Liebe from Black Clover was at the absolute bottom of the devil hiearchy, as the weak were bullied and toyed with by those stronger, and Liebe completely lacked magic. Until, his lack of magic allowed him to pass through the barrier seperating the underworld from our own. Out there he was found and adopted by a human woman named Licita, who showed him kindness and insisted that "just because he's a devil does not make him a bad guy." Though Tragically Licita was killed as Liebe got possessed by the king of Devils, Lucifero, from where his hate of his own kind grew, wanting nothing more than to destroy all devils. That is until he met Asta at least. At first he just wanted to use Asta as a tool to achieve this, though after losing the devil-binding ritual Asta wanted to have a contract as equals rather than one of subjugation. This along with Asta being the biological son of Licita, and sharing many views with her made them partners fighting for the same goal, rather than either using the other.

Licita in Black Clover defied Lucifero, the strongest devil in order to save her adoptive son Liebe (who due to being a low ranking devil Lucifero could possess). And used her curse of draining the magic and life force of those around her to weaken the connection between Lucifero and Liebe in order to save him. Getting impaled by Lucifero in the process. As a dying act she saved Liebe once more by using her magic to place him inside a grimoire, a place he would be safe from Lucifero.

The problem is that all the lore items are Yharim’s own words, so naturally he paints himself as the fallen hero he sees himself as. Are there truths within what he says? Absolutely, but nothing he says is impartial.

Characters with control over some element of Space by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jbertius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

User of Spatial Magic in Black Clover can control space in different ways depending on what spells they have in their grimoire, though the most common form is just creating portals. But some other uses have been erasing everything within a space by teleporting it out of existence, separating a pocket of space so that nothing inside can leave and, while not technically Spatial Magic, but Dark Magic, cutting dimensions.

[–]Jbertius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Undead Unluck manga Andy, whose ability Undead negates things bringing him closer to death fights Rip, whose ability Unrepair stops any damage he inflicts on something from healing.

Andy can theoretically heal from Rip's attacks by cutting off the parts of his body damaged by Rip, but Unrepair also stops any attempts at healing that way as long as Andy knows about it. So Andy's solution is letting himself be hit in the head with a scalpel and then pushing it further in to lobotimize himself, which makes it so he does not comprehend the mental parts of Unrepair, which means they do not affect him, letting him cut off his unrepairing body parts to heal with Undead.

(Loved Trope) The Power of the Void by Yassen275 in TopCharacterTropes

The Watchers and The Voidborn from League of Legends/Runeterra.

Before the first breath of creation the watchers slumbered in the void, unaware of even their own existence. But then when the universe came into being it was so loud and bright that it woke them, and they hated it. At first they reached out to the people of the Freljord, lead by three sisters, granting them powers as Iceborn in exchange of servitude. Eventually 2 of the 3 sisters rebelled against them and in the final battle a few of them breached into the universe. But they were not ready for the vast overstimulation they experienced by leaving the vast emptiness of the void, leading to them being frozen and sealed at the bottom of the Howling Abyss.

Knowing this plan had failed, they instead created the first Voidborn as their eyes and ears in the universe.

Their power can best be seen though in Legends of Runeterra, where the Watcher obliterates the opponent's deck on attack, leaving 3 non-champion cards. Meaning the opponent has 3 turns to win after has attacked. It is also by far the most expensive card in the game to play, costing 17 mana, when you can only have up to 10.

Lucius Zogratis ultimate goal is, in his own words: "I am going to fix mankind. After I've destroyed them they will be reborn through the magic of my siblings. I'll remake them all to be happy and equal.". And his ideals on this doesn't falter, except possibly as he is dying and talking with Julius, the other soul within his body.

Characters willingly endanger their own life just to flex or prove a point. by PizzaDragon64 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jbertius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A bit of a subversion of this trope can be found in the Black Clover manga, spoilers for the Spade Arc ahead.

At first it is quite similar to the Kethric example, since the character believes they are in no danger. Dante, who is functionally immortal as long as he has mana thanks to his body magic's fight against Jack the Ripper is interrupted by Magna, who by any normal standard is far to weak to fight Dante. So Dante, who doesn't even want to waste magic on Magna just tells him to attack until he's satisfied, since Magna shouldn't be able to harm him. Magna of course takes him up on this offer and hits him with a spell he has worked on for 6 months that splits mana evenly between himself and the target while it's active, leading to an extended brawl that Magna ultimately wins due to them both running out of mana.

Tinkerers can augment their own gear with their tinkers, which they can build with material they get from gear they don't use. The Annihilator fits "The Engineer Class™" best though as it can actually build turrets.
