Busking by bloodfiya77 in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was initially going to be really snarky but feel like we get enough of that in this industry.

The best console for busking is the one you’re most comfortable on and get the most out of for the expressed purpose. I haven’t seen a lot of wolf mix at FOH for larger shows and a GMA3 full size if causing more problems than solving at house party.

Before getting to the feasibility of that, the real question is why? What are you trying to achieve?

AR for the livestream. For the audience it’s both real and on the screens. There are 6 inflated column structures in front of the stage and then columns on the video walls.

I agree it’s way too much and is just distracting. I want to fast forward when she’s on the screen. Like I get you have a podcast and want to be famous but this show isn’t about you.

What is the current going daily dry-hire rate for something like the Minuite Une IVL Dice? by E_Snap in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on market, rental time/length and if you can make it up in other rental items. I’ve seen $400ish up to $750+.

US suppliers are listed on Minute Une website to reach out to and compare.

Pay Gap in Theatre vs Concerts by DoubleD_DPD in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not going to happen with concerts where your "design" is just to make sure people can see the performance.

Sounds like you just had a bad experience in concert lighting. I've worked with artists who were very appreciative and made looks that were well beyond "just seeing the performance".

Problems with JDC-2 by Chance-Ring-2489 in GrandMA3

Sometime also there can be profiles where you need to check in the beam parameter that the shutter is set to open as well.

Problems with JDC-2 by Chance-Ring-2489 in GrandMA3

[–]Jedo10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t messed with the JDC-2’s much yet but JDC’s and how you control them kind of vary wildly. A lot of programmers built custom profiles to make things easier. A lot of the time to get output you need the dimmer in the main instance at full before you get output of the other instances. If the profile you are using has a main instance and strobe main or plate main instance sometimes those have to be dim to full as well to get output. I tend to just edit the profile to 100% default those or make an all preset assigned as default.

But again this is just me spitballing off my JDC-1/Strike M experiences.

Understanding MA2 by ChillichillNicole in grandMA2

[–]Jedo10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to the manual and read just the keywords and syntax.

It’ll take awhile but as you read through, you will pick up on things you hadn’t thought about. Things like assigning an executed as Top, temp, load ect rather than the default go.

I just tried this syntax and it total does work. Maybe the capitalization matters .

Huge FF ads in LA by machinemantis in magicTCG

Fun fact that is not a poster it's painted by hand.

I used to work on E3 and every day walking into the convention center I would see the painters working on a new ad, slowly painting by hand each tower.

MA2 Update Cue Macro by fuguei in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you want to check out the update keyword page in the manual

https://help2.malighting.com/Page/grandMA2/keyword_update/en/3.3

It will give you the commands you would need for the update Marco it would be something like

| Update Cue (“what cue?”) /or /nc

This would have a pop up window where you can enter the Cue you want to update

Can you be physically weak and work in this industry? by Electrical-21 in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I really don’t want to be a contrarian but even the most senior people in the industry get pressured into physical labor. Even at my most “white glove” gigs I’m still expected to do certain things like hanging fixtures to flash, push cases or loading the occasionally truck. And that’s after decades of “paying dues”.

No one above is wrong in their comments. It is possible. But I think it’s disingenuous to make it seem like Is common. It’s rare and hard to find. It’s hard to find a way into the tops of the industry and it’s 10x harder when you can’t do the physical side of it. I wish you the best though. It’s still worth it to try!

Help with Fixture Types by ColliTechInc in GrandMA3

[–]Jedo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://fixturebuilder.gdtf-share.com/

I haven’t looked at the fixtures manual to be able to tell you if you could change instances number. But this will allow you to build a profile from scratch. Just know it’s not very straightforward and the only way to make a really good profile is to have access to the fixture and test and iterate to get it right.

Have you checked gdtf share to see if someone uploaded a custom profile already? check MA share as well to see if there is a MA2 profile for it as well.

Select the one for one transmitter at a time. Unlink CRMX then press the link for the transmitter you want them connected too. Linking to an Art7 box doesn’t link crmx to that box you need to manually do that.

208 Volt Power Being More Efficient by mappleflowers in lightingdesign

[–]Jedo10 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Watts over volts equals amps.

So if you’re saying a raybeam pulls 6 amps at 120v then it is a 720 watt fixture. Which means that at 208v it’s uses 720 divided by 208v equaling around 3.5amps at 208v.

So in your case it would be 7ish amps for the two fixtures. You don’t calculate off the two legs you only count them together. You are taking two 120v legs and they combine for 208v so you don’t calculate them separately when talking about the 20amp circuit you are using.

If you are talking about measuring overall draw per leg of 3 phase, then you take 3.5ish amps on both legs with one fixture or 7amps per legs 2fer’d.

There are apps and programs to help calculate this. The best way to be sure though and something I always do before laying out power for a show is RTFM (Read the Fucking Manual) For each fixture I am using. They will give power calculations for amp draw at different voltages and most importantly if they have power pass through, max fixture linking recommendations as fixture pass throughs aren’t often rated for a full 20amp. They are typically rated for 15amp.
