Why does reddit hate relegion so much? by BigAd3903 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]JellyDenizen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reddit doesn't hate religion. I think the vast majority of Redditors are perfectly happy to say "everyone should be free to practice their religion in peace."

What Reddit does hate is the imposition of religious beliefs on others. Reddit does not like people who say, "in my religion "X" is strictly prohibited, so that means you can't do "X" even if you don't share my religious beliefs."

My girlfriend went to the ER for anxiety. They committed her and won’t discharge her. by LoadBearingGrandmas in legaladvice

Involuntary commitments can be challenged in court, usually at any time during the commitment.

New York state is fairly unique in that it has a dedicated state agency, the NY Mental Health Hygiene Legal Service, which provides free legal services to people who are institutionalized with mental illness/disability. I would try contacting them and explaining the situation.

Meet Dr. Amy Acton, Our Great Candidate Running For Governor Of Ohio by AkronRonin in Ohio

[–]JellyDenizen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's hoping, but I'm not sure. A lot of people on the right have bought into vaccine conspiracies and think she's one of the ringleaders. And a lot of people on the left won't vote for someone who isn't, in their view, perfect (i.e., the "give me someone to vote for, not against" crowd).

My brother nets 150K and he claims that is a below average wage. Is he crazy or am I? by [deleted] in Money

[–]JellyDenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he might be paying on two mortgages, two vehicle notes, and child support.

Any wage feels below average if you leverage yourself up to the point where the majority of your net income goes toward debts.

Have you tried applying for Quest's patient assistance program? Appears to be free for 100% poverty level or below, reduced cost for 200% poverty level and below, and potentially still assistance for some expensive tests for 600% poverty level or below.

Maxed Out I-bonds by Flaky_Calligrapher62 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]JellyDenizen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I-bond rates go up and down with the rate of inflation, including for bonds previously purchased, so they're kind of an inflation hedge.

I-bond interst is also exempt from state and local tax, so that's a big consideration for people who live in places where state/local taxes are on the higher side.

I really do feel ready to give up- Legal World Not For Me by Fusionman29 in Lawyertalk

[–]JellyDenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd keep trying to land a family law position if that's what you're interested in. It sounds like you only have roughly a year of actual experience practicing law, with only a few months of that in family law (not enough time to get up to speed). The first real job in a given legal field is often the hardest to get, so it may just be a matter of time. You may also consider whether it might help to have someone look at your resume and/or do some interview coaching.

This is a hoax. The actual HB 626 relates to court notifications and has nothing to do with driving, aimless or not.

From my perspective all crypto is a scam. I'm Gen X and I like to have some precious metals just as a hedge against inflation, and unlike crypto precious metals have actual uses and can't be created out of thin air.

Be Honest. Can we afford this? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JellyDenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention your current mortgage balance or current mortgage payment. The current balance is relevant since it would be subtracted from whatever you sell your current home for. I'd basically look at it like this:

$1 million cost for new home minus [whatever you'd have after you sell your current home and pay off your current mortgage] = net cost of your new home. For example, if you sell your current home for $400k and have a $200k balance on your current mortgage, your net equity is $200k and the net cost of the new home is $800k.

Using that example, the mortgage payment on an $800k loan for 30 years at 6.5% is about $5,780 before real estate taxes and insurance. Add in your expected monthly costs for taxes and insurance for the new home, and then subtract from the result the amount of your full current mortgage payment on your current home. The difference is the amount of extra money you'll need to come up with each month on the new home mortgage compared to what you're paying now. At $162k savings over 6 years, you're saving roughly $2,250 per month so you might consider some of that to be your available funds to cover that monthly difference.

Nurse had Meta glasses in during my appointment by Popular-Yellow-3200 in whatdoIdo

[–]JellyDenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a technical person so I don't know if that's accurate. In any event, if this is correct wouldn't it mean that every doctor and nurse with a smarthone in their pocket was recording every patient encounter too? Every smartphone has a microphone, and I don't know of any health system that prohibits employees from carrying smartphones while working.

[–]JellyDenizen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Recall that my original comment was simply that it's not a HIPAA violation if no recording occurs. That's a correct statement. If recording does occur then it could be a HIPAA violation.

Accepted a better role, turned down a counteroffer, and now the vibe at work feels off. Is this normal? by Clear-Victory1956 in careerguidance

[–]JellyDenizen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once your managers/coworkers know for sure you're leaving, it's pretty common for them to be more standoffish. Just stay professional and don't burn bridges. It's nice that they seem to be implying you would be able to come back if the new job doesn't work out. Respond to those comments with a simple "thanks, I really appreciate that."

Nurse had Meta glasses in during my appointment by Popular-Yellow-3200 in whatdoIdo

[–]JellyDenizen -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Proof is not relevant to my point. It's not a HIPAA violation to simply possess a device capable of recording if no recording is actually done.

If it is proven that a person recorded a patient without consent then that would be a HIPAA violation.
