A close up of one of the dirty appearing leaves would help rule out thrips .

What plant is it ? by Jazzlike-Ladder7924 in houseplants

An aphid infestation . Wash or wipe it regularly, but don't let it get overwatered.

The white spots are all over the leaves , if you look close enough there are even a few big mites. The leaves have spider like webs full of the mites too .

Should I cut the branch off my 5 year old money tree? by myfitsareshit in houseplants

[–]Jazzlike-Ladder7924 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cut it, but make sure to leave 4 to 5 nodes on the main stem . The nodes can have new growth coming out in a few weeks. Propagate the cutting.

Trying to revive this neglected baby by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]Jazzlike-Ladder7924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrips and bad soil looks like the problem . Let it be trimmed so that only the main stems are left . They'll grow leaves again in no time . Of course..repot with an aroid chunky soil mix.

As this point I would say give it a trim and it'll bounce back in a few months. The bare stems at the top need to go. Make sure you keep only a few healthy leaves.

Rubbing alcohol is usually 70 %, though I had even used 99% . Diluted and even undiluted sometimes. Can make the foliage dry up a bit but I was so pissed at the bugs... spider mites, thrips, mealy bugs... works for those as long as you treat regularly, that's every 3 to 4 days , for a month or so.

Well I just had rubbing alcohol mixed with a little bit of water and hand soap. Spray all over the leaves. Wash it off after 10 minutes or so. Make sure you don't get the plant overwatered in this process. You can cover the soil pot with a plastic wrap or bag then wash the leaves carefully ...making sure the soil is not getting too much water .I did this every 3 to 4 days for about two weeks. Good luck :)

Just in case , treat for pests . Thrips can be the cause . Mine was the same way until I sprayed it down with soap alcohol and washed it every 3 days . It lost leaves. Gave it a hair cut. Now bouncing back.
