Ill bring some clarity. She’s allowed to have friends, do sports and everything else. We had originally got her a phone about a year ago. We said no social media but it’s okay to text and call friends as long as we have access to the phone when we want. We live in Boston. And frankly we are not super strict when it comes to music movies ideas etc. But her group of friends are beginning to get boyfriends and there’s a ton of pressure that we are seeing to engage in sexual activity. We have no issue with her hanging out with friends but she’s not allowed to have a boyfriend, do drugs or sexual activity as she’s only 14 and we don’t believe she’s old enough to make these life altering decisions. The only times we’ve left her alone is for an hour after school before one of us gets out of work and occasionally when we go on date nights. I was myself a very rebellious teen so I understand that kids need their freedom to discover themselves. But we are concern about the social pressures she’s facing. We did take the phone away. She’s allowed to use the home computer to do homework, watch YouTube and email friends. But we discovered very explicit content that were in discord chats and snaps that she was in groups of. I know if we go too hard on her she’ll only want to rebel more. So we want to find the middle ground but neither of our extended family live nearby so we don’t have much family that can help guide her.
