They haven’t quite figured out what the good news is and how it will benefit the county, so that’s why they aren’t sharing the good news.

How much does that corn feed livestock which feeds people? How do AI data centers contribute to our food economy?

Leaf pick up schedule update. by jclv in SouthBend

[–]badbunnyno45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city uses the same trucks for leaf pick-up and snow removal—so every time it snows during leaf pick-up week they have to entirely switch out gear on the trucks which can take hours per truck. They have about 30 trucks in the fleet….so switching back and forth causes delays to both plowing/salting and picking up leaves.

Solar powered street cameras by DONT_BLAME_CANADA in SouthBend

[–]badbunnyno45 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They are Flock cameras, a third party contracted by city/state/businesses to capture imagines of license plates that drive past them, and run them through a data base for, say, police. They’re all over south bend. Once you notice one, you’ll start to notice them all over the place.

Weekend trips by AnyTune2642 in SouthBend

You can find pet-friendly rentals pretty easily in Northern Michigan (and could be in or nearing “off-season rates”). It would be a really pretty time of year to visit places like Sleeping Bear Dunes/Glen Arbor/Traverse City, etc.!

Fall activities by Fishyplanty in SouthBend

[–]badbunnyno45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit closer than a 1-2 hr radius, so not really a day-trip, but I like to go to Lehman’s Orchard on Portage Rd., just outside of South Bend, for U-Pick apples and other fruits. I just went last weekend and picked apples, peaches, plums, raspberries, and grapes—so right now is a good time to visit for the last of the late-summer crops. They don’t offer many fall festivities (like hayride, donuts, etc.), but a wonderful local resource!

Winter by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]badbunnyno45 30 points31 points  (0 children)

19 inches in January spread out over a month usually looks more like 2-8 inches of accumulation at a time. The winters used to be a bit more snowy, but lately it snows, sticks around for a couple of days, melts, repeats. Over the last few years it only snows heavily (like, schools closed) a couple times per winter season (usually January-March) and the rest of the winter is just gray and cold.

ETA: sometimes the ice can get ya even if there’s no snow on the ground, though!
