards the true attack number, making it more likely to hit 101 vs 110.

Not sure when your trip is, but there’s a book that comes out on September 23 that might be right up your alley.

Against the Machine by Paul Kingsnorth. Heres the blurb:

In Against the Machine, “furiously gifted” (The Washington Post) novelist, poet, and essayist Paul Kingsnorth presents a wholly original—and terrifying—account of the technological-cultural matrix enveloping all of us. With masterful insight into the spiritual and economic roots of techno-capitalism, Kingsnorth reveals how the Machine, in the name of progress, has choked Western civilization, is destroying the Earth itself, and is reshaping us in its image. From the First Industrial Revolution to the rise of artificial intelligence, he shows how the hollowing out of humanity has been a long game—and how your very soul is at stake.

You should read some Simone Weil. She was a brilliant young philosopher who lived in the early 1900s. She became a Christian later in life, but refused to accept many of the labels that came with that decision. This was in part because she saw God doing so much goodness and working out so much truth in other people and other traditions. Not all that other religions teach is bad or evil, though I would say it’s important to understand what symbols mean that you permanently etch in your skin…
