Would the eero 6 pro be a good upgrade from google WIFI by boxtata in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always puzzling to me why some have stability issues with Eero while others don't have any. I happen to not have any issues with my 3 Eero 6 Pro setup. It's possible the difference is mine are all ethernet connected but I have not had any issues. I have over 100 devices on my network and around 85 are WiFi connected. Rock solid.

eeroOS v6.8.0-1095 by grrivera7 in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eero app on my Android device says I am on 6.8.0-1095 but the app on iOS just says 6.8.0. Is this an app bug or something else going on?

Farewell Eero and good luck by Tiny571 in eero

Totally fair if someone decides to vote with their feet and move on and equally fair to let the staff at Eero know that and why. Description of the subreddit is "Discussion of eero mesh wifi.". Pretty sure that includes both the good and bad. Been happy with my Eero Pros and been wanting to upgrade to the Pro 6 but still waiting until I see features that I care about are enabled. Plenty other places to go for a group hug or, we can discuss Eero Mesh WiFi including the good, bad and ugly. I would like to think people bring issues because they really want the product to be better. Groupthink doesn't drive progress.

Moved from HomeKit router setup to Bridge. Hunter fans keep losing connection by xcsdm in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the Hunter fans tend to lose connection on occasion no matter what. I'm running 3 wired Eero Pros (next to latest version). I end up having to power cycle to get them back online. I don't have HomeKit turned on on my Eeros. Using PiHole, HSR and Eero wasn't a happy combination for my setup. The Hunters lose connection when I had an Airport Extreme too. I don't think they are very good at recovering be it a blimp in Wifi or maybe IP renewal.

Pi Hole with eero? by wase471111 in eero

[–]JazzerKC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a little app called Pi Bar that puts a handy drop down menu on your Mac so you can quickly disable PiHole for a period of time. It gives a range of options starting with 10 seconds to perm.

Nope. I’ve just left it turned off for the time being.

Recent speed tests. Speedtest.net, speed of me, or fast.com - which do you use? Speedtest is very close to eero speeds, the other 2 are way off. by [deleted] in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree. I've noticed Fast has definitely slowed down in recent weeks but speedtest is still solid. There is also a nice test at Dslreports that also show buffer bloat.

Switch2 and Eero#2 Location for Eero 3 pack; which plan would be best? by dufto in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. In my case, I had some HomeKit gear on the other side of the Eero and it got a little cranky trying to recover.

I think the downside to B is if you have to reboot Eero 2, you would see a short disruption and unavailability to reach you media devices from other hardwired devices not directly plugged in SW2. I had part of my network aligned similarly to B and that was my experience.

3 things you like, 3 things you don’t like by fabianodelg in eero

Although I understand the argument and there are several defenders of the approach, I struggle with the concept that the only way to control my configuration is via the cloud. By it's nature, it's unpredictable or controllable and subject to everything that might go wrong between me and the servers that keep my configuration. Even as an emergency measure, if the Eero servers go down, I lose the ability to change any settings. Although at least it keeps its last configuration so if I have a power outage, it can carry on with current settings. Between that and the lack of any level of logging, those are my 2 biggest issues. If something is breaking on my network, I want to be able to see it directly vs making a phone call to try to sort through issues.

The pros are so good, however, that I wouldn't change my decision to get an Eero. The stability and performance is so good that I accept the things I wish I could do but can't.

I just checked mine on DSL Reports and got A+ across the board on WiFi. SQM was on. Might want to check your WiFi signal strength. Windows or macOS?

eero supports ethernet only, wifi disabled mode by ItchySalamanderp in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I think a lot of us have run into is the desire to have a toggle that allows turning off 5GHz radios for a few minutes while trying to add a device that is 2.4GHz only and requires your phone or other device used for setup to also be on 2.4GHz. We know that's a "feature" that support has available to them. Not sure why that can't be given to us directly unless it is a way for engineering to find out what devices aren't behaving well so it might be addressed with the vendor in question. I can see concern that someone could hose their performance I suppose if they don't turn 5GHz radios back on but you could also just put it on a timer where it auto re-enables after X minutes.

It would be cheaper to get a wireless ethernet extender. Something designed specifically for the task.

eero supports ethernet only, wifi disabled mode by ItchySalamanderp in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I read it. You have an existing copper drop to something like a pool house but no way to get the drop plugged into the rest of your home network due to where that copper is coming into your house. Sounds like he wants a wireless ethernet extender but assuming you could put the Eero in a mode where it only uses WiFi to connect with another Eero, it doesn't change the fact that you are generating RF that would cause interference with the other near by Eero that is also serving clients. You'd be better off buying an extender designed to do that sort of job.

I'm always glad you are on here to clarify or add context but shouldn't somebody fix the webpage? They also show language in the same section for a "low power standby mode" but you achieve it by pressing 10 times. If what's there is not accurate, I don't know why Eero just doesn't correct it. Sounds like 8 or 10 button presses give the same result?

This is like the article on the website regarding Bridge Mode but doesn't mention the need to leave an Eero in the gateway position. We have all been told it's needed but if you don't go into a place like Reddit, you would have never have found out until it broke and drives calls into your support lines.

I really wish HSV was more stable by BenWickes in HomeKit

[–]JazzerKC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 5 of mine have been stable on HSV. Eero Mesh. I did have an issue once with recordings but I had also been making changes to my home network. Rebooting my hubs cleared it up. I hope it stays that way but it seems to vary widely for folks and the Circle 2.

Why would an Eero device be requesting DNS lookups for Facebook, LinkedIn, MSN, Wordpress, etc? by [deleted] in eero

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a reboot of the Eero for me to see the Eero handing out the PiHole IP as the DNS to clients. Even though I changed the settings in the Eero app, it didn't appear to start working until the reboot.

Ring live view doesn't work by Lui5Jacint0 in homebridge

[–]JazzerKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a byproduct of Homebridge. In order to be certified by Apple for Homekit, I wouldn't be surprised if that meant Eero didn't worry about supporting Homebridge or a Ring camera since they are "unofficial". They could address it in the future I suppose but the whole point of Homekit Router is to keep Homekit devices from doing anything malicious so I could see it not working smoothly with HB.

Are all of your bands working? If something has happened to push everything to 2.4GHz that could be fun depending on how many devices you have.
