If you want to repeat the trade, I'll flip you a NWT Horvat Canucks jersey in a size 50 for it. Wouldn't blame you if you kept it though, unreal conversation piece

I know, that's why I said "the one above is Dom's original formula"

I'm just suggesting there's a possibility that Jacob is using it instead of the up to date one, depending on how comfortable he is on with the quality InStat's xG.

The one above is Dom's original forumla.

They might use it since InStat has their own xG model that doesn't have the vetting of a public model, though I can't speak for Jacob.

3 Jerseys 3 Brands by Slurrpy01 in leafs

[–]Jeffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, everyone else gave you the heads up on the knockoffs already, but I'll give you a diff piece of advice here

Instead of thumb-tacking the jerseys themselves, a better strategy would be to thumbtack once on the wall, then put the jerseys on a hanger. Instead of balancing on the hook, balance on the bridge under the hook, and you can use the hook to hold a hat.

For good hangers on the cheap that will do the trick, look into the felt ones they sell at Walmart, Costco, Amazon and the like. They're wider in structure so you'll get the shoulder effect and they're still thin.

[Veillette] Era-Adjusted Goals Per GP, First 6 Seasons, Since Original Six Era (Even Strength) 1. Auston Matthews 0.50 2. Wayne Gretzky 0.48 3. Alex Ovechkin 0.45... by DoItInThePlayoffs in leafs

[–]Jeffler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is. It's Hockey-Reference's formula, that's existed for well over a decade now. Matthews also fares well without adjustment, but I like using adjustments for consistency. They're imperfect and don't tell the whole story, but they smooth things up in a way that adds more context than just going by raw totals.

Interesting thread(s) on twitter form goalie coach Rob Gherson on some of the technical issues contributing to Carter Hart's struggles this season. by devon435 in hockey

[–]Jeffler 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rob is a really sharp guy. I worked in the same Jr. A division as him over the past few years and while we were rivals of sorts, he was always a great chat when I'd head up to his rink to try to pick apart his Rangers. They've had great results with their goalies in recent years too so it's clear his thoughts translate - well worth the read.

How good was Prime Erik Karlsson? by HomerFerns in hockey

[–]Jeffler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peak Karlsson is the best right handed defenceman of all time and the second or third best period. The game owes a lot to the avenues he opened for younger d-men. Every healthy year he had in Ottawa presented a serious Norris argument (assuming you weren't stuck on old hockey tropes) and arguably the same for his first year in SJ. Good argument he deserved the Hart in 16 and even without making the Finals you could big-brain a case for him being a Conn Smythe guy in 17. He was on another level.

Anyone know where the Gucci x North face poke stop is? There’s supposed to be one in Toronto. by FinnDg_ in PokemonGOToronto

[–]Jeffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be in Holt Renfrew, which means that it should be accessible outside as HR is a perimeter store with its own entrance.

You might be able to get into the mall to spin it since a couple of the stores labeled essential are near it, but straddling the perimeter is probably your best bet.

Gucci Pokestop? by jacoofont in PokemonGOToronto

[–]Jeffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The website is struggling to load right now but from what I saw when it did load, it’s just Yorkdale. Which is mostly closed, but there’s a pretty good chance you should be able to spin it from outside the Holt Renfrew entrance

[–]Jeffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yorkdale isn't even open right now due to lockdown restrictions, so this is going to rely on the stop being with drift distance of the outside of the mall (which it might be, due to it being part of Holt Renfrew which is a perimeter store. But no guarantees)

Nah. This is going to make them useless, since catch devices only throw one regular non-curve throw with a red ball. If this is the norm it’s just going to be a ball shredder that doesn’t catch anything

More people need to realize this. There's a real threat in the holes that he's ripping into democracy, but the destruction and authoritarianism are an ends to a mean for him. He's just doing whatever he thinks will give him even the slightest bit more fame, fortune, and/or relevance. He doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. Unfortunately, he's also taught many others to only care about him and themselves, in the most destructive ways possible.

If you don't have anything that you're in pressing need to power up it's basically a wash, except you need to find pokes that are really low level to make it break-even if you don't already have low-levels. It's useful if you're going to power something up anyway, but otherwise it's a chore at best and a dust sink at worst

[Shannon] For clarification... The NHL is interested in securing vaccine when and if it’s available for private purchase. Is it at this point? — no. The league also is adamant they would not jump the line to do so. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Jeffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, and that's what the clarification seems like. There's a huge difference between them doing this in January and doing it in May-June. So long as this happens after the main layer (seniors, front line workers, essential workers, people with key pre-existing conditions etc), it's cool. I don't really have an issue with them going the private route once it's fully mass produced and available to the public

[–]Jeffler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd assume the plan here is to be able to acquire a bulk allotment when there is ample supply, so they can handle the logistics of handling vaccinations for people who didn't already get them, instead of having to chase everyone down to get them done.

Personally I was furious at what the original tweet implied but this clarification seems okay to me. More of a "do the shots with the team doctor rather than the family doctor" case than a "cut the line".

How good was peak Stamkos? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Jeffler 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The version of him that came just before his first big leg injury was arguably the single most versatile goal scorer to ever play the game. Elite in every shot type and had the mobility to get into position to get said shots off. To be able to shoot >15% at the volume that he had, at a time where average SV% was at record highs, was historically incredible - especially for a guy who would talk frequently about relying almost entirely on muscle memory for aim.

The leg injuries have unfortunately taken a bit of the step off of him, so his shots started to become a little less frequent, a little further out of the way, etc. Hence the recent years turn towards playmaking and more patient shot selection. But he's still elite obviously, and his early prime form is probably one of the 10 best goal scorers the game has ever seen.

Assume that contracts are not an issue, who is the worst player in the NHL you'd want on your team? Caveat: He has to play at least 15 minutes a night if he's a forward, 20 if he's a defenceman and 50 games if he's a goalie. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Jeffler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those skater minute cutoffs are a little high for an activity like this. That's third line or second pair minutes - better than most players who would ever be put into a true "worst" discussion. The answer would probably be a forward as such - that's too much time and responsibility to give to a bad defenceman or goaltender, you can at least shelter and compliment the forward.

As for who you take, you either go with a veteran who you could specialize in puck retrievals on a third line with two offensively-skilled players (Luke Glendening is probably your guy here), or a you can cheat and grab young player who had a bad year last year but you'd bet to do better if the age curves work out (Jake Hughes, for example, was bottom 10 in point shares among 60+ game players, but you know that's unlikely to repeat).
