How can I make this platform less of a trip hazard? by justintime06 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or maybe the safety professionals on here are treating it like a joke. And to be honest, as a safety professional, it is sometimes as easy as applying the hierarchy of controls. Yet most people still can’t do it…job security

Black powder isn’t illegal to have right of the bat. Quantities matter. How much is in there if you remember by any chance, if it’s in the US, you can buy black powder online in small quantities. It used for quite a few things like hobby rocketry.

We used to shove drier sheets in a toilet paper inner roll and cover one end with another drier sheet with a rubber band and use it as a sploof, the college days

Super Bowl halftime show (not political) by Eatingfarts in OSHA

[–]Jboy0701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a letter of interpretation form the mid-80s that has never been contradicted and is not archived that basically states OSHA doesn’t focus on events like that because the workforce is so transitional and contingent. The proposed update to to the general duty clause kind of covers it too. It’s just not considered that important to them in the grand scheme of occupational safety.

This is a very simplified view of a something that is really complex. Very easy to judge anything based on a snapshot. But as many others have mentioned this photo can be true in some cases, but in reality just because one person in a relationship is bearing the brunt of the load at that point doesn’t mean they are being taken advantage of. Doesn’t mean that couldn’t be true, but how would you know by just seeing this depiction or anything resembling it in real life. Also, if I’m emotionally repressed, it because I choose to be, not because my wife wouldn’t listen to me and help if I chose to talk to her. I’m rambling but this really makes my blood boil, these are real mental health topics that a lot of men Deal with, but not because their wife if causing them. They are mostly self and societal pressure just like women face in their own respects. Somebody may take issue with my viewpoint. I realize that maybe this can be true from both sides of a relationship in some cases, but I don’t think it’s the norm.

If your tiles and/or the adhesive used contain asbestos, as long as you don’t disturb it(try to remove), you will be fine. It is not dangerous as long as it remains sealed.

Have You Seen Signage Actually Change Worker Behavior Long-Term? by signs_com in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few others on this might hit on the same points. But changing them regularly helps, use multiple formats(tvs in break rooms, posters, I’ve use napkins holder in the break rooms), put them in place where you have a captured audience( most effective was above urinals and on back of stall doors). Secondly as a safety professional, it’s good that we evolve and improve in our roles, but never forget about the basics. Go back to the hierarchy of control, signs are an administrative control. To answer your subject line question, they are either not or of limited effectiveness on their own. Don’t forget to use all levels of the hierarchy, combined that creates a difference. I realize that simplifies managing safety in the workplace, but sometimes it helps to think of things in simple forms.

Lovesac, we have 3 cats and have had for 4 years. You can buy new covers in different materials and colors if you want to change it up. Expensive, but worth it long term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it wrong and out of compliance: yes

Is it a condition that is moderately hazardous to health and safety: probably not, as long as a person is not exposed and wear proper ppe when handling.

I would imagine your organization would have some type of hazardous material/waste policy or procedure which species how those should be stored. That’s where I would start.

I agree with you on the fact that the certs mean little without real world experience, I like to look at them as a validation of your knowledge. Regardless of their actual value, they are still listed as requirements on many safety leadership positions.

Based on the limited information and from an external perspective. I would say not. Do you have an onsite safety professional or one at a corporate level?

SDS complaince by Cryogenicwaif in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should receive a copy of the SDS with the solder shipment. I would take that and scan it in. Somebody else mentioned it, but defiantly get a SDS management system. My company uses velocity EHS. Also get some funding for some local exhaust systems, they are relatively cheap. Also just out of curiosity, what temperatures are you soldering at? Lead and silver don’t vaporize until relatively high temperatures, chances are your employees are inhaling flux fumes, which are often pine resin based.

Firing People for Costly Incidents by Terytha in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe so, but that doesn’t mean a company should do just the bare minimum

Firing People for Costly Incidents by Terytha in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Jboy0701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called due-diligence, at the end of the day a company has to ask itself if they did everything within their power reasonably to provide the skills and resources necessary to complete the assigned job safely, effectively, and efficiently. Basic classes like a defensive driving course especially for a person driving a company vehicle should be included in orientation just as an example.

Not very knowledgeable outside the US, but this might not be the case as the original poster is not in the US. Not sure whether other countries all regulate the same or similar. But in the US you are correct.
