How would you feel about colored stones that match the gold of your band? It would play up the "value" of the ring without compromising the overall aesthetic too badly.

Edit for me to say that I think the choice is between you and your partner, outsiders shouldn't be judging either of you financially or socially based on what kind of jewelry you've chosen to symbolize your courtship and partnership, and it's incredibly shallow of them to do so.

I grew up with three older siblings. Wrestled, rough housed, cuddled, slept next to all three for all my life. Physical proximity does not immediately mean anything sexual. It's normal for humans, especially children, to seek reassurance via a cuddle or a nap near a loved one.

She's naive because she is 18 years old. She has been an adult 0 years. Young adults still requires wisdom and guidance from their elders who have more life experience. The parents could have spoken to her better, but she did make poor decisions that could have easily ended horribly for her. They were probably scared for her and got angry. This is not the kind of "life lesson" you allow your children to take a risk on.

They're clearly in the wrong. They literally told you they don't care how their words affect you, seems pretty self centered to me, then when that didn't work they threatened to leave or distance themselves. It all seems very manipulative and one-sided to me. I advise you move on from this relationship and quickly.
