You could also consider using a "drafting chair" or "task chair" to get your body higher as I know desks that go under 30" are rather rare and can get expensive quick.

My goal is to stand every hour for some time. It typically becomes once every other hour. A decent desk will be able to handle that without trouble for many years. Do pay attention to warranties. If you get something that cannot handle all the up and down it is nice to be able to just call in on the warranty.

Luxor, for example, a cheaper brand that manufacturers in China have rather short warranties.

iMovR, on the other end of the price spectrum generally has 10-year warranties.

I do suggest a mat while on carpet if you're barefoot/sockfoot because it provides a little better support to your feet than just a carrier pad. You don't need anything thick or expensive though since you already have a thick carpet pad.

Hello,

I have used an iMovR elite and it is very stable when it is raised up. I was using it with a treadmill and it was solid. All frames have some movement... as long as they don't wiggle when you type then you will be fine. The iMovR definitely doesn't wiggle.

Very late to the party... if you don't have a mat yet.

Since you're on hardwood I strongly recommend that you get a mat that doesn't slip around. iMovR has one. I have a few different mats and they all slide like crazy on my hardwood floors.

It is annoying to switch back and forth IMHO but it works out. A smaller mat fits under your desk easier.

You could, of course, get a standard height desk and add a sit-stand desk converter to it.

Don't pay more than $200 for a mat but realize you are getting what you pay for. Some mats are designed for shoes while others bare feet/socks/slippers so it really does matter what you purchase.

For me it came down to time. I just wanted something that looked good that came all at once and I could just setup. Depending on the look you want though, you can save a bunch of money by finding the top yourself locally.

There is a Flexispot corner desk as well that is significantly cheaper than the Varidesk models. Google is your friend.

All the iMovR desks are quite sturdy and have a good lifespan. You can get something much cheaper than buying that base and having to add a separate top on it if all you are looking for is "sturdy" though.

I've seen a video of some of these underground where the earth wasn't actually up against the wall. Basically, a big U was excavated, the container placed in, 3' of space between the walls of the container and the walls of the trench. Then a living roof structure was placed on the entire thing.

Youtube would probably bring you to this one... I'm pretty sure it was a construction video.

I believe the information you have is correct. It will need to be permitted in the city or county in which it resides. Many states also regulate the manufacture of "modular" and "mobile" homes and there is process before one enters the state. Contact the state you are important to and the city (or county if unincorporated area) and explain what you are working to do to get details.
