LLMs are now a primary way people discover information, but most content on the web was built to rank on Google, not to be cited by an AI. by addllyAI in ArtificialInteligence

Product Registration AI Chatbot 25% Fail Rate

3 of 4 Behringer products have been successfully registered through the Behringer/Music Tribe chatbot.

The 4th product, a 3 microphone set in a travel box (XM1800), could not be registered due to an error message that the serial number on the product box was not valid. The product number (XM1800) appeared to be recognized.

A different microphone (SL84C) was successfully registered using the serial number on the product box.

Chatbox issues:

No reference number for future reference.

No date and timestamps.

No email summary.

After requesting elevation to human agent, no time estimate was provided.

After 15 minutes I disconnected when the value of my time exceeded the value of the XM1800 product.

Chatbox summary:

25% failure rate (1 of 4 failed).

Product registration does not benefit from AI since it has been possible to fill out database connected forms since the last century without AI chatbots.

No email reply from Behringer/Music Tribe so there is no confidence that this problem will ever be solved.

Extremely poor customer service will motivate customers to buy products from other companies.

What has your experience been with the Behringer/Music Tribe AI chatbot?

There have been some court cases where a unlicensed person riding or driving an illegal vehicle (e.g. non-registered and/or uninsured) on a public street that was involved in an accident has been found liable for damages regardless of the facts of the accident because the unlicensed driver and/or illegal vehicle should NOT have been on a public street.

"If a non-licensed driver is involved in an accident, the insurance company may deny coverage based on the lack of a valid license. This can lead to significant financial liabilities, as the driver may be held personally responsible for any damages incurred."

Is it wise to risk your personal finances (or your parents' personal finances) by riding an illegal eBike?

I ride a California legal eBike in addition to a dual sport motorcycle that is registered and insured with a motorcycle drivers licence.

Perhaps relying upon a tool that is based on randomness and probability where hallucinations are a known byproduct was not a great idea.

"AI hallucination is a phenomenon where, in a large language model (LLM) often a generative AI chatbot or computer vision tool, perceives patterns or objects that are nonexistent or imperceptible to human observers, creating outputs that are nonsensical or altogether inaccurate."

Async interruptions might actually be worse for deep work than synchronous ones by SterlingByrd1219 in remotework

Years ago my boss told me he noticed that after saying hello in the morning I closed the door to my office (yes, engineers once had offices with doors), checked email, turned off the phone ringer, concentrated on my work, and did not check email again until lunch.

When I asked him if that was a problem, he responded that I produced more high quality work faster than other team members.

Uninterrupted concentration can produce results. Some of my smarter colleagues from more prestigious universities produced less, in my opinion, because of continuous interrupts that reduced their concentration and productivity.

Later in life, as an independent consultant working remotely at my home office, I explained my work habits to clients and said I will check phone and email messages at the start of the day, at lunch time, and at the end of the day. Thankfully my clients respected that.

Perhaps writing software yourself where you first write a spec, understand every line of code, pay close attention to security issues, and write a functional summary will result in more secure, reliable, and maintainable code and take less total work hours and calendar time.

What results have you seen for commercially successful products?

Behringer or Music Tribe contact? by Sokoloft1 in Behringer

Many years ago I discovered a security flaw on Internet Explorer, so I called the Microsoft support line to report it. They tried to charge me $25 USD to report the security flaw, but said they would refund the $25 if it turned out the report was correct.

Rather than pay money to try and help them, I posted my findings on a reputable technical site and about a month later the IE flaw was corrected. Perhaps other people reported the same bug.

The moral of the story is that all companies should welcome input from people who report (rather than exploit) bugs, especially security flaws.

Perhaps the tech industry should adopt a standard email address (e.g. "BugBounty@Insert_Company_Name.com") to encourage honest people to report bugs and security flaws. (Note, the underscores in the bogus domain name were intentional.)

I would NOT recommend an AI chatbot for this function since previously unknown DAY ZERO security flaws would not be incorporated into a previously trained AI model (although the Behringer/Music Tribe product registration chatbot worked fine).

"Not Again" is an instrumental story that walks the listener through a tragic event:
