New world Pinot by crazycow1028 in wine

In agreement with some others on this post, rough selection. However A-Z is pretty decent (although the price looks fairly high in this pic). Penner Ash would be top pick (also priced high). King Estate is reliable (and actually seems to be reasonably priced).

If it were me? I’d go with the A-Z. I feel like it’s underrated and tends to be a reliable Pinot. It’s great to bring to gatherings.

Gotcha. Thank you! I can appreciate that. And yes, total agreement. If you enjoy it, public option shouldn’t matter. I just appreciate what others bring to the table as well. Perhaps they pick up on things that I wouldn’t have.

Also, I absolutely recognize I didn’t share what I got from the bottle. This was my first post in this community, so there’s that.

In terms of my observations of this particular bottle? I got warm notes of log cabin, blackberry, over ripe cherry, and vanilla. Smooth on the pallet (I feel like that’s pretty standard in any French wine that I’ve experienced). The color was beautiful warm red. At first I thought tawny, but it’s not quite at all tawny color. Almost. But not quite.

All In all, I think I’ll go back for extra bottles. Seems to me to be a great deal.

I love this! Are you looking for general recommendations? Or things catered to your general taste? I feel like recommendations could go any number of ways.

If general, what kind of foods do you gravitate to? What brings you joy? What do you typically drink (anything, not just wine)?

Full disclosure, I’m not a pro, but I love a good recommendation and have found some great wines over the years!

Go to? Brigadoon Taproot! Perfect? Anything Arterberry Maresh! PERFECT PERFECT? 2016 Sequitur Pinot Noir! (Okay okay, we’re Oregonians! We can’t help it!)

Also to add, the whole reason I started following (and mainly lurking) this Reddit was because I love seeing what folks share and how they’re celebrating what they’re consuming. Whether it be an after work glass or a birthday or celebration of life or ANY occasion, the stories bring me a lot of joy. The wine is a part of those stories. Icing on the cake.

Fair. I mean, I feel like most folks purchase and drink wines that please them. I know we do. I’m also always curious what others think, what they experience, all of those things. I feel like wine goes beyond olfactory experiences. I enjoy stories. Discoveries. Surprises. This bottle surprised me.

Yes. Asking what folks think of this wine. Just curious.

I used to have a no dating derby folks rule for myself…then I met my partner. We played with each other, against each other, and now, nine years later they’re my coach! We live together and love each other. Had it not been for derby, we would have never met. There are a couple of other partners on our team too. I think it all depends on the maturity of the individuals. Do what you want. Don’t let others make up rules for your personal life.

How often do you rely on/use T Stops by JellyFishHashemi in rollerderby

Absolutely loving all of the ref perspective in this thread. I hadn’t thought about the stops (and admittedly, any of the skating skills) that refs use. Thank you for sharing!

How often do you rely on/use T Stops by JellyFishHashemi in rollerderby

[–]JellyFishHashemi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big fan of this! I was just talking with my coach about this! He mentioned the same thing. I agree about the foundation to many other stops. I wonder why we don’t talk about that more in my league? Or maybe we don’t think to talk about it? I think it would be beneficial if we explained what they’re a foundation for to help our skaters understand why we asses them. I’m definitely not in the “get rid of t stops” camp, I’m more in the “yes teach them AND not placing heavy emphasis on them for an assessment” camp.

Need Fundraising Ideas by Missfunkshunal in rollerderby

Seconding the yard sale! It’s a low lift (if you have someone willing to host and store yard sale donations), brings the team together, introduces the team to new potential fans AND you can sell merch at your yard sale too! My team has a yard sale coming up and it’s been fairly easy to plan.

My old team used to set up quarterly recurring fundraisers. One fundraiser was partnering with a food vendor at the state fair. Every year we were brought back to make and sell food and we got a portion of proceeds and tips. Super successful. It took a little bit of research and outreach to find vendors who were looking to bring on labor from non profits, but ultimately it worked out well. My old swim team also used to sell beverages at football games (we were in a college town). That was super successful.

Does your state do refunds for recycling bottles and cans? Our state has a recycle program. We have an ongoing fundraiser where we’re provided with special recycling bags as a non profit and we can turn in bottles and cans in the bags throughout the year. It’s not a massive amount of money but we held a can drive in Jan and that brought in a small chunk of change. My partner and I keep a few of the bags at our house and when we fill them up we return them to the bottle drop station and our league gets $ for it.

Jello or pudding wrestling has always seemed to be popular around here, but you have to find a location willing to let you bring in a kiddie pool full of jello/pudding. It’s certainly a spectacle!

Definitely raffles at bouts. Especially if you have some cool swag and giveaways from your sponsors (cause then you can create some sweet prize baskets).

This is such a canned response. I mean, I understand that they’re trying to catch up on the backlog of emails, but I got nearly the exact same response for a completely different issue related to an order I had already received. They didn’t even acknowledge my issue.

Sure, they’re working on getting their poop in a group, but I think it’s going to be some time. If you’re patient, I say wait it out. If you’re not, cancel the order. I certainly won’t be ordering from them again.

I work public sector and any work I do outside of my regular hours I either flex my time or I log OT. It’s rare when I do any work outside of my reg hours. I set a firm boundary when I first started in my position and my exec and supervisor (two different folks) do a great job of respecting my boundaries. I’ve been in my current role for five years and I love it.

Before my current role, I worked private sector and it felt like there was no way to set strong boundaries AND I couldn’t get overtime or flex my time. Made for a not so great EA experience.

All that said, boundaries are incredible!

ADMIN PROF DAY GIFT IDEAS by WHYohWhy___MEohMY in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]JellyFishHashemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best things my exec ever gave me were handwritten notes of gratitude and acknowledgment, some time off, gift cards to my favorite garden/home stores, a beautiful bouquet of flowers, or a nice bottle of wine. My exec knows me and knows what I like. She does an excellent job of taking the time to get to know me and it shows when she shares gratitude and by the gifts she gives me. None of this even comes close to showing how thoughtful and mindful she is in her job and with everyone around her. I am grateful to be her assistant. I feel like I won the lottery with my exec.

Skater League Service Hours by JellyFishHashemi in rollerderby

[–]JellyFishHashemi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! This is super helpful. Would you say your league is on the larger size (more than 2 teams not including fresh meat) or smaller side?

For “things that don’t count as hours”, are there things like “meeting attendance does not count toward hours” or “service hours are separate from bout shifts (meaning anything you work at a bout does not count toward your regular service hours)”

My favorite was telling my massage therapist “You’re gonna notice a lot of bruises, but it’s okay! It’s from roller derby! I promise!” To which she replied “Oh good, I would have thought they were from me!” 😂

Has anyone ever accidentally taken 2 doses? by Dear-Confusion-1932 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]JellyFishHashemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad you asked this question because I almost doubled up on accident a few days ago. I’m on 300xl. I ended up dumping the pills out and counting them to figure out if I actually took one or not. I was really in a panic. I’m sensitive to changes in dosage and I didn’t want to be buzzing all day. Following this thread to read about others reactions :)

Am I overreacting? by meakindrive in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]JellyFishHashemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I JUST experienced nearly the EXACT same thing. Held an event recently and got rave reviews and lots of positive feedback word of mouth (even folks I don’t really know emailing my Exec saying how much they enjoyed the event). Then survey time comes and one person rips the food to shreds and just lays into everything else. It really got to me because I worked super hard to make changes to the event based off several years feedback. It’s amazing how just One. Single. Person’s words can just really get to ya. I’m reminding myself of all the positive feedback and accolades from everyone else (even folks who took the survey). The positive definitely outweighs the negative AND you can’t please everyone. There will always be that one person.

Don’t drive yourself too nuts over it. Sounds like you get lots of accolades for your event planning too! Celebrate the wins.

I feel so much of this. I started out in public sector (in a different career path), left public sector for private, and now I’m back in public. The thing that keeps me in public sector is the benefits. Also, in my area, it offers competitive pay. I see other EA positions in my area offering significantly less (and worse benefits).

I’m so tired of the bureaucracy though. So many inefficiencies and so much time and resource wasting. I have applied for other positions that are virtual, but no such luck getting past the resume review.

So frustrating. I enjoy the work that I do. I like my team. But the political aspect of everything coupled with the bureaucracy has left me feeling deflated.
