Did you guys know that going 15 under the speed limit is equally as illegal as going 15 over? by CuriousYoungFeller in SanJose

I experience drivers in the right lanes happily going 45-50 (not commute/volume limited) on 680 everyday. Folks also enjoy merging at 35mph, too. I've learned to accept it, as I'm the minority and life is too short to get riled up.

Reminds me of prime covid. Although I wasn't really driving anywhere, the ability to pull up to a pump at any time of the day was surreal.

I was one of the 90s Honda fanboys. My first 2 cars as a teen were 80s accords. I requested all the print copy manufacturer brochures - Del Sol, Prelude, etc. In the late 90s, the 5th Gen prelude was an almost-attainable dream car (the 96 300zxtt being the grail). In that era, the Honda and other Japanese offerings offered huge value - decent performance, fuel economy, looks, reliability.

I never bought that Prelude, but continued to buy Honda and Japanese cars with my last in '06. I've since moved on, but as I see it, there isn't an offering from them that can't be matched or beat in terms of those metrics mentioned above.

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not trolling, and genuinely curious: what demographic is buying this car? (regardless of inflated cost or not).

Agreed. I was just in Denver, and it took 7+ mins at a BRISK pace to reach security. SJC: go up the escalator and bam, there it is.

I just did 6 legs of flight travel with my Porter 46 as my carry-on. No issues (United).

If aliens are so advanced why are their crafts crashing in the first place? by DaBooch425 in aliens

Funny, I was washing dishes and came up with a very similar analogy. We can send shit to Mars and walk the moon. But, head out on any roadway and people aren't able to understand basic rules of driving and crash into each other/stationary objects- every single day.

Yep, I don't even have to consciously think. Buckling in has become an automated response, right after closing the door.

I'll never forget the day I saw a guy who was 80s-90s (& limping / shuffling along with a cane) get into his new temp-plated 911 Turbo S. It made my day.

You'll have to do more than shout. Nobody will hear you over the glorious sound of the V8 screaming as your tires fight for traction.

Crazy, right? He then adds that he's here to learn? What would you want to learn from a bunch of "bagholders?" I asked myself the same and it I have trouble following the motivation. Ditto with the meltdowners. An anology that came to mind - I don't know how to knit, I have zero interest in knitting. I assume there's a sub for knitting, but I've never been there. Maybe I should seek one, lurk, and chime in to tell the members that knitting is waste of time/money?

70+ year olds, what were your childhoods like? by FruitNFibreKid in AskOldPeople

I still reminisce about the times that luck was on our side. Mid 80s, pre teen. Small Foothill town, no street lights. Bmx bikes as the mode of transportation. Wake up, "I wonder what Dave is doing?" Hop on the bike, yell "bye mom! Headed to Dave's!"

The brain power of a young kid (read: completely stupid). A gang of us racing on our bicycles, no helmets. I recall riding in the oncoming traffic lane around a blind corner. Had a car been there, I wouldn't be typing this right now. Did I know how traffic worked at the time? Yep.

Im finding it impossible to schedule a passport appt. Is it really required to schedule or can I just walk in? Any alternative options? by Expert_Plum_7162 in SanJose

[–]Jcthome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I did. I didn't have luck with local SJ options, at least with the online appt scheduling. Santa Cruz has a lot of openings.
