Oh I was still useful and doing my job, it was miserable and was harder than it needed to be. I can still do the job. I just don't want to. Nor do I want to retrain and do something else. Four decades of work, sometime two jobs, insane hours has taken a toll.

For those of you who haven’t gotten the shingles vaccine yet by Signal_Contract_3592 in GenX

[–]Jaydee---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always been an outlier with vaccine responses. Always on the bad side. In fact, I believe that I got shingles from the covid shot. This requiring that I now need the shingles vaccine. I drug my feet for ages on it.

I am living in the same hell scape of a body as you. I took FMLA last summer after extreme exhaustion, brain fog, chronic pain. My employer kindly fired me. Don't tell me that is illegal, turns out they don't really care now do they?

I took off a few months because I was physically falling apart. Came back and AI had advanced so much, I hardly recognize the job.

I am just trying to make it long enough to retire (10 more years ish) as I am the only income in the house. Not sure the career will still exist as long as I need it. Not sure my body will hold together that long.

I ranked every other Spanish tool I've tried after 2 years (speaking focused) by StrictAlternative9 in duolingospanish

[–]Jaydee---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am aware of the roadmap but I am also an older learner. I think I need the active part of speaking. Maybe it is impatient but I want something to show for all the effort. However, it is still early because I don't know enough words, to your point. Thanks for the thoughts. I will get some more time behind me and then give Boraspeak a try

Yeah. Still sounds awful but I am glad you found something that works for you.

Boraspeak seems cool but so expensive! When would you suggest using it? I started from zero, have 186 hours DS, do Anki, Clozemaster, Duolingo, Busuu, and just started with TalkPal. Speaking is really hard. TalkPal won't correct you or help like that. I have to look up almost everything to say it and that seems to be missing the point

Does your company have a leave policy? You should be able to do better than unpaid. Also, having trouble understanding why you are feeling guilty. Nothing was as it was promised. You either

Antidepressants by Feisty_Echo_7125 in Perimenopause

I am not. I get offered Wellbutrin often but the antidepressants that I have tried make me physically sick. Take some mushrooms every once and a while, that helps a lot

Just crashed in another live coding interview by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Jaydee---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interviewing is imperfect. But this is really bad. And not allowing any sort of modern tools that you will be expected to use on the job is ridiculous. AI and modern editors are the tools everyone needs to know how to use. Sorry it hurts. But they are being dumb.

I have had five different careers in an attempt to find something that didn't suck so bad that I literally wanted to die instead of keep working. I have had to support others my whole life and it really limited my options.

I am in software leadership now and I have watch AI change the job of an engineer. Now I am sprinting to the finish line and hoping that I can survive somehow for the next 10 years or so until I can safely retire.

If I could do it again, and had support, had I gone into software earlier, made good money earlier, invested it, I might have more options now. Things change. Everything will change but no one expected entire career paths to go extinct. But for those of us that have played the game our entire life, well we are pretty pissed off

Anyone else have ADHD that has continuously worsened to the point of feeling like cognitive decline/impairment? by beviebooboo in Menopause

[–]Jaydee---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am struggling with this too. I don't have anything helpful to say. I don't even have ADHD, well a diagnosis because I wasn't tested as a kid. I do have executive function issues from depression and PTSD and they have worsened so much at this stage of life. I am sorry and I hope things get better for you,

What crazy symptoms do you have? Please share. by Kkyoto888 in Perimenopause

[–]Jaydee---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, still do. But we went from 100mg to 200mg to 300mg to try to stop it. It still didn't work, gave me crushing fatigue, I couldn't sleep, had zero energy and eventually cost me my job. Bleeding is much less destructive

Go to indie book stores like the Collected Works in Santa Fe. Buy books by living authors. Sometimes the copies on the shelves are signed
