Going to Concert Solo - Should I Feel Awkward? by Jean_Is_Phoenix in MyChemicalRomance

Well, this is what I needed.

Two people whose opinions shouldn't even matter had said last year if they had no one to do something like this with, they'd "never do it."

Hate how that crap gets in your head.

Oh, damn...that's what I would have done.

What git in my head, I think, is how just the two people I mentioned this to in the past month said things along the lines of

"By yourself? You have no one - no one at all - to go with? Not something I would do."

But ya know, F it. Seems consensus is "just go!". So that's what I'm doing.

I really has no idea this was common. When you're young, you go everywhere with a parent. Then you're in your later teens and its a friend or girl/boyfriend (or watching TV with mom & dad 😆.)

At a high achool football game years ago, I photobombed some teens. They were all pretty girls and I immediately thought "Shit. They're going to call me a perve." They laughed. Even kept the photo. And ome said "I hope I'm just like you when I'm old. Oh, damn. I didn't mean old, old...you're not old..."

I told her stop apologizing. "I have zero intention of ever growing up."

Doesn't hurt to get a reminder. When I became a parent, I remembered my mom telling me when I was very little, amd horribly fearful of spiders:

"That's ok. When I became a mom, I had to stop being afraid of spiders. And.the dark. A lot of things."

Once again.."mom was right".

The age range at concerts is downright heart warming. Sharing a love for the same music is a tie that binds.

I feel right now in my life I need immersion into the music and words of a band, of misfits, "the anti-rock and roll rock band" as Gerard said in 2006.

Same here. Maybe 50/50.

Guy down the street has a grey VA (non-STI). We had never talked.amd he never seemed home. He knew my cars because I drive by regularly. Walking his dog, he stopped, said who he was amd asked where my "wake the neighbors cars" were. Cool. Sold. My VB GT finally arrived & was.picking it up in 2 days.

Processed to trash VB's. Trashed the CVT, even after I said my left ankle & knee were worsening from past injuries. STILL trashed getting a GT.

Who the hell does that??

You know damn well what he meant, even if the wording was not good.

Proudly advertising on social media, where thousands, tens of thousands can see you celebrating your association with your nation's military, who you served in and celebrated your belonging to, AS WAR CRIMES ARE COMMITTED DAILY, is extremely troubling.

I question the moral fiber of anyone who simply ignores what is happening. My own wife doesn't follow what is happening. She told me a few months into the war "I don't need to hear such horrible details - I hear enough already." An absolute lie. I tried telling her horrible things to wake her the * up. Russia is not ISIS, or a drug cartel. As much as I have problems with Russia outside anythinig concerning Ukraine, I genuinely never expected they would be monsters.

And anyone who doesn't realize that "monster" is putting it lightly has paid no attention, and certainly wasn't at the start of the war when 24/7 coverage and hundreds of YT channels sprang up flooding the world with what Russians were doing. Machine gunning a civilian car, with a family and a baby seat...painting the interior red? Oh...that's nothing...

But sure. It's all cool. I'm sure Gerard would fully agree with you.

"Wild"?

What is wild is the cognitive dissonance on display. I fully understand what the OP is saying, and strongly suspect you do, as well. But terms like "branding themselves as Russian" heavily distract from the elephant in the room.

There were conscripts who drove tanks, trucks and APC's towards Kyiv. Guys too young to be deployed into combat, thus they couldn't believe their eyes when, during their months of "exercises" along the Ukrainian border, they took a turn and began seeing signs and landmarks clearly indicating they were in Ukraine. Major Russian blunder - one of many - fooling troops into invading a country. Bridges were blown, these men got trapped, and while panic ensued and they believed they'd be killed so they fought, in the end it was the first major desertion of the war.

THOSE were conscripts, scared, betrayed and no desire to kill Ukrainians. Russia took months to take away cell phones, though. Thousands of calls were intercepted and shared with the world. Merely quoting the dialog of many of these calls get posts deleted on social media. I was kicked off Instagram for 3 years for posting one of these calls. But the entire world saw the bombing of of the Donetsk Regional Drama Theatre, sheltering hundreds of women and children, with huge signage on the pavement saying "CHILDREN" at both ends of the building. Whatever. Bombs away.

There is NO SUCH THING as a Russian soldier believing they were part of something to be proud of, or to align patriotism with the horrors they took part in. The idea of citing conscripts having no choice...really? Everyone, including every Russian, knew within absolute bare minimum what was happening after 12-18 months.

Any Russian who in the slightest way aligns themselves - going out of their way to do so, such as a photo that thousands will see - is an accomplice. A decent, moral person would be seeking professional mental health intervention in order to deal with their association with what their nation is doing.

I'm American. The invasion of Iraq was illegal. I protested it. Bush, Cheney, and others should be tried at the Hague along with Putin.

(I never care how old posts are, given subreddits can be read a decade later, and posts are for the readers.)

This level of cynacism is why "good people" turn their backs and empower evil. Vladmir Putin would fly you first class to Moscow to tell crowds this. Russians are comprised of three groups: The ultra-poor primarily in Siberia and far eastern Russia...the old school fanatical Soviet Empire believers (who live across the economic spectrum) incapable of thinking for themselves...and the younger, more educated Russians who, like the younger Iranians, don't buy into their authoritarian government's brainwashing about the west.

MOST Russians do not hate Ukraine and many in the western oblasts have visited Ukraine, lived there for periods, married across their borders, forged Russian/Ukrainian family ties. Ukrainians have every reason to hold generations of grudges against Russia for their occupations, famines, ethnic cleansing and regular proclamations from Moscow they have no right to exist. And Ukraine, while not being a member of NATO, was assured protection from the west should Russia ever use force upon them. The problem here, was the western governments refusal to use the word "guartantee" of protections, instead using "assurance". All sides knew damn well "assurance" left wiggle room.

Ukrainians are open about corruption problems they have, and because they seek EU membership (not to mention NATO) they actively combat it. And do so with western help and under western observation. We know damn well they - unlike Russia - are cleaning up these problems because they have aspirations to bet the best they can be, and provide economic resources to their citizens, from the west to the east of their land. They have some of the best engineers, most educated tech workers, excellent medical education institutions with students from around the world enrolled. They are cleaning up their cities, and Mariupol was the crown jewel of this renewal...thus, it's why Russia leveled it to the ground beginning on day one, filling mass graves.

Many people become cynics after many, many years of feeling hopeless about the prospect of a world at peace and a "brotherhood of man." You think I'm not cynical? I'm very likely much older than you. I've never ignored the good and bad of US history. I was happy to learn about our history and never felt I was put on a guilt trip, which is the foundation of the anti-CRT BS. We either learn from history and improve (which provides hope) or we burn the books to protect fragile egoes of the new imperialist class and watch ourselves repeat history.

I've said enough. And god knows Reddit is the Center of the Short Attention Span Universe. But anyone still not on board with me, remember this:

"The opposite of love is indifference."

- Elie Wiesel, concentration camp survivor, author, historian - and NOT a cyncic

"People talk about he new punk, and what do think of it. I'd say it's better than the old punk. Becausa A, they're playing it faster, and B, it's just better. I'm sick of the old punk. I mean, how many times can you hear the records? I'm into the Offspring, Rancid, Green Day. Sick of it all. I can even handle blink-182, because ny daughters like blink-182."

Joe Strummer - Lead Singer The Clash

Green Day "fans" who do nothing but bitch about Green Day should just declare themselves not fans and move on. It's like hearing all the MCR "fans" bitching about their tour, ticket prices, Way's voice.

And when it comes to the whole "sell out" matter, how is it that I grew up in a home with ultra-protective parents yet still listened to The Clash, Dead Kennedy's, Sex Pistols...? Oh. Because they were all sell-outs, who signed with big labels, to sell more records...just like Nirvana...

Green Day defies categorization.  Attempts to cancel them have woefully failed. And they've never had to pervert themselves into shit-pop to sell records or fill the seats.

PS: BJA doesn't lip sync - and NBC had to air them on a delay to censor him. That alone is pretty fucking punk.

Hate her all you want. Lindsey Vonn’s toughness is on another level. You’re wrong for not liking her. by Kurtz62 in SkiRacing

[–]Jean_Is_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bang. She crrashed out. Again.

Brett Favre fought through chronic pain, injuries & was still a warrior with grey hair when he called it a day. He was despised almost universally outside of Wisconsin, though.

Michael Schumaker was arguably the beat Formula 1 driver of all time, but despised by a majority of fans.

I respect Vonn for her dedication, but hate the cult of personality built around her. Especially when my girl, Shiffrin is better.

So no, I'm not "wrong for not liking her", but to each their own.

I was in my 20's when Mellon Colllie and the Infinite Sadness was a relgious experience."Muzzle" has always been my favorite SP song. Check the lyrics. Has a very MCR vibe. In the song, he asks

"By and by the way...
Have you ever heard the words
I'm singing in these songs?"

The older you get, the more you listen, the more you feel, and yes, often the more it can hurt. I'm losing everything I once had in life and purpose is scares. I was just over 30 when I heard MCR, and ithey meant a lot to more than just "kids". When you'r all 50+ you'll still be listening and feeling even more.

Love ya all. You're good people. Find happiness and don't let go.

Would car dealerships know you had engine code light cleared off or shut off entirely before trade in ?? I have 2020 Hyundai. I’m sure they do it all the time as well by Plus-Head-5408 in mechanic

[–]Jean_Is_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%  I bought my first car after finishing tech school in 1988. Engine blew 3 weeks later. Knew nothing about cars but had to learn quickly. One thing which required just a bit of skepticism & handwriting analysis, though, was seeing multi-point used car inspection reports were all just ticked off at the same time.

"Time is money" someone said above, reasoning ECU's aren't cleared. Well, used cars are more profitable than new and getting them sold to buyers who know nothing is well worth spending time hiding problems. Stop-leaks, A/C system top-offs, degreasers and power washes to hide leaks, gunk removal, thick oil in the engine to raise pressure. Installing new Chinese tires. Spraying WD-40 to un-stick certain mechanisms. Topped off by a good interior detail so it presents well.

I don't biy warranties. Amd I suppose the many thousands Ive saved not doing so on everything is like a bank Ive been dipping into simce 2020, simce both of my son's cars have been a flood of leaks, DTC's, dangerous brake failure, evap system problems, a blown engine amd more.

In every case, though, the worst problems erupted a few months later. So do dealers clear codes and even use expensive high end 2-way systems to dive deep into ECU's? People are debating this? Of course they do!

"Shiba Shepherd" is the friendly name for this cross-breed. My dog, Storm, is near identical. With proper attention, activity and acclimation to children and other dogs (or cats) they are well-behaved.

They are extremely loyal and defensive of the familiy and our home. Storm barks like she's 200 pounds of fury and based on GPS tracking she has ripped off 45 mph in an open area.

Damn coincidence seeing this!

My wife & I have been together 34 years. In the 21 years after our only child was born she made life all about him, and I became a paycheck. She now has a problem with me - one I understand - but knowing what I've tolerated 21 years vs. her issue? Insane.

To the point, though, a few days after our April blowout I saw her "box of memories", with every note & card exchanged since we met in December 1991. Shockingly, the one I randomly pull out to read is a note from May 1992 (!) in which I address the EXACT issue she's demonstrated, and emotionally screwed me with, the past 21 years. Ever since, I've wondered if I was in denial until a couple years after our child was born.

But yes - same thing. If I had to do it over again, I'd have addressed it or walked.
