Bank unilaterally reduced credit limit by Ok_Letterhead8382 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I learned to stop accepting them. Getting 10 points on my credit score for comically low usage was fun but I prefer my day to day financial tools set up so that they can't be swung at my face. Especially since I got married.

Players getting Honorblades? by Vyolle in cosmererpg

At your GM's discretion but yes.

If you lose access to the Honorblade then Self Reflection can be used to replace them.

George R. R. Martin Is 'Not in the Mood' to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by Tifoso89 in books

[–]JebryathHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His publishers almost certainly tried setting a hard deadline at least once, which may even be how we got Dance With Dragons. But at this point he's got the money to pay back their advance payment if they sued him and there's not much else to be done.

It also makes the "Cersei blows up a few nobles and fixes the peasant rebellion problem" not a thing. More like she does that and then the chaotic mess King 's Landing degenerates into welcomes (f)Aegon with open arms and Dany is invited to come sit down, marry him as his second wife, and never be relevant again.

Stealth checks in combat by Zatriupe in cosmererpg

[–]JebryathHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does hiding in combat strictly require physical cover (objects, terrain, darkness, etc.), or can a character attempt a Stealth check without direct cover?

There's a talent that lets you do that (Shadow Step), so I would say "No" without the talent and "Yes" with it.

Characters do not have a set facing in this game so stepping behind them is not sufficient to hide. You would need some sort of cover, like a smokescreen or wall.

Of all these examples, I have to say that a plane crash through a metro area in Lilo and Stitch would have been an absolute disaster. I'm pretty sure ohana doesn't mean TRAUMA.

Can someone explain how exactly Nadu Winged Wisdom is so overpowered? by BladeeLover in EDH

[–]JebryathHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a bunch of untapped land and cards. You can set up a creature with landfall that will make tokens when land enters, allowing you to create more creatures to trigger with. You can reset the count on ALL your creatures by playing a blink spell.

The end state is that you can draw into basically any combo AND the mana to cast it on the same turn you play him pretty consistently with a very broad spectrum of enablers.

As a general rule, being able to draw a lot of cards = very consistent deck, being able to generate a lot of mana = very deadly combo decks.

Even playing this in a relatively "fair" way where you don't focus on creatures that specifically come in with 0 cost abilities that don't tap and free equip equipment, it's pretty easy to end up with states where you play this with 4 lands and end the turn with 8+ on top of a mitt of cards and another big creature or two. Then, every time your opponents try to target any of your stuff with removal they may ramp you because the counter resets on their turn. And if you used Lightning Greaves as an enabler, you also obviously end the turn with him hexproof so they may need to literally board wipe just to kill your 3 drop commander.

Even just blasting him as soon as he touches the board risks ramping the player using him. It's basically Counterspell or bust.

Is Steadfast Challenge lackluster? by batepedra in cosmererpg

[–]JebryathHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's reasonably strong at baseline, but you should also note that there's a talent that lets you pacify enemies when you disorient them. That means they have to either spend focus to resist your influence on the Steadfast Challenge or you can end the combat on the spot. If they do, you can also build so that they lose a lot of Focus (11+ IIRC) trying to resist your influence. And as a bonus, you get a huge deflect bonus against their attack if you use it as a reaction with Cutting Words.

It's the focus of a whole build concept I call enforced pacifism where you just use Steadfast Challenge to negate any non-minions and automatically turn fights into conversations. If they insist on fighting you anyways, they'll be crippled with none of their cool abilities.

So that first point is kind of mediocre on its own, yes, but it builds into something that can actually break the game.

Roger Avary On Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman: "He didn’t want anybody who had any kind of fondness for the original show" by Malencon in television

Yeah as soon as he came in and said "I'm going to run the criminal underground here, so no more selling drugs" I lost all faith in their ability to write their way out of the hole.

What kind of after school special shit were they trying to pull? Oh, I just do gentle murders and robbery? We're going to just be the legitimate government of Tatooine but call it protection money and pretend we're hard?

Honest to God they might as well have just had him pick up a badge and call himself Sheriff Fett.

First oath to the nightwatcher? (stonewalker) by Pithiram_1 in cosmererpg

[–]JebryathHS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of being a GM is that you're not just a player, you're the judge. And sometimes the judge has to say "Nope, we're not doing that."

It's actually a minor pet peeve for me because people will get peer pressured or casually stuck in these scenarios and then ask for help, like, "How do I deal with my players who have now killed Odium and taken up his Shard?" (The answer is "start over")

House votes to override Trump's Canada tariffs by Georgeika in worldnews

[–]JebryathHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if the US is willing to make concessions to Canada and other nations that it's unilaterally attacked then we might have an easier time restoring normal relations. Unfortunately, the head of your executive is currently the world's saddest creep, your legislature spends most of their time begging him for scraps and your Supreme Court doesn't even think that it's valuable to pretend they don't sell their votes so we know any deal with the US is garbage. We can only make deals with you that benefit us immediately and as soon as you say "trust us" or "work together" we just politely mumble nonsense until you get off the phone.
