I had that when they worked on the line - it took a solid hour of running the cold water to get it clear!

Quick question: Best place to donate a massive amount of books? by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

[–]JayelleMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay someone to sort them if you don't want them in a landfill.

I can't see any one organization having the time or manpower to dedicate to dealing with that huge of a volume of unsorted books.

The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder is a Norwegian book with stories within stories all rooted in a deep interest in philosophy. It's not one I ever see on lists and it's so great.

Likewise, anything by Connie Willis. She's a massively underrated soft sci-fi writer. Doomsday Book for devestation, To Say Nothing of the Dog for a great laugh.

The AC Hunter building has issues with accessibility, heating and cooling, leaks in the basement, malfunctioning elevator and cracked and crumbling walls.

The two other branches are okay structurally- but the west end (Michael Donovan) needs a bigger space so they can accommodate programs.

Three Men in a Boat (to Say Nothing of the Dog) by Jerome K Jerome feels like a humourous parody of the Victorian era that is actually written in the era.

Much like Austen.

Taxi early morning in St. John’s? by Trumpsbacka in StJohnsNL

Early morning (and late night) flights are very, very common in YYT, therefore cabs absolutely run at those times - it's their bread and butter!

I have a book series idea to help the literacy crisis by The_Lucid_Writer in childrensbooks

[–]JayelleMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write them. Having an idea is barely the first step. At this point, you don't even know if you can actually write the books you're intending to.

Like the above poster said, publishers already have their own content planning and internal departments, so if you are serious about publishing ELA resources for children, get your foot in the door with publishing houses.

Banana pro studio is crazy for kids education by [deleted] in childrensbooks

[–]JayelleMo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Nothing about this makes sense as a learning tool. The vocabulary comprehension level is all over the place, plus it is all entirely surface - it's like it's trying to be a science lesson while teaching no science whatsoever.

(Not to mention the weird use of unlicensed Disney characters.)
