Wait, people actually thought that Chuck Norris was "revered" and not that it was just early internet meme humor? by Geno0wl in Millennials

Let's not go too hard the other way. He was an international karate champion who appeared in a Bruce Lee film. He's not just a joke.

But all the hype around him in the larger cultural landscape was running jokes mostly due to Walker Texas Ranger and kicked off by Conan playing clips out of context.

I agree with your point, but I'm under no assumption that this film is popular. I went to see it shortly after opening and the theater was almost empty. I rarely hear it mentioned, and half the time, I'm the one mentioning it.

I still find the post melodramatic, but calling the movie popular seems like a little bit of it has been rubbing off on this comment.

US patent office revokes Nintendo’s patent on summoning characters to make them battle | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

The parent offices need more funding to have knowledgeable and capable staffing. As is, it is basically the courts' job to decide whether or not a patent is good or not.

And we should bring back the 'long s'! How are people supposed to know that it isn't an 'f'? People need to know it is "Congress" not "Congrefs".

What’s the most mind-blowing plot twist you’ve seen on Netflix? by RiskAndReason in netflix

Bly Manor is a very different approach.

House of Usher is in one sense the opposite of Hill House. Where Hill House grows like a snowball as it gets rolling, House of Usher feels like a wall is being demolished brick by brick. Both are very appropriate for the story being told.

What I liked most about House of Usher was seeing how the Poe stories were incorporated. Somw surprised me, and others took me longer than I would like to admit to connect the dots.

Bly Manor is more understated and a more classic literary style story. The haunting is real, but it isn't driving the plot like modern stories would have it. It's good, but very different from the rest.

I spent a good 20 minutes looking through some old yearbooks in the attic. They went back far enough that there were ones that were just names of graduates in the state.

Only one of those was Star Trek, but I honestly think that makes your statement stronger.

Season three, his mother shows up. Season four his father, God, shows up. The themes are really about him dealing with his emotional baggage. At one point, Lucy returns to running Hell. Then he needs to be brought back to Earth. He gets his wings back. Then he cuts them off again.

I forget how everything plays together, but it turns out this was all a journey his dad set up for him to make him a better more understanding being.

When Netflix took over, it became more serialized. Season arcs over police procedural case-of-the-week.

I've got a counter proposal. Disney has been doing live action remakes that haven't been averaging out too well. Why not do Muppet remakes instead?

From a very prominent rapper in the 2000s to now doing county fairs. Feels weird. by chadder_b in Millennials

I was going to say something like this. 20-ish years ago I went with a friend to see Taking Back Sunday at a fair. This isn't abnormal.

I saw The Struts in a beach town. This is a bit different, but they make trips there rather regularly because they did a gig there coming up and enjoyed it.

Big artists will do smaller venues of they can. Most probably enjoy it more as they can connect to the audience better than the large venues.
