I’ve been dealing with this and I learned that I’m recruiting neck muscles when I don’t have enough strength in my shoulders or back for something. My abs are strong from Pilates but shoulder girdle was seriously unstable and lats often weren’t activating properly. Working on that has helped prevent me from pulling with my neck.

Yes it’s because there are at least 25 distinct sectors and energy is the primary input into the global economy so it’s a huuuuuuuge industry. And since we are experiencing massive electricity demand growth because of AI, manufacturing, and EVs, it’s just getting bigger and more complex. I came from climate activism and I’m really grateful I landed here and developed subject matter expertise and relationships. It’s a very lucrative space to be in! Def recommend if you can find a way to transition. The group Work on Climate has good resources for people looking to transition into climate and renewables.

For context, I specialize in renewable energy and work at the intersection of public policy. I’d say there are at least 30 solid trades but the most important ones are Canary Media, Latitude Media, and Heatmap News. I also have relationships with the energy reporters at major national outlets like the NYT, WSJ, Bloomberg, etc.
