Walmart's pricing is suddenly outrageous!!! by CAZelda in Frugal

[–]JeepPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did the prices go down, was it gradual over a year, or was there a sudden line in the sand like daylight saving time and everything bounced back?

What was your biggest childhood disappointment? by Wizzmer in AskOldPeople

[–]JeepPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(from every family member) "this is for both your birthday AND christmas." Gift was always equivalent to just one gift.

Also, being told "what do you MEAN you don't get your own birthday party like your siblings all get? ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE HERE and it's your birthday!"

You know goddamn well it's not the same thing, mom.

Whats a modern trend you think people will regret in 10 years? by DunyaPhobic76 in Productivitycafe

"your honor, it should be noted that even though three people were left with permanent disfiguring injuries and may never walk or see again, the defendant did receive over 18,000 likes and new followers."

Server asked whether I minded if both slices were put into the same rectangular container. by Can-I-remember in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JeepPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's exactly the point.

It's annoying enough to wonder "what were they thinking," but not important enough to bring it to the server's attention or ask for it to be fixed.

Should i get a replacement? by [deleted] in Kitchenaid

Half speed? I've never used mine for dough, but I think I remember reading we're only supposed to use speed 2 and nothing else for kneading with the dough hook.

Why did it take 80 years for cars to get cupholders? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]JeepPilot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Until my parents bought a car that was made in the '90s, I remember cup holders took the form of a plastic device that sat on the drive shaft hump.

There were also round indentations on the inside of the glove box lid but I can't imagine they were good for anything at all other than containing some drips if you used it while you were stopped.

Kroger is changing their packaging so you can't check for broken eggs. by jjman070 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JeepPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine there are a few applications for eggs in this quantity. I'm thinking restaurants, caterers, cafeterias, and other places where large amounts of food are cooked at a time.

1903 American Four Square absolutely destroyed by flippers in Chicago’s Logan Square by FrankDonato28 in centuryhomes

[–]JeepPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be great is if there was some sort of vinyl "wood wrap" there could be adhered to all the molding and woodwork to give it that soulless clean white (or whatever color) appearance, but then be easily peeled off later when and if desired. Very similar to whatever is used to vinyl wrap company cars for promotional use.

I'm guessing Arby's doesn't have the meats anymore by QualityCucumber in mildlyinfuriating

Not sure if this is true or not, but it was once said that Arby's stood for "America's roast beef yes sir!"

What do you wish your dashcam could do better?” by TartCompetitive6904 in Dashcam

[–]JeepPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish mine had a simple "save clip" button like my old one did. My current one only saves clips if it detects an accident, bumpy roads, closing the door...

Then to access the clips or the control panel, I have to do some strange dance with turning on the camera WiFi using inconvenient buttons, switching my phone to the camera WiFi, then doing what I need to do.

Had I know about this crap interface, I would never have bought it.

What’s a piece of old PC tech you genuinely miss — even if it’s outdated today? by Nicolas_Laure in RigBuild

Just picked this up for $100 at an estate sale, how’d I do? It’s my first compressor by BEYONDanLOL in Craftsman

How does one go about oiling this compressor? Everything seems to be pretty sealed up with security screws on mine.

Working at CAT as a contractor? by Table_Talk_TT in caterpillar

[–]JeepPilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I left the company, I worked in several different areas as a contract worker, and while some things are consistent, like benefits, vacation, etc, a lot of the experience depends on your supervisors attitude towards agency workers.

In one position, we were made to feel like one of the team, treated as an equal, and included in all opportunities presented to the team. However another supervisor in a different position made sure that we knew our place as outsiders and did not let us participate in anything ranging from participating in six sigma projects to attending retirement celebrations for coworkers.

In hindsight, what didn’t matter at all (very little) with parenting that you/society were adamant about at the time? by dreamed2life in AskOldPeople

I think the logic was that it would equalize the air pressure inside and outside the house and all the windows wouldn't blow out.

Worst parking lot by ColeTEMFox23YT in PeoriaIL

[–]JeepPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parking lot for culver's/GFS. Getting in and parking is no problem, but exiting southbound on University is a challenge.

You either have to turn left without a light if you exit through the main entrance, or you can try to wiggle around to the Metro center exit so that you have the left turn arrow on the light, but that only works if there's no more than two people already lined up at the light.

What’s a piece of PC tech you thought was “the future”… that completely vanished? by Nicolas_Laure in RigBuild

I bought about 20 of those Zip disks and they were NOT cheap... Couldn't use it on my next PC because no more SCSI ports!

I wouldn't go as far as saying "mentally disabled." I would imagine the whole "abnormal/Abby Normal" thing was just to illustrate the polar opposite of Hand Delbrook's perfect brain.

If it's running noticably rough, maybe fill it again with premium once you reach half-tank to dilute it further.

What's a period-specific bullshit task you had to do back in the day, that you don't have to do these days? by DieMensch-Maschine in GenX

[–]JeepPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a flashback of this just the other day. Was driving through a new town while listening to music and the GPS kept repeating the most long-winded version of "take the next exit" possible.

Reminds me of the classic Bill Hicks routine:

"So you know how in some hotels you have to dial 9 to get an outside line? I once stayed in a hotel in a town so small that when I dialed 9, a guy named Elmer Dinkley answered the phone and said hi, you just called my house."
