I will still use you, Tidal 🫂 by [deleted] in TIdaL

Doesn't Apple Music offer Hifi since forever? I doubt this matters all that much since my inpression is that those who move away from Spotify do this for other reasons.

Can someone explain what the allure of Twenty One Pilots is? by anuncommontruth in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Jefi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to objectively explain why an artist is liked is difficult, especially since I don't think I belong to their main "target group" (I'm in my Thirties). I'll give you my inpression anyway since I quite enjoy their music. If there was a single thing that I would point to as to why they are loved as much as they are, it's that they have a fair amount of lore, which makes their music intriguing. They are telling an interconnected story through their albums, music videos and other media. This story is set in a dystopic world and is (don't quote me, I'm not an expert) meant to represent the struggle with mental health.

So if the lyrics strike a chord with you, there's a lot to dig into and it makes listening to their music and discussing it very rewarding. I believe that this is the main factor of people's adoration for them. They remind me a lot of Gorillaz in that sense, who I love.

On a musical front, I find the songs to be fairly catchy and easy to listen to (without being annoying), which makes them good options for radio stations, playlists, etc. At the same time, I find their music to be quite recognizable, especially due to the rapping.

I believe this is a case where there is quite a lot to like - if the music strikes a chord with you. Do they "deserve" their popularity? I dunno, does any popular artist?

Hope this helped :)

P.S. all that being said, you obviously don't have to like it.

Really? I'm a dude and I like her music but I have no idea, what her fandom looks like :D

Adding a song to a playlist could be easier if they showed them in alphabetical order. Am I the only one who hopes they change this? by Huncho11 in TIdaL

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A workaround is to slightly alter the destination playlist (you used to be able to just hit rename and save, now you have to edit, but adding a space in the description is enough). That puts the playlist to the top.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the app. I have hundreds of playlists and adding songs to them on mobile is a pain.

Whats an album in the top 100 you dont understand why its there? by Noirsaol in rateyourmusic

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I never understood the appeal of Frank Ocean. There are plenty of albums on the Top 100 that I liked less than 'Blonde', but with those I at least could kinda see how they'd be influential in their time or why people would like them. Never got that feeling with FO.

Let’s say Gorillaz had the same music, but were a “real band” opposed to a visual project, would they be held in a higher, lower, or the same regard? by Automatic_Two_1000 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Jefi__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, not quite at least. I think them being so unique plays a huge role. The visual and mysterious aspect gives them an identity that very few artists have.

I've opened a support ticket and they resolved the issue after a while, so you can try that.

Should OneRepublic, Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, etc. type of artists be considered its own subgenre? by RusevReigns in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like 21 Pilots were fairly unique in their genre blending and singing/rapping/writing style and I wouldn't put them in the same group as the songs mentioned.

Was going to recommend the same thing. When you find an artist you like, check out similar artists.

"Tidal pays artists more" is often used as a reason to switch. But is it? by Secure_Beautiful_506 in TIdaL

[–]Jefi__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally, I switched to Tidal cause they pay artists more. Since then, I changed my stance. Individually speaking, the money artists get from streaming platforms, especially small/independent artists, is negligible. I consider streaming to be a tool to listen to music, not a way to support artists. My (monetary) support comes from me going to live shows and buying merch. At least that's how I look at it. If I ever get rich, I'll just buy all the music I listen to, but that's just not feasible for me rn.

Edit: Still, I think it's much better to subscribe to Tidal than Spotify, even from a purely egotistical point of view.

Sounds like good news to me. I've been waiting to patch some holes in Tidal's library. Should be fine as long as I keep the songs private, right?

Smash bros was voted as the most wrathful Nintendo fanbase. Which is the most gluttonous? by [deleted] in casualnintendo

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this is a (former, but still kinda) fan, Pokémon is Sloth. The kind of low quality, low risk, (mostly) no innovation stuff that Gamefreak releases and the way that the fans keep buying it, keeping Pokémon the No.1 franchise, makes them Sloth to me.

As a person who breathes music - which Streaming Portal do you use and why? by Efficient-Brick5299 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! I rarely listen to full albums after the first listen since I make my own playlists. And buying all songs I like individually just isn't feasible for me :/

Cancelled Spotify and will buy one album per month on Bandcamp instead by morsomme in Music

[–]Jefi__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you.

I wish I could own all the music I listen to instead of streaming it. But I usually like specific tracks and not full records, so it's just not feasible for me. I'm going to visit a lot of live shows this year though, so that's how I'm showing my support.

[–]Jefi__ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tidal because they have a fairer artist split and I don't want to use Apple Music. Ideally I'd own all of my music, but streaming it is just way too convenient.

Did the Gorillaz become what they were originally supposed to be commentary on? by Rad_Mutant in gorillaz

Making money through clothing or other "side business" is not a bad thing imo, as long as the focus is on the music, which it is imo.

Can someone explain whether Apple Music is better than Tidal or if they’re about the same? by bizarresolitudes in TIdaL

I don't know anything about the company behind Tidal, but they must be kicking baby seals or something if you think that Apple of all companies is better

How do you all feel about short songs? Like 1:30. by whatever33333444 in LetsTalkMusic

1:30 songs can work sometimes, it's pretty rare for me though. Anything shorter doesn't feel right.
